1 March 2017 Newsletter FROM THE LIFESTYLE DESK Dear Cresswind Homeowners, Hard to imagine that March is already upon us! We had a very busy February with lots of fun events that happened. Thank you to Dennis Kraus for doing the Grilled Brick Chicken out on the patio what a fun day! We ve had three new families move into Cresswind in February and are looking forward to four more closings in March. Please welcome them to Cresswind! In March we have the Frogmore Stew Crew cooking for us, The Ron Gartner Show out in the Amphitheater, Healthy Cooking Demo, tour of the Dorchester County Archives & History Center and of course, the Kelly Tours Travel Club going to Savannah for St. Patrick s Day. The Ladies Lunch will be gathering again at the end of the month at St. Paul s Tearoom and of course we ll end the month with Happy Hour! On a personal note, I would like to thank each and every one of you for everything you ve done and continue to do for me every day. The warm reception you ve given me here at Cresswind is nothing short of overwhelming. Your kindness is beyond words and I couldn t be more grateful for all the kind words of support from everyone. For all of the new residents moving into Cresswind, I just have to say you ve moved into an exceptional neighborhood of generous and caring people. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I m very, very blessed to know you all. 2 March Book Drive All Month Long Do you have books you d like to give away or share? While we don t have a library space at the Clubhouse, your Cresswind neighbor Dennis Kraus have graciously offered to distribute your book donations to local organizations that accept them. Please feel free to drop off your books in the big box located in the Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. Frogmore Stew/Low Country Boil Saturday, March 4th 5:30pm Barney Duncan, Chuck LaCortiglia & Steve Williams will introduce a Southern tradition if you ve never had it before. Shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn all cooked together with seasonings. Dennis Kraus is making Dry Rub Ribs for all to enjoy and Marge Williams and Dale Duncan will be bringing desserts! It s going to be a great evening! Ron Gartner / Scotch, South & Rock N Roll Monday, March 6th 7:00pm Let the charismatic singer Ron Gartner bring you the music you grew up with, danced to and romanced to! You ll know every word and every drum beat. You ll want to sing along, snap your fingers, tap your toes and dance in your seat or the aisles! Cost is only $10/person for this great show! Healthy Cooking Demo / Vegetarian Style Tuesday, March 7th 3:00pm Marshall Hill from Omaggio Catering will offer a delicious demo to help you eat for a more healthy you. This month is vegetarian style dishes, sure to please everyone s taste. Please RSVP to Sheila at sheila.hendrickson@associa.us or sign up at the Clubhouse by Friday, March 3rd. Dorchester County Archives & History Center Wednesday, March 8th 1:00pm / Carpoolers needed please! The Upper Dorchester County Historical society is preserving the past to share with the future. Kathy Larson is Co-Chairing this historical excursion to St. George. Immerse yourself in the history of Dorchester County and transport from the earliest humans to the innovations that put the area on the map. Cost is only $4/ 55+ and $5 for all others. 3 Kelly Tours Trip to Savannah Friday, March 17th 7:00am Kelly Tours will take you to Savannah in a luxury bus to enjoy the St. Patrick s Day Parade and festivities in style! VIP seating, a full buffet and adult beverages, if you like, to enjoy throughout the day! Bus will leave at 7:00am from Cresswind and return approximately around 7:00pm. This is going to be a great time for all that are going! Tracey Golden with Charleston Dermatology Monday, March 20th 2:00pm Looking for skin care tips and maybe what to look for? Come over to the Clubhouse and listen in on this very important topic, especially living in the south. CPR Training w/emt Wendy Lee from Dorchester County Tuesday, March 21st 9:00am This is a 4 hour instructional class on CPR training and techniques for adults and children. This is a FREE class for everyone in the community. She will be providing the CPR mannequins for everyone to use. Please join us in the gym for this very important class. Pasta Bar With Marshall Hill/Omagio Catering Friday, March 24th 6:00pm Marshall Hill from Omagio Catering will host a Pasta Bar featuring three different pastas, sauces, chicken, shrimp or sausage made to order! Movie Night Featuring The Secret Life of Bees Sunday, March 26th 7:00pm Set in South Carolina in 1964, this is the tale of Lily Owens, a 14 year old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother s past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping. Popcorn is on the house!
4 Ladies Lunch at the St. Paul Tearoom Monday, March 27th 11:30am Welcome spring at St. Paul s Tearoom in Summerville. The tearoom serves soups, salads and sandwiches but they are famous for their tomato pie! Lunch ends with homemade desserts. Game Night Mondays 7:00pm Have a favorite game you like to play with your Cresswind friends and neighbors? Bring it over to the Clubhouse on Monday evenings and laugh and play the night away! Sequence seems to be the favorite so far, so stop on over and enjoy the camaraderie! Pickle Ball Club Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00pm Please join your Cresswind friends and neighbors at the Pickle Ball Courts to learn how to improve your skills. Never played before? They ll be happy to teach you how to play this fast paced paddle ball game. American Mahjong Wednesdays 2:00pm Come over to the Clubhouse and join your Cresswind and Ponds friends and neighbors for the American version of Mahjong, originally an ancient game of Chinese tiles!
5 Zumba with fitness instructor & personal trainer Angela Jackson Mondays 10:00am starting March 20th Person Trainer Angela Jackson will be instructing our Zumba/dance classes starting March 20th at 10:00am. She s very well qualified and is really looking forward to meeting all of you! Class is only $5/person. Craft Night/Poker Night Wednesdays 7:00pm Fun for all on Wednesday evenings! Have a craft project you d like to share or join in a game of poker? The Clubhouse has it going on! Bocce Ball Club Thursdays 10:30am Please join your Cresswind friends and neighbors on Thursday mornings at 10:30am for a game of Bocce, the Italian version of outdoor bowling. It s a great morning activity of fun and laughter! Yoga with YMCA instructor Jen Michael Tuesdays 9:00am & Thursdays 2:30pm Jen is a wonderful teacher. She brings diversity to her class so whatever level you re at, you ll fit right in. Try Chair Yoga the first Tuesday of every month and a more gentle Yoga on Thursdays. Circuit Training with YMCA instructor Ann Shahid Fridays 10:00am Go at your own pace in this low impact Circuit Training class similar to the Silver Sneakers Program. This invigorating class is held in the Aerobics room and does not involve the use fitness of the machines. UNLIMITED fitness classes at the introductory price of $30 per month per person!
