2 Robotics Tournament December 2017 Our Robotics team travelled to Hellenic Sports Club in Eastlea to participate in this tournament. About ten schools took part, including Home Schools, Primary Schools, and Hellenic Academy, Peterhouse Boys, and Midlands Christian College. In the Robot Game, two teams compete with each other at the same time for about 3 minutes, in which the robot has to complete as many missions or tasks as possible. In the first round we did not score well. In the second round we improved, picking up 30 points to get into the knockout rounds. We unfortunately got knocked out in the third round of the knockouts. Our project was about the Omni-Process, presented in Power point. This process is about turning human waste into drinkable water, which was in line with the theme of the competition entitled Hydrodynamics. We gained a lot by participating and enjoyed the tournament, although our performance was not up to the level which we expected it be at. We would like to thank Mr K Stamps for organizing the tournament and Mr Parbhoo for encouraging us to participate. Participating members: Tadiwanashe Maruza 1B (Captain), Tafara Mujaya 1G, Emmanuel Tagarisa 1G, Darren Dube 1B and Tinotenda Chadya 1B Basketball v Eaglesvale This was an interesting match between the two sides. The first few minutes were key to how the game was going to progress. The game started and there was a show of impressive basketball in the first half with Saints leading 10-9 at the break. The Second half was also a great showcase of good Basketball from both sides. Saint George s managed to grab a few points before the end of the game. There was some wonderful play from the team especially Ndakudzwa Sibanda, where he played some wonderful basketball with a total of 7 points 2 blocks and 3 steals and Tadiwa Chikutiro who had some amazing shots on target to help the team on attack. During the game there were fouls form both sides but otherwise the play was of the highest standard. The Defense was spot on and Attack was pitch perfect. At the end of the game Saint George s were victorious over Eaglesvale winning We would like to thank the coaches so far for their support for what they have taught us in the few weeks we have been playing this game. This stretches our lead to two games unbeaten. We hope that as the year progresses we may be an unbeaten U14 A side. However we must not be complacent as we have some strong teams still to play. 4 TENNIS RESULTS AGAINST PE 19/01/18 U14 One again the team did the college proud by beating PE in their own backyard. M Mberi blew his opponent 6 0 in the singles, so did P Matimbe while D Tagarira and T Makoni came out victorious 6 3 each. Even though the other team members edged the opposition in the doubles they found the singles a different ball game altogether. We welcome B Badza from his national tour of duty and hope that his wealth of experience will have a major impact on the team. Final result: SGC 7 PE 5 U15 The team struggled but emerged winners against a not so impressive PE team. N Senzanje and his partner C Mapenzauswa were convincing in the doubles but the later was stretched in the singles. The result could have gone either way and credit must be given to most of the players for their fighting spirit. In the end the narrow victory left the Saints team convinced that hard work does make a difference. Final result: SGC 7 PE 5 U16 T Samupambadze, T Majena and G Munyonga were the only players to win their singles. Otherwise it would have been an embarrassing whitewash by the PE team. Both the players and coaches have their work cut out for them if they are to redeem themselves against St John s College this week. All the teams in the A league are tough customers. Therefore there is need for everyone in the team to take training seriously and go the extra mile in order to develop confidence that we can take on anyone and come out winners. Final result: SGC 3 PE 9 After dispatching Hellenic Academy last week, the team suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of PE. The message to the Saints team is loud and clear, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR OPPONENT. Only M Raja and T Mangadze won their doubles 8 4. The former was uncompromising in the singles sending his opponent crashing M Mundangepfupfu also came to the party crushing his opposite number Other impressive wins came from T Mangadze and B Sawadya Unfortunately that was not good enough and the visitors went back smiling. St John s College is next and needless to say that each individual is required to be at their very best. Final result: SGC 5 PE 7 St George s v Prince Edward Result : 6-3 Table Tennis We won the first match.. On the back of a very successful season last year we went into this match with lots of confidence. All our juniors played well and we look forward to seeing how they progress during the course of the season. Our seniors played extremely well showing off the skill that brought us great success last year. Special mention must be made of J Kambambe (our Captain) who beat arguably P.E s best junior player in a very pulsating match that went right to the death. 2nd Team v Eaglesvale Result : Won 40-9 Basketball This was the second game of the season, and everybody was still hyped up from our last victory. Eaglesvale have shown to be very good contenders in the past, but did not pose us a threat. We knew this was not going to come easy so we needed our A game. From the first whistle on the tip off was won with ease by T Mauchi. This gave our attentive players the advantage. We needed to score first. We managed to maintain a smooth rhythm throughout the game. We did just this with M Musariri scoring 2 x 3 pointers, a layup plus two made free throws. Soon after T Midzi and K Mutetwa showing their worth with multiple layups, cunning steals and amazing assists. This put the team ahead by a number of points. All was needed was for us to wrap it up. Coach Clement entrusted a group of U17 s to carry this burden. These U17 s had a point to prove to the seniors and themselves : That they could handle the heat without breaking a sweat. Their outstanding passes, shooting and driving had the whole bench on the edge of their seats. Acknowledgment for improvement should be given to T Matiza and N Mhlanga. The team made a statement that nobody s jersey is safe and the top players need to tread carefully. Special thanks goes to Coach Clement and our sporting department for making this fixture possible. 5 Cricket XI v Lomagundi (40 over match played first) Result : Won by 8 wickets Confidence gained by Saints victory. The weather was kind to us again giving us a magnificent sunny day. St George s lost the toss and were put into the already scorching morning sun, to field. Some fantastic opening bowling by T Yekeye and E Bawa put the visiting team under immense pressure. Wickets fell at regular intervals with J Mugabe the pick of the bowlers. The left arm off spinner picked up fantastic figures of 5 for 11 runs. Lomagundi were eventually bowled out for 106 in 24 overs. The Saints innings got off to a bad start with the opening batsmen going out relatively cheaply but some calm batting by P Mugore and E Bawa got the hosts to victory. E Bawa top scored with 44 runs not out whilst P Mugore ably assisted him scoring 39 not out. The end result - Saints won by 8 wickets. By : W Geach Form : U6 XI v Lomagundi (T/15 match played second) Result : Won by 16 runs Saints show their dominance. After the first game finished early it was decided that a short 15 over a side game should be played. Saints won the toss and elected to bat first. Some early wickets brought L Precious and M Davies to the crease who stabilized the innings. Saints ended up on 102 off their 15 overs with M Davies top scoring with 44. Lomagundi started their innings off relatively slowly but started to fire at the end. Some excellent fielding accompanied by some wonderful bowling by E Bawa and H Patel got the home team to victory. We ended up winning by 16 runs. A great effort was put in by the boys and hopefully this will encourage us to excel in the games to come. By : W Geach Form : U6 Another easy win for cricket Saints played Lomagundi in a T20 format with teams having 2 innings of 20 overs each. Gundi batted first and laboured to a score of 113 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs with Lusiyano (2-13) the pick of the bowlers. Saints also struggled to score runs on a slow outfield but an outstanding opening partnership of 108 runs between Lusiyano (59) and Gwese (28) set the foundation for a good lead on first innings. Unfortunately the batsmen were unable to score freely at the end of the innings and we only managed 134 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs, a lead of only 21 runs. The Gundi tailenders then came into bat and were devastated by some accurate Saint's spin bowling. Muhammad took 3 wickets up front for 4 runs in as many overs and the rest of the Saint's bowlers cashed in to roll Gundi for only 23 runs in the 11th over. Garande got 3 for 2 and Chisango 2 for 3 in a much improved bowling performance. Saints was left to score just 3 runs for victory which was done without any fuss. They become brilliant at football, of course! Managed by eleven-year-old Tim, his unusual friend Cairo and Scottish World Cup-winner McCloud (yes that happened' apparently), Llama United goes on an amazing cup run. But who wants to lose to a team of stupid llamas? Nobody, that's who! Rival teams will do anything in their power to stop Llama United in its tracks.
