January PM DOCK 633 HOME TO ROOST Our Phun Phlocking will be on Sunday, January 28th at our home roost, Dock 633 from 3-6 pm. M 2 will be playing and singing all our Trop Rock favorites outside on the patio, unless the weather doesn t cooperate, then we have plenty of room to move the Phun inside. Price of admission is non-perishable food items for our local food bank. There will be trivia questions with prizes. Look for the answer to one of them in this newsletter. All members must sign in for the members only gift card drawing. Be sure to join us for another Phun Philled Phlocking. M 2 is Mike Reynolds and Mark Snyder, their guitars and wonderful voices. They know lots of Trop Rock standards; just ask for your favorites! Mike and Mark are from Lake Placid and are available for your private party. Just ask. We are collecting information on volunteer hours and the charities we have served to submit to the national organization. We had some new members join and we ve had some awesome Phlockings. Join us at Bo David s for the February Phlocking (on the 25th) with John Friday. Most importantly in this edition, election time is coming. The General Election for officers and board members will be held in March. This year, the president, vice president and 2 director positions will need to be filled. If you are interested or would like to nominate someone, see a board member at a phlocking or Linda (her address is at the end of this column.) The next business meeting will be at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, February 13th at the Mid- Florida Community Center, Stuart Ave., Lake Placid. Everyone is welcome to attend with ideas and/or margaritas. Wishing you all life s best in In 2017 we donated a whopping 454 lbs. of food; toiletry items and clothing to Manna Ministries, Peace River Women s Shelter and Veterans Organizations. In March, we put together 20 Easter baskets. 10 went to Big Brothers, Big Sisters and 10 went to the Peace River Women s Shelter. Good job of partying with a purpose, everyone. Now, let s continue making a difference here in Highlands County and do even more in We need all of you to join us in volunteering our time and donating items to help local charities. 4 A PHUNTASTIC TIME WAS HAD BY ALL AT OUR HOLIDAY PHLOCKING It was great weather for gathering outside on Bo David s patio, listening to the Trop Rock tunes of Scotty Bryan. Many gifts were exchanged as we played our version of musical presents. Everyone looked very festive in their holiday and tropical outfits and much Phun was had by all lbs. of food and toiletries were collected. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Norma Rizer won the booze basket sleigh raffle. Patsy Stamm won the member drawing and the guess the number of bells in the jar contest. Tom Roberts won the concession prize. Guest Nick Sauls won a flashing parrot pin.

5 HEART SHAPED JELL-O SHOTS These are perfect to share on Valentine s Day. 1 C. boiling water 3 oz. pack cherry Jell-O 1/2 C. vodka Stir Jell-O into boiling water until dissolved. Whisk in vodka. Pour onto baking sheet and refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours. Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, stamp out shapes and top with sprinkles, if desired. SLOW COOKER GREEN BEANS AND POTATOES My Grandmother made this for me when I went to stay with her and it has always been one of my favorites. 2 lbs. fresh green beans, large ones cut in half 1 1/2 lbs. new potatoes, quartered 8 oz. fresh portabella mushrooms, sliced 1 large onion, chopped 1 ham steak, cut into bite size pieces 1 can cream of mushroom soup 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped Fresh ground pepper Seasoning salt, to taste Place beans and onion in slow cooker with enough water to barely cover. Cook on high until simmering. Reduce heat and cook for 2-3 hours, or just until beans are crisp but not done. Add potatoes and cook for another 45 minutes. Whisk soup with 1/2 can of water until smooth and add along with the ham, mushrooms and seasonings. Cook until potatoes are done, then adjust seasonings to taste. Serve with crusty Italian bread, biscuits or corn bread, and herb butter. Did you ever want to tell people about the Heartland Lake Sharks?
