1 NAOTA Newsletter November 2017 Friends, Flowers, and Fun in Houston- It was a happy time at the 16th NAOTA Conference Pictured above are members and husbands from the hosting chapter who surrounded Professor Nishi and his beautiful Rimpa arrangement at the conclusion of the demonstration. Please note all the happy smiles. Dear Members of NAOTA, Our 16th annual NAOTA Conference is now a memory and will be remembered as yet another NAO- TA happening following the tradition of excellence set by its predecessors. Thanks are extended to our teacher, Professor Akihiro Nishi who marked his eighth visit to a NAOTA Conference; to Ingrid Lȕders, a Grand Master from our own ranks who served as Mr. Nishi s assistant; to the conference co-chairs Susan Flanagan and Sushila Mathew; to Russ Bowers and Tom Maney, members from Massachusetts who served at the demo as invaluable assistants - picking up the arrangements and placing them; to all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes; to our photographer Molly Rose, a friend of Sushila Mathew, who took the pictures gratis and, to all the attendees who made this conference a success. The news in this issue of the NAOTA NEWSLETTER is mainly about what happened in Houston. Below you will see an important announcement from Headquarters about our conferences. Soon you will be receiving news about the 17th gathering to be held in Victoria hosted by the Victoria Study Group October 29 November 2, Chair for this event is Lorian Roberts. Sincerely, E-Ling Lou President, NAOTA Policy from Ohara School Headquarters Re Conferences. Our volunteers were all incredible. There is also more than what is seen above. The private gardens of members and friends who opened their gardens and allowed NAOTA volunteers and Professor Nishi the privilege of cutting whatever was needed. One such person was LaVerl Daily who did this in honor of her mother. Mrs. Daily never asked for any recognition but we are showing a photo of Mrs. Daily and a picture of Professor Nishi hard at work in her garden LaVerl Daily We were saddened to learn that Mrs. Daily passed away on Saturday, November 4 at 9:21 p.m. She will be remembered by NAOTA as a great lady who gave graciously from her gardens. To the right is Professor Nishi cutting from Mrs. Daily s garden. Most of the demo materials were from Mrs. Daily s garden. Workshop attendees using flowers that were purchased for their use.
