3 To all players, coaches, managers, family members and friends. Winter is upon us and so to the end of another successful 2008/09 season. This season has given us even more reason to celebrate by taking out the Club Championship for the Hawkesbury District. This is a great credit to the club and all of its members. Once again the club was one of the largest clubs in the district with teams submitted in all 6 junior age groups and 5 senior grade teams. The club also continued its Milo In2CRICKET program to introduce young players to the game. This season our 11 s, 13 s and 14 s all made it through to the semi finals with the 11 s progressing through to the final. The 11 s played the game of their lives in the semis beating North Richmond Blue by 100 runs. Unfortunately the tables were reversed in the final and in a gallant effort went down fighting. This was an outstanding achievement considering they played short for most of the season. Our under 10 s, although they don t play finals, would have no doubt featured in a finals series and hopefully with some proposed changes to this age group next season, they will get their chance to win a title. Our U11 s finished 2 nd, U12 s finished 3 rd, U13 s finished 4 th, U14 s finished 4 th and the U16 s finished 5 th. The club would like to thank its coaching staff for this season. We have a great team whose efforts and dedication has been greatly appreciated by the players, parents and the committee. Our coaches for 2008/09 Under 10 s Kevin Kwok Under 11 s Greg Milner Under 12 s Mel Van der Reyden Under 13 s Mark Tynan Under 14 s Steve Winters Under 16 s Steve Magner On behalf of the club I would personally like to thank all of you for your time and efforts this season. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their hard work and effort throughout the season. To all the scorers, managers, parents, guardians, family, friends and especially the players, our sincere thanks for making this season an enjoyable and most triumphant one. The club is extremely proud that you have chosen Bligh Park as your club and we hope to see you all back next season. Regards David Dray President Bligh Park Cricket Club Inc.

Paine Award Most Catches Juniors: Adam Worsley 12 Catches Christopher Elvy 12 Catches Junior Achievement of the Year Award: Mark Adam U/10 Bowling Average Aggregate of 22 wickets at an average of 2.14 from 31 overs. Trophy Policy Bligh Park Cricket Club has for a number of years by policy shared the three major trophies among the top three recipients. The three major trophies are: Point Score Batting Average Bowling Average As often happens, a team has a certain special individual, who manages to achieve the best in all three categories. In recognition that cricket is a team sport, these trophies are shared, with no one person winning multiple of those awards. Simply the next best eligible player receives the specific reward. The policy exists for the Under 10 s through to and including the Under 14 s. The aggregate awards are omitted from this policy and are awarded to the actual winner. Bligh Park Cricket Club feels this is both fair to the team and to the award winners and emphasises BPCC s team philosophy. The qualification of the awards are in line with the HDCA award policy, but with a modified (lower) cutoff factor for runs scored or wickets taken: Applicable to all age-groups: Must have played in more than half of the matches Under 10 s: Batting: Greater than 100 runs scored Bowling: More than 8 wickets taken Under 11 s to Under 16 s Batting: Greater than 120 runs scored Bowling: More than 10 wickets * If no-one is eligible, then it is awarded in order of the highest wicket taker or scorer of runs.

7 UNDER 10 s SEASON TEAM REPORT We had a fantastic season this year in the U10s. We had fun, played some good cricket, and hopefully improved our cricket skills. We started the season with lots of very good wins. As the season progressed we lost some games but that is OK because U10s is about learning rather than winning. We tried to be more aggressive with our batting and our running between the wickets, and this inevitably meant we lost more wickets than earlier in the season. The bonus is that we have hopefully learnt when to attack and when to play defensively, and how to better decide when to run. Thanks for the support of parents all season, and for the effort and concentration of all the boys. It was a pleasure to coach this team. Good luck with your cricket in Mark Adam played some sensational cricket this season. His hard hitting batting, lightning fast bowling and superb fielding was a highlight of the year. Congratulations also to Mark for performing extremely well in the HDCA U10 Foster Shield representative team. Dylan Bevan was new to cricket this year. He tried his hardest all year and his effort led to some good improvement towards the end of the season. Well done Dylan. Jack Bevan was one of the biggest improvers this year. He was new to cricket but very quickly picked up both batting and bowling skills. Jack was always enthusiastic and obviously enjoyed his cricket. Jakson Cleverly is a great athlete and this shows through in his cricket. His fielding was a highlight and his batting and bowling will continue to improve as he further develops his cricket skills. Brayden Hall is already a classy cricketer. His batting skills are fantastic and he wasn t out once this season. Brayden s bowling is also very dangerous and his catching excellent. Congratulations also to Brayden for representing the HDCA in the U10 Foster Shield representative team. Billy Harkins showed some excellent skills in his first year of cricket. All batsmen found his left-arm spinners difficult to hit. He is an aggressive batsmen and his fielding was always enthusiastic. Mark Harkins s bowling was one of our team s most effective weapons. Mark is a wicket taker and gives away very few runs with his bowling. His batting improved throughout the year Blake Flood is a hard hitting batsman who hit some great 4s during the season. Blake s bowling was at times very dangerous and his fielding always excellent. Cameron Kwok enjoyed an excellent first cricket season. Cameron s batting and bowling skills are already very well developed as his batting and bowling stats show. Congratulations to Cameron for performing well whilst filling in for the HDCA U10 Foster Shield representative team. Reece Lipowicz was a very consistent performer with bat and ball. His spin bowling proved very difficult to handle for most opposition batsmen, and his batting was often very

8 impressive, including a season top score of 24. Congratulations to Reece for also playing in the Foster Shield team this year. Harry McClifty was always enthusiastic in the field and took some great catches. His batting improved throughout the year and his running between the wickets was always aggressive. Harry was also a regular wicket taker. Zac McClifty improved significantly during the year in batting, bowling and fielding. Zac was a regular wicket taker with his medium pace bowling. Shannon Thurling had an excellent first cricket season. Shannon is a good listener and learner and so he made huge improvements during the season. Shannon bowls with accuracy and will get more wickets as his speed increases. His batting technique is very good. Kevin Kwok - Coach

12 UNDER 11 s SEASON TEAM REPORT What can you say that already hasn t been said about and to our side? A huge thank you to all the parents. Special mentions must go to Tracy our scorer, as well as Dave Ryan and Dave Everingham who provided much help on the field by umpiring, and off the field by throwing balls to warm up the batters. Also thanks to Martin Sparks for helping to warm up the kids as well. The kids this year achieved all but greatness in making the grand final. The personal achievements of each player during the year were outstanding. Great play with the bat or ball every game allowed someone different to step up and create a piece of magic that would turn a game in our favour. When playing short each week you need more than luck to get through. We may have lost the grand final, but you know what they say, sometimes you have to lose one before you win one. So look out season 2009/10 - here we come! Finally, a special thanks to all the players for letting me coach the way I do. Greg Milner - Coach

21 UNDER 13 s SEASON TEAM REPORT This season was a rebuilding season for our team. Four of our key players stayed down in the under 12 s and we took on four guys who have not played competition cricket before. For the first half of the season we were frequently one, two, three and in our first game four players down. Under those circumstances the boy s effort to make the semi-finals was excellent. We only won 2 rounds during the season but lost twice by less than 10 runs to Pitt Town, had our second week rained out against Wilberforce (when we had scored 213), and lost to Schofields on run rate when they were seven wickets down and they batted a rain shortened 26 odd overs (we had scored 237). The boys beat the eventual premiers Glossodia convincingly. In the end we could have easily won 5 or 6 rounds and come second. I tried to rotate bowlers and batting orders to give everyone a go in the pressure situations. This policy contributed to us losing the games we did but it paid dividends in the second half of the season when every one of our 11 boys was able to do something special with bat, ball, or both. The boys were highly competitive in the semi-final when they lost an arm wrestle to Wilberforce by 17 runs. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented bunch of players. All the parents as well were supportive and understood what we were trying to achieve. Their collective attitude was a great factor in the team doing well as a unit. I have had kids in sport for the last ten years and I have never been associated with such a mature group of parents. We had without question the best manager in the district in Ian McGregor. His superb administration and scoring was significant in making the season such a success for the boys. Daniel stayed down from the under 14 s this season. This was an excellent move for both him and our team. All season he was one of our most consistent performers with the bat. He was rarely out for less than double figures and looked like he was untroubled by any of the opposition bowlers. He was prepared to do the hard work and had a lot of shots to deal with the bad ball. It was always a bit of a surprise when he got out. Daniel bowled well and was a particular asset in the out field where he was a reliable catcher and has an excellent arm. Even with his excellent season there is a lot of potential in him as a cricketer to explore. Michael was one of the boys to play his first season of competitive cricket. He showed he could be quite quick when bowling but it was with the bat that he showed the most potential. He likes to hit big but his area is straight midwicket on the lofted drive rather than slogging across the line. He was found out by the better bowlers from time to time but he showed in the semi-final he had greatly improved in defence and shot selection. He was 10 not out I think at the end and if he had had more batting partners he could have won the game for us. He was an excellent fielder, very quick across the ground, a good catcher and a great arm. You would have to say he exceeded expectations in his first season. If he wanted to continue in the game he has a lot of talent to explore. Chris really showed what he was capable of, I think. His innings against Wilberforce on a 40 degree day at University was extraordinary. He borrowed Mitchell s bat and showed not only his solid defence but he pulled and swept powerfully to dominate good bowling. He was playing very well in the semi-final and was threatening to bring the game home with Michael until he was unluckily out lbw. When bowling well he was accurate and hard to hit.

22 Where he shone in the field was point, short cover, and short mid on. His outstanding reflexes and hands in these positions not only saved runs but took many excellent catches. Beau is a big boy and a powerful hitter. He is a thoughtful young man who really worked on his game throughout the season. During the season he showed he could hit big shots. In the last two rounds and in the semi-final he proved he was a batsman, not just a hitter. What impressed me in the semi-final was how he was able to skilfully defend excellent fast bowling as well as hit boundaries. His partnership with Chris against Wilberforce was remarkable. He had the ability to hit good bowling straight and hard. He has barely scratched the surface of his ability as a cricket player and his first season was an extraordinary success. Matt was the premier bowler in our team and to mind the best fast bowler in the competition on his day. He was excellent and a reliable wicket taker all season. He bowled a beautiful line and got outswing consistently. He took some absolutely classic catches at first slip and elsewhere. I think his batting also progressed with some dominant displays. He played the spinners particularly well and showed an ability to work hard in the latter rounds and in the semi-final. His leadership in terms of attitude and example for the whole team as vice-captain was outstanding. He achieves all of this while being a national level horse rider! Mitch s bowling was an absolute revelation! He bowled fast, fizzing, leg spinners at a lower trajectory that really turned. He nearly single handedly won the rain shortened game against Schofields and caused trouble to all the batsmen we faced. He was keen to learn and always asking questions. His batting improved a great deal over the season. He showed very calm defence coupled with an ability to hit big! Against Wilbo in the second last round he didn t score much but he kept their best bowlers out for ten overs with no trouble whatsoever. Again, Mitchell has exceptional ability and can only become a more dangerous player as he gains more experience. Jacob s promise with the bat came to fruition this season. Opposition teams know all about him and know they have to get him out quickly or pay! When he comes out to bat the field is immediately spread! His power against Wilbo in the second last round was so exceptional the opposition were even applauding in admiration! With the ball he has been very consistent this season. He has bowled short balls that really intimidate the lesser players and yorkers that could get anyone out. He has easily the best arm in the age group and is fast and safe in the field. Rowan s appearances were intermittent to start with (due to his representative softball commitments). He made an immediate impact with the ball and was instrumental in our win over Glossodia. He bowls a quick, skiddy ball with a good outside off stump line and is very difficult to hit. He looked organized with the bat but didn t show what he was fully capable of until the semi-final when he top scored for our team with an exceptionally hard working knock. With his softball background he is an excellent fielder with a good arm. He can consider his first season of cricket a great success. Tully bowled really well this season. He consistently pitched the ball in the right areas and limited the scoring as well as bowling wicket taking balls. He and Mitch were a lethal combination when bowling together. He showed he was thinking all the time and working out new ways to get the batsmen out. He showed that when he plays straight and selects his shots wisely he is a top class batsman. His innings in our big score against Schofields was a highlight. He was highly effective when patrolling the covers or mid wicket. Even

23 though he performed well this season there is a lot of capability that can be drawn out of him in the future. Reece was a big factor in our run to the semis in the second half of the season. He showed a real commitment as a keeper to keep diving around to stop byes and easy runs for the opposition. This allowed our team to maintain control and make the opponents work hard for their runs. I could see in the semi-final that Reece had a sore finger. I gave him the opportunity to hand the gloves to someone else but he carried on doing an excellent job despite the pain. This type of heart and sacrifice for the team was a wonderful example. With the bat he showed that when he played straight and looked to play all the shots (as well as his favourite pull shot) he could be very dangerous. Levi s preparation for the season was a bit curtailed with a broken toe at the start of the season. When he batted he adopted a very professional approach and was always urging his batting partners on and discussing tactics with them, trying to build the partnership. He has all the shots, is a particularly strong player driving in the V and has an excellent defence. He played pace and spin well. He bowled well and oppositions showed him a lot of respect. He improved in bowling the left armers angle across the right hander. He often got wickets right when we needed them. He also caught well at first slip and took some screamers there. His example and leadership as captain were first class. I m proud to call him my son. Mark Tynan - Coach

27 UNDER 14 s SEASON TEAM REPORT Proudly Sponsored by - The under 14 s are a very competitive side and made the Semi finals again this year which is always a good positive team achievement and an aim for any side at the start of the season. We worked hard in that semi-final game but were knocked out by the team that went on to win the Premiership. We have made the Semi s or the Final every year with the team that knocks us out of the Semi s going on to become Premiers. We have to probably be a bit stronger mentally to get to the next level. Skill wise the Under 14 s can compete with all the competition was a real mixed season for the boys, they again found being consistent not so easy where they had some excellent games and some not so good games which is part of playing sport. They played and trained hard, had some fun and gave 100% which is all that I ever ask from them. With the boys changing in life so is their cricket, some of the boys I now have to look up to as they get taller and stronger. The cricket they play is getting harder each year with the speed, power and skills changing the game and each team they play giving nothing away so they need to take their chances when they come this can be a hard lesson to learn. The team is full of enthusiasm, youthfulness and they really have a great sense of fun and enjoyment which is excellent to be around but can also be very challenging. They enjoyed a lot of the skills drills I challenged them with then the light-hearted games to finish off a training session, sometimes not wanting to go home but to continue training all positive. Again as in previous years many thanks to the Parents who helped out in scoring, training and whatever was needed at the time, it was a great help. Also, I applaud the attitude of support that you showed not only to all our players but also the other teams. Thanks also to Steve Edwards (Parravans) for sponsoring the team. Congratulations to all the players for your results this year, I am hoping you learnt something new and useful to enhance your play next year and beyond in playing what I believe is one of the hardest games to play both Physically and most importantly Mentally. Practice is not just about getting it right but aiming to do it without getting it wrong. Keep working at it and try for without trying there is no real achievement. Steve Winters - Coach

32 UNDER 16 s SEASON TEAM REPORT Proudly Sponsored by - Bligh Park under 16 s faced a tough challenge this season as they were a young side playing in a strong competition with most of the boys playing above their age. It was a terrific effort therefore that the side was competitive and in the mix for the finals right until the last round. Unfortunately the results did not go our way, but the boys can be proud of what they achieved and the way in which they played the game. They have been a pleasure to coach and we thank them for an enjoyable season. Below are some comments on the successes of the boys this year. To the many parents who have helped out this year, through scoring, umpiring, getting the boys to the games and in general just supporting the team thank you. We need to thank Mark Van der Reyden as well as David and Mitchell Dray for their efforts as curators which ensured that we always had a quality field and pitch to play on. We should also note the numerous players from the under 14's who assisted when we were short numbers. They performed exceptionally well and achieved more than we could have asked from them playing two age groups up. Alex Colussi was a new face to the team this year. He was handy when called upon with the ball and took some valuable wickets. Alex always gave his best and played for the team. Brendan Sweeney was the loudest most annoying guy on the team. He doesn t know how to bowl at the stumps, and he attempts to clap batsmen out when in the field. He is an aggressive batsmen who seems to enjoy getting out he does it that much. However, Brendo is a much valued and important member of the team and we look forward to him entertaining us again next season. Corey Dimech is an emerging talent in all facets of the game. He was the team s most improved player this year and demonstrated his all round skill with some terrific bowling against Freemans Reach, great batting on a number of occasions but particularly against North Richmond in a low scoring affair, and some solid performances as wicket keeper. Corey Sly was another new member of the team this year. He has a great pair of hands and provided some attacking spin bowling giving our attack much needed variety. Corey plays with a wonderful attitude and team spirit. Daniel Magner had a fine season and was a consistent contributor with the bat. He is a positive role model and leader for the rest of the team and put in a fine performance as captain. Dan played in a competitive but fair manner throughout the season. Hayden Cole stepped up to the plate this year big time. He regularly made sizeable contributions with the bat and was the team s only centurion. He has safe hands in the field; a deadly accurate arm and his new burst of pace made his bowling unplayable at times. Jacob Magner contributed nicely again this season with his economical, pressure building bowling. He also made some timely contributions with the bat and really switched it on towards the second half of the season. Jacob is an absolute menace of a child who cannot be left unsupervised.

33 Jarred Coull had his progress in his bowling rewarded with an emerging blues trial. This year he bowled economically and without luck. He was a bit short of runs despite showing great potential with the bat, and he played a terrific cameo in the last match to remind us of what he will offer next year. Josh Dickie impressed with his tight, attacking bowling which caused problems for many top order batsmen. He played the game in a good spirit and always had something to say even when the other boys were feeling the pressure. Josh made some good contributions with the bat, and he will need a bigger oval than Woodbury if average spinners are going to bowl to him. Louis Butler is a capable batsman who dug in to build partnerships to rescue the team on more than one occasion. He is safe behind the stumps, but is also a handy partnership breaker with the ball. Louis is always smiling and laughing and maintaining team morale. Louis is a goose. Luke Rogan is a solid top order bat who looked good with some big scores early in the season. Some rough decisions seemed to find him and cut some other promising innings short. Luke showed his experience as a player and formed part of the leadership group helping to develop the younger players. It is also important to mention the contributions that Paul Gooley and Jagden Navdeep made to the team. They each played several games through the season and their services were very welcome. To all of the boys who have now finished with junior cricket we look forward to and hope that you will stay with the club and those that will be back again next season we will see you soon. Joe Conolly and Steve Magner - Coaches
