Thanks to everybody who came along to the clubrooms on the day and we hope that everybody enjoyed themselves. Thanks also to everybody who turned out to welcome Mary Harney to the clubrooms on the 14 th March. She enjoyed her visit and we enjoyed hosting her and her husband at the club. 4 Capital Irish Radio Show Filled with Irish news, live music and tales. Next broadcast on 783AM: 12:00pm on Sunday 11th April Right: Margaret Aitken (Senior Presenter and Promoter) The Capital Irish team is now in its 6th year of broadcasting on Wellington Access Radio. The show was conceived in 2003 by Limerick man Tim Collins, who was working in Wellington and saw the need for an Irish radio programme. Tim later brought on board Margaret Aitken who is still at the helm today as senior presenter and promoter. Margaret, a qualified nurse, says she initially had no radio knowledge whatsoever, except as a listener tuning in to the show. Though she found producing the show quite challenging at first, we re glad she decided to tough it out. Margaret says I managed to acquire a great team of Irish people from various parts of Ireland, which keeps the show authentic. We have had various people on the programme and last year I was involved with The Festival Of The Arts Management in bringing various Irish performers to the show. Daniel McCaffrey (another presenter) has been of monumental help in various ways. Our current presenters apart from me are Daniel McCaffrey, Roy McGuinness, Neasa Scanlon, Peter Kelly, Jim Friel, Colin McNulty and Alice Paul, and technician Adam. The programme includes modern and traditional Irish music, book and movie reviews, Irish news, local events and activities with an Irish flavour, interviews and live music. Capital Irish has interviewed many Irish Celebrities over the years, including current President Mary McAleese, and featured performances from many musical groups. Margaret says she hopes that the show continues to grow and embrace everything Celtic. Capital Irish is sponsored by Green Man and the Irish Trust. If you would like to contact the team, you can to: capitalirish@gmail.com Tune in to Capital Irish, every Sunday at 12pm

Hi, I m trying to locate a old lost friend of my mother for a reunion she is having later in the year, the only information I have to go on is that his name is Hugh and that they met at a dance in 1965, he was in his late twenty's and worked for a roading crew, possibly a foreman/manager and was living in one of the camps in Wellington, he had a strong Irish accent and was a member of the club. Any information would be much appreciated. Regards Paul Stevenson If you can help, please contact us at the club and Comhaltas The next Comhaltas session is Saturday week the 24th of April 1.30 to 5.30pm at the Irish Club Please come along to enjoy some Irish Music and Dancing. 9 Last Month s Answers 1. The match, of course. 2. The Pacific was the largest - no matter if it was discovered or not. 3. It was light out when he went to bed. 4. They are goldfish and a wind blew the fishbowl over This Month s Teasers 1. There are three switches downstairs. Each corresponds to one of the three light bulbs in the attic. You can turn the switches on and off and leave them in any position. How would you identify which switch corresponds to which light bulb, if you are only allowed one trip upstairs? 2. Christmas Tree Four angels sat on the Christmas tree amidst other ornaments. Two had blue halos and two yellow. However, none of them could see above his head. Angel A sat on the top branch and could see the angels B and C, who sat below him. Angel B, could see angel C who sat on the lower branch. And angel D stood at the base of the tree obscured from view by a thicket of branches, so no one could see him and he could not see anyone either. Which one of them could be the first to guess the color of his halo and speak it out loud for all other angels to hear? Joke of the Month A man and a friend are playing golf one day. One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer. His friend says: "Wow! That is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You are truly a kind man." The other man replies, "Yeah, well, we were married 35 years." LAUGH, AND THE WORLD LAUGHS WITH YOU; WEEP, AND YOU WEEP ALONE. Ella Wheeler Wilcox
