2 chairperson s Address On behalf of Durrow Development Forum, I am delighted to present the 2018 Scarecrow Festival Programme of events. We are overwhelmed by the continued success of the festival and never imagined it would receive so much acclaim. This is with thanks to the people of Durrow and the surrounding areas. The festival is organised by volunteers who work tirelessly to make all the events so successful, to our scarecrow makers, sponsors and those who provide services free of charge, we thank you all most sincerely for your help. Durrow, a beautiful village in the heart of the Midlands, is the hidden gem of Ireland s Ancient East and has a beauty that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit here. Whilst visiting the Durrow Scarecrow Festival why not take the time to see what the area has to offer. Start off at the High Nelly Museum (in Bob s Bar) or enjoy Castle Durrow Gardens. After that, if you are feeling energetic, you can explore the Leafy Loop Walk, the cycle trail or even enjoy some kayaking or fishing. The community playground is a must for children Your support is a true indication of the wonderful community spirit that is inherent in Durrow. All proceeds from the festival is invested back into the community and will be used to fund the refurbishment of the former Methodist Church (ICA Hall) and the adjoining Civil Defence Hall which we hope to amalgamate into a Community Centre to facilitate all organisations in our area. And so, we welcome you to the 2018 Durrow Scarecrow Festival. We hope you enjoy our nine days of uninhibited imagination, creativity, music and fun. We can guarantee that you will find something to make you smile. There s so much more... to Durrow! Evelyn Clancy Chairperson of Durrow Development Forum Durrow Development Forum Committee and is in the Irish Times 50 best playgrounds in Ireland. Spend time in our village, have something to eat in our restaurants or cafes and enjoy our pubs and shops. Durrow is a welcoming, friendly and happy place which will no doubt find a special place in your heart. Nearby Abbeyleix bog covers an area of 500 acres that is thriving with life from all its flora and fauna. The Fly Fishing and Game Museum in Attanagh, Donaghmore Workhouse Museum, The Slieve Blooms and Heywood Gardens are also well worth a visit. Durrow Development Forum in conjunction with Laois County Council are delighted to showcase Phase 1 of our rejuvenated Square Project. Our festival is a volunteer run event raising funds for projects to preserve and enhance our village. Entry Fees Scarecrow Village Children are free every day EXCEPT Monday 6th August when we host the IWW Wrestling event. Admission on 6th August is 3 per person big or small Teenagers aged between 13 and 18 years have reduced entry rate of 1 every day, EXCEPT Monday 6th On opening day, Sunday 29th July, admission to the Village is 3 for adults, 1 for teens and again children are free Weekdays, Monday 30th July to Thursday 2nd August, adult s admission to the village will reduce to 2 and again children are free Adult entry to the village from Friday 3rd August reverts to 3 for our final weekend. Arts and Crafts Exhibition Adults admission is 2 and children and teens go free The Ranch Adults admission is 2 both weekends but will reduce to only 1 from Monday 30th July to Thursday 2nd August And again, children go free to all our events, except the IWW Wrestling on Monday 6th August. PLEASE NOTE: Independent Vendors located within the Scarecrow Village charge their own rates for the use of bouncy castles or games etc. This is at their own discretion and does not fall under the responsibility of the Durrow Development Forum. During the week, from Monday to Friday, the Scarecrow Village will open from 2pm until 9pm The following areas will open from 11am every day..... LADIES NIGHT Have a Ladies Night out with your friends in Castle Durrow on Tuesday 31st July at 7.30pm where you can enjoy a three course meal, with a complimentary glass of wine.

Tickets are 35, places are limited, text Irene on TEEN ZONE Our Teen Zone runs specifically for boys and girls aged 13-17yrs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with activities taking place in the Scarecrow Village, the Erkina River and LaserWars. ROUND BALE COMPETITION Open to clubs, families and groups of friends. Book your pitch and hay bale on or and join in the fun on competition day. Bale decorating will start on Saturday 28th July and will be completed on Sunday 29th July by 12 noon ready for the opening of The Scarecrow Festival. 10 per entry with 300 in prize money. Entry Forms can be downloaded on the website at ONCE UPON A SCARECROW Located in the small triangular lawn beside Tae Lane as you head out the Kilkenny Road. This interactive zone will be the home of fairytale-themed scarecrows with lots of fun and games for the younger age group with costumes you can dress up in. Puppet Shows will be taking place here on Sunday 5th August at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. These will be a lot of fun!
