1 Kingborough Tigers Junior Football Club Inc. ABN Welcome to everyone to a new year of STJFL footy! 2013 is promising to be the biggest year in our club s long history, with many age groups fielding two strong teams, a large committee made up of helpful and resourceful people and continuing upgrades to our ovals, facilities and clubrooms. Currently, the committee is working very hard to have everything ready for the start of the season, which is less than four weeks away. Registrations have been going well (thanks to Sally Donnelly and her band of helpers), our finances are strong (thanks to our new treasurer Les Gardner) and our footy department is well organised thanks to the Coaching coordinators, the experienced Kirk Hughes (Youth) and the very passionate Cooee Direen (Juniors). Also, the appointment of Chris Donnelly to the STJFL board now means our club has a strong voice in the STJFL. I can report that the new Under 16 group (combined under 15 and 16) is progressing very well, with a squad of over 40 players training twice a week at the twin ovals under the watchful eye of coaches Craig Roberts and Bob Burgess, coaching mentor Tim Pearce and a band of assistant coaches. The boys are bonding very well and it looks like two very good teams (1 x A division and 1 x B Division) will be selected in the coming weeks. Both sides will be playing practice games at the Twin Ovals on Saturday 23 March against Southern Storm and Glenorchy. These games are curtain raisers for the big clash between Towball s U14s and the North Hobart Women's Side. The u14s will be running a BBQ to help raise funds for their players trip next year, so come along and have a snag and watch some top class youth (and women s) footy. In regards to our own ground and clubrooms, I can confirm that the curse of the flooding wing should be a thing of the past, as the Council are starting work to fix the drainage as of Monday the 18th of March, the day after the Cricket finals are completed. This work is planned to be complete and ready for the start of the footy season on April 7 (hopefully!!). Please show patience whilst this important work is done, it will be worth it! Also, upgrades to the Bar and clubrooms will continue, with the help of our co-tenants the Crows Cricket Club. And on that note, congratulations to the Kingston Crows A Grade side who took out their Grand Final on Sunday after a rain interrupted day on Saturday. Under 9 coach Marc Owen and Under 12 dad Adam Henley were part of the winning team so congratulations to you both. Lastly, I will be speaking to all teams over the next couple of weeks to emphasise my wish for us to be seen as the model club in the competition. I don t want us to be the subject of complains or even rumour regarding bad player or parent conduct, either towards other teams or especially the umpires officiating games. By all means be passionate and vocal and love your footy, but do not be abusive, derogatory or degrading to other players, coaches, parents or umpires. Such conduct may result in our club being fined, or result in players, coaches and even parents banned from games by the STJFL or our Committee. Well, that was my first crack at a President s report in the newsletter! Hope to see you all soon. Go Tigers! Mike Glancy President

If you have never been to the Twin Ovals complex now is your chance to visit and enjoy the great atmosphere. Women and girls in the club, if you have ever wondered about how to go about playing football, come along and watch the women have a lot of fun. Kids from all age groups will be training together so it will be a great way to build club spirit and for kids in all age groups to get to know each other. Our coaches will be running the sessions and we will be bringing in some guest coaches such as Kingston Senior players and Tassie Mariners at various times during the season. Our first FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTY/FUN/FITNESS session will be Friday 19 th April at 5.30 pm at Kingston Beach Oval. 5 SENIOR CLUB AMALGAMATION As you may know, our club is working with the Kingborough Tigers Senior Club towards amalgamation into one Kingborough Club, that will hold 50% of the licence of the new TSL club starting in our area in The main concern of many people is that we will be the poor cousin in this arrangement. On the contrary, we believe that the Junior section of the new Club will be supported strongly by the new board and the Senior section of the Club, as they believe that the strength of the new Club lies in the development of youth players and volunteers that will be members of the Club for many years. The dream of both the Senior and Junior Clubs is to see a player currently in the under 8s play all their time with one Club, right up to the day they are drafted to the AFL. Currently, our players need to go to Hobart based TSL Clubs to get the best opportunity to achieve this goal, leading to numerous talented players leaving the Kingston area to play high level footy. When the Kingborough based TSL Club starts in 2014, our kids have the opportunity to aim to play in their home town on the State s best ground and within one of the State s largest Sporting Club. And, we will still run our own Committee as we always have. Exciting times are ahead!
