Kind regards Lee 2016 National Conference in Christchurch Ruthie and I, represented Waikato at the National Conference in Christchurch it was great to exchange ideas, and find out what all the other Societies are doing. It was an extremely well run Conference, the AGM was held on Friday night, with a tour of the city the next morning, then all the guest speakers on Saturday afternoon, with Dinner and entertainment at night. 2 Fishing Trip Big News for all you fishing fiends! We have spots available for the fishing trip booked on the 19th November 2016 with Coromandel Fishing Charters run by Tom and Lorraine. The plan is to drive up to the Coromandel on Friday18th November to arrive at the accommodation, Te Koumo Cottages, then up with the Taranaki Amputees and do a bit of socializing and get a reasonably night so we can be up bright and early on Saturday morning. team early Fishing will begin early Saturday morning, and I mean early, we have to be at the boat by am yep, told you it was early!!! As for me, I love the sport, there is nothing like going out in the ocean, river or lake at the start or end of a day s work.

Our adaptive paddlers ranged from leg amputees, wheel chair mobility, spinal and hip injuries, functions of one arm. they came from Hawkes Bay, Tauranga, Raglan and Auckland.

As for me I won a Bronze and Silver Medal We are now working at taking a couple of NZ teams to the world championships this year in Australia to compete against other teams from around the world.

Waka Ama is the fastest growing family sport in NZ. You can go to to find a lot of info about the sport and contacts in different areas around NZ. As for me, I love the sport, there is nothing like going out in the ocean, river or lake at the start or end of a day s work. At the Nationals there were 4 V1 ADAPTIVE paddlers in the sprints ( V1 is single seated canoes) and 3 6 seater canoes in the 250m and 500m sprints. Our adaptive paddlers ranged from leg amputees, wheel chair mobility, spinal and hip injuries, functions of one arm. they came from Hawkes Bay, Tauranga, Raglan and Auckland. We were a small number compared to the 2000 other competitors, but were treated no different. We are currently looking for someone to take creative control over the newsletter. To ensure we have a regular newsletter being distributed we are looking to have a person to volunteer to work with the committee by editing proposed entries, finding and creating interesting articles surrounding life as an amputee and report on what s happening in the region. Skin breakdown is the process of skin being worn away, possibly resulting in sores. Usually, the disorders that put people at risk of amputations (such as vascular disorders or diabetes, which decreases circulation to the limbs) also increases the risk of skin breakdown and infection after amputation. Some of these disorders (such as diabetes) and others (such as neurologic disorders) impair the ability to feel pain and other sensations. People with such disorders may not feel discomfort or pain when skin breaks down or infection develops and they do not notice these problems. These people should remove their prosthesis several times a day to check the skin for redness and other signs of breakdown or infection. Other people should check for these signs at least once daily. Skin problems can be serious and should be evaluated and treated as necessary by a health care professional in consultation with prosthetist. As people become familiar with reoccurring problems, they may be able to identify which problems are minor and manage them on their own. However, anything unusual, persistent, painful or worrisome should be evaluated by a health care professional.
