DECEMBER 2016 Findlay City School Lines The Morrison Family in Honor of Ralph Shell donated brass instruments to be used by eight lucky high school students!!! The Winter Band Concert was their debut Broad Avenue Findlay, OH Please visit the Opportunities link at fcs.org to view the opportunities available in the community for you and your children. 2 Whittier classroom doors are ready for the holidays! The Leader in Me 7 habits are helping to decorate the trees. 2
The Donnell JAZZ performed at their annual Fall Concert at Donnell. The Band had a wonderful performance in front of a packed house! The Band played Titan Blues and Clinical Blues by local composer Paul Baransy as well as Walnut Creek a United States Army Band selection meant for Jazz Advocacy in Jazz Bands across the United States. The Donnell Symphonic Band performed at the Boys and Girls Basketball games on December 7 th & 8 th respectively. The Band had awesome performances and the 8 th grade won both games! The Band also enjoyed some time tailgating before the performance. 3
The SHOCKWAVE Drumline, Donnell Percussion Ensemble and SHOCKWAVE Regional A Drumline performed at the 4th Annual SHOCKWAVE Drumline & Colorguard Preview Show at Donnell Middle School. All three groups had great performances and the judges had great comments for all three. 4
Findlay Kiwanis were very excited to present checks to the Findlay Trojan Marching Band and Findlay High School Orchestra today. The annual peanut sales brought in $ Thank you Findlay Kiwanis for your generous donation! Junior Statesmen of America (JSA) helped fill the Alice buckets for each classroom and also participated in their annual Rake and Take project! The students raked 17 yards for donations only. This year s JSA Tanzania project is a medical camp where hundred of villagers can come for medical help. 5
Mrs. Durbin s Early Childhood Education class did a wonderful job helping with the Family Science night. December Rotary Students of the Month: Alley Spargo, Medical Technology II, Elissa Fought, Cosmetology II 6
Findlay High School Hockey Team helped Habitat for Humanity load and unload granite countertops. Without the help of these young men Habitat for Humanity would not have been able to accept the donation of granite countertops due to their weight. This was just an evening workout for these guys! Way to go FHS Hockey!!! The Donnell staff donated $1400 for Thanksgiving dinners to Donnell families in need this year. They delivered dinners, blankets, and gloves to 14 families impacting 50 kids! The staff will help those in need during this holiday season as well. Hats off to the Donnell staff for their generosity! 7
The picture to the left is the Blended Learning, Multiage Grouping and One-on-One assistance that is taking place at the Findlay Learning Center. This picture of the secondary level students exemplifies the efforts of the staff of the Findlay Learning Center to incorporate multiage group learning opportunities for our students. Here, Mrs. Beaston is providing a lesson on computing integers to an audience of students from grade level 6th through 9th. As the math teacher, she noticed that students across grade levels had common questions when working on their math content. Blendedlearning mini-lesson such as these allow students to work in groups, learn from the content expert and their teacher, while also working at their own pace. For more information regarding the Findlay Learning Center please call Jacobs Primary School enjoyed Bonding over Breakfast! Students, staff and parents enjoyed spending time together and having breakfast. 8

SYMPATHY Our thoughts are with the following employees who experienced the loss of a loved one: Robyn Badder s (Washington Preschool) mother-in-law passed away. Martin White s (Administration) mother-in-law passed away. Brenda Sampson s (FHS, food service) mother passed away. Jenn Stillings (Bigelow Hill) father passed away. Janice Panuto s ( Glenwood) nephew passed away. I Tip of the Month: Christmas Tree Safety Fresh trees are less likely to catch fire, so look for a tree with vibrant green needles that are hard to pluck and don t break easily from its branches. The tree shouldn t be shedding its needles readily. Always place your tree away from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, candles, heat vents or lights, and keep the tree base filled with water to avoid a dry out. Make sure all your indoor and outdoor Christmas lights have been tested in a lab by the UL or ETL/ ITSNA for safety, and throw out any damaged lights. Any lights you use outdoors must be labeled suitable for exterior placement, and be sure to plug them into a ground-fault circuit interrupter protected receptacle. Keep all your holiday candles away from your Christmas tree, surrounding furniture and décor. Bedtime means lights off! - Don t forget to turn your Christmas tree lights off each night. When your tree begins to drop its needles, it s time to say goodbye to your evergreen foliage until next year. So this year, follow our guidelines to avoid being another statistic in the National Fire Protection Association or United States Fire Administration report during the upcoming holiday season.
