18 SPORTS KORONEIHANA INDOOR BOWLS TROPHY This year the Koroneihana Indoor Bowls was played on Sunday 5 August 2012 in Kimiora at Tuurangawaewae Marae. With the introduction of Indoor Bowls at the Waikato-Tainui Games the Marae fiercely fight it out to become the winners of the Koroneihana Competition. What is also surprising is the amount of tamariki who are active in Indoor Bowls and seem to enjoy it as much as the Kaumaatua. The committee acknowledge Piupiu Hobson who has been playing for 50 years. KORONEIHANA TOUCH Relatively a new sport to Koroneihana Touch promotes whaanau and Marae teams to come and be part of the kaupapa of Koroneihana. The carved trophies above were donated during the time of Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu and pay homage to the whaanau who continually support the Koroneihana. There are four sections which are : Champion, Whaanau, Tamariki and Social. The rules also stipulate that Representative players are limited. KORONEIHANA NETBALL Teams from all over Tainui travel each year to compete in the Koroneihana Netball competition, despite the regional netball competitions which seem to clash with Koroneihana registrations go over 20 teams participating. The trophies were donated to Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu. There are 5 women divisions : Senior A & B, Mixed and Premiers and a Open Men's division. INDOOR BOWLS TOUCH - WHANAU TOUCH - TAMARIKI TOUCH - CHAMPION TOUCH - SOCIAL NETBALL NETBALL 18 KIA WHAKANUI I TE TAU TUAWHITU O NGA RA KORONEIHANA O KIINGI TUHEITIA

The origins of these trophies are unknown but the earliest dates on the shields date back to the 1950's. In order to challenge for the Tonga Mahuta Shield teams must first enter into and win the Tumate Mahuta Cup challenger series. KORONEIHANA RUGBY Te Aa Pokaia Cup Challenger Series; This tournament is for Whaanau, Hapuu, Iwi and Marae teams.
