2 PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Poof, and just like that we are at the end of the school year! Time flies when you are having fun! We have certainly lived our mission statement and motto this year! With everyone s help and commitment, we are AWESOME! I hope this will continue for our Battle of the Houses for all grade levels on May 25 th. This event is full of excitement with a Color Run, obstacle courses, dance party, cookout, carnival games, the Oscars Award Ceremony and a huge slide! I am encouraging parents to come out and be a part of this nearly all-day event. If you are interested, please let your teacher know so that we can plan to have enough food available. The end of this school year marks the final days for our 5 th grade students, some of which have been part of the Osceola family since Kindergarten. This may be challenging for them to leave their school home and move on to uncharted waters, but rest assured they are prepared for their journey. Our 5 th grade students will be set apart from the rest of the crowd because of their ability to communicate effectively, standard of conduct, academic achievement and always showing that they are not there to be average; they are their to be AWESOME! Finally, I have to say thank you for everyone that supports our school, from parents to teachers, students to staff, business partners to all our volunteers that have racked up hundreds of hours of service and lastly to my family that supports me in ways that allow me to be my best for Osceola elementary! What a year it has been! I appreciate all of you for making Osceola AWESOME! Keep being AWESOME! Sincerely, Kevin Flassig MESSAGE FROM YOUR TOA Can you believe this school year is ending? We have had a wonderful school year filled with many awesome memories. From classroom celebrations, field trips and the Oscars, we have had a tremendous school year! We could not have these celebrations and activities if it wasn t for our students, staff, faculty, parents and business partners. Our community and parent support help make Osceola Awesome! During the summer, please continue to have your child read and apply skills they learned this school year. The school year was fantastic, and I cannot wait to see what the school year holds! Have a safe, relaxing and fun summer Osceola Families! Sincerely, Mrs. Amy Richardson

4 Keeping Up with Kindergarten The Kindergarten students have been getting ready for first grade. We are reading and writing! In reading we have been learning main topic, key details and making connections. In Math we have learned to make shapes using manipulatives. We practice addition and subtraction to ten every day. In Science we have planted seeds to grow into flowers. We are now watching the life cycle of a butterfly. Our caterpillars are growing everyday by eating. Soon they will become Chrysalides. Then we will watch as they become butterflies. We had so much fun on our field trip to the Zoo. We saw monkeys, giraffe s, bears, snakes and a lot more. We went to our first concert Jack Hartman. Every one was dancing, singing and learning. Please visit Jack Hartman on u-tube. Mark your calendar: May 21st: Kindergarten water day 12:30-1:30 May 23rd: Animal report due. May 24th: Kindergarten ice cream day 1:00-1:30 May 25th: House party May 28th: No school May 29th: Kindergarten celebration (caps & gowns) 8:30 in the Café. FUN IN 1ST GRADE Spring has sprung in First Grade! We are continuing to work hard and prepare for second grade. We went on our first field trip. It was an exciting morning that started with the first school bus ride ever for many of us! When we arrived at Ormond Beach Elementary Jack Hartmann put on an AWESOME concert where we got to sing, move and learn! Be sure to subscribe to his YouTube channel to continue the singing, moving and learning at home. Learning With Our PEEPS was another fun filled day of learning. First graders got to spend the entire day learning with PEEPS (our friends) and using PEEPS (the yummy treats) in investigations. We got to read with our peeps and recommend books to our peeps. In Math we had a PEEP math scoot to practice our skills. In Science we compared PEEPS and real rabbits to review the characteristics and needs of living things. Since spring has sprung Spring Fever is in the air. We only have a few weeks left in first grade and we have a lot to accomplish in those few weeks. You can help your child have a successful end of the school year by making sure they come to school on time, helping them do their homework, checking their folder every night and discussing their classroom behavior. Leaving toys, cell phones and extra accessories at home is also greatly appreciated. When sending money in please put it in a sealed envelope or baggie. It is very important that you clearly mark it with your child s name, what the money is for and how much you are sending in. The teachers would again like to take a moment to thank the families for their help and support to make the year a success. If you have any questions or concerns please write us a note on your child's Weekly Sheet or contact us via REMIND.

5 SENSATIONAL SECOND GRADE It is hard to believe we are in the last few weeks of the year! We are reading fiction and nonfiction and continue to focus on the reading comprehension strategies we've learned this year. We've learned about opinion writing and are having fun writing our own opinions and trying to persuade the reader to agree with our opinion. In science we just began the Life Cycle unit, this is always a favorite! In math students are learning about arrays, getting ready for multiplication next year in third grade. We have had a very successful and productive year! We appreciate all of the support you have given your child throughout this year. TERRIFIC THIRD GRADE Third Grade has finished the FSA testing! Hooray! However, we still have a lot to teach to prepare them for fourth grade! Please make sure on school nights they are getting plenty of rest and come to school prepared to learn and work hard! We are also having many exciting events during the month of May. We will be going to Animal Kingdom on May 9th, a walking field trip to the gardens the following week and a fun field day House Battle! Thanks for all your support this year. Third Grade Teachers

6 FANTASTIC 4TH GRADE What an exciting school year we have had! It has flown by and we hope that our students have had some memorable moments with us in 4th grade this year! We would like to note that as the FSA state assessments are coming to an end, please talk with your child about the importance of finishing the school year off strong. The state assessments are small snapshots of just a couple days out of 180. They do so much learning that they should be very proud of and continue working hard to finish the final month of school as strong as possible. We do have some fun activities planned for the remaining weeks of school. Be on the lookout for information on our Math Creation Game coming soon. We will also be conducting an in-class social studies project. Students will be applying their reading comprehension skills into novel studies as well. There is a lot to look forward to in the next coming weeks. The fourth-grade teachers would like to take the time to thank all our wonderful parents for their continued support throughout the school year. As the African Proverb states: It takes a village to raise a child, with your help and dedication this school year, we feel strongly that we have prepared your children for 5th grade. 5th Grade is LEARNING! ELA- We are looking forward to reading Mystery in Ormond Beach by former student of Osceola, Marian Tomblin. Our culminating activity will be a walking tour of the book with the author. We can't wait! Social Studies: We continue to look at American History. We are also looking forward to finishing our DARE program. We learn how to make good decisions using the DARE Decision Making Model. Math: We will be reviewing our standards and preparing for 6th Grade. Learningfarm.com is something available to them all year. Science: We will be preparing for our trip to Kennedy Space Center in May. We will continue to review standards. Osceola Gives Back: We are getting ready for Osceola Gives Back. The winner gets an Ipad.
