1 20 th February 2017 No. 3 IMPORTANT DATES February Monday 20 th F-6 Royal Flying Doctor Simulator visit Tuesday 21 st House Swimming for Year 7 to 12 AFL Bulldogs player visit Thursday 23 rd Catch Up School Photos Friday 24 th VCE English Study day in Horsham Casual Clothes day March Thursday 2 nd Black Ranges Swimming Carnival Year 7-12 House Swimming Carnival The year 7-12 students will be holding their House Swimming Carnival on this Tuesday February 21. The Carnival is a twilight event starting at 2pm and going to 7pm at the Murtoa Swimming Pool. As such the year 7-12 students do not have to come to school on Tuesday. I would like to invite Parents/Guardians and friends to join us for the carnival as all year 7-12 students are expected to attend. Students are also expected to make their own way to the pool. Please note: The regular bus services will not be operating except for the Horsham big bus. It will be running on a revised timetable that will be passed onto relevant students. Week 4 Term 1 Uniform Congratulations and a big thank you to the overwhelming majority of students who are wearing correct school uniform with pride. You look sensational. All students have a hat on in the yard and are making a strong effort to do the right thing during this very warm weather. Little things make a big difference. Could parents please support our efforts and check the small things like students having their hat at school? Royal Flying Doctor Service The F-6 students will have a great day on Monday February 20 when the Royal Flying Doctor Service visits the college. They are bringing a flight simulator for the visit and every student in the F-6 area will get a chance to learn about the service and experience a ride in the simulator. I hope they have a great time! AFL Bulldogs Player visit 4 players from the reigning AFL premier s football team the Bulldogs will visit the college on Tuesday morning. They will spend time with the F-6 students and talk about life skills, their journey to football at the Bulldogs and what it was like to win the premiership. Can I encourage parents and guardians to please ask the students about the visit when they get home on Tuesday? The players will do an open training session in Horsham on Tuesday morning before coming out to Murtoa. VCE study day Our year 12 VCE students will attend the annual VCE study day in Horsham this Friday. These sessions are important in that they give the students direction and good solid advice on how to approach their study during this very demanding year. Good Luck to all students and teachers that attend this very important study day.

The week that was! (Week 3 Term 1) School Council The first meeting for 2017 occurred last Tuesday. All the reports that were presented and the items discussed in general business indicated that the college has started the year quite well. This was the last meeting for the 2016 council. I would like to thank the outgoing staff for their tireless efforts in helping to make this college a better educational institution. Thank you to Mrs Rachelle Chapman and Mr Brad Venn. Year 7 Camp to Roses Gap Last Wednesday saw the year 7 cohort head off to Roses Gap in the Grampians for the annual year 7 camp. The students spent 3 days doing a range of exciting activities but the overriding aim of the camp was to get the students to know each other and get ready for 6 years of secondary education. The camp went very well from all reports. Thank you to Mr Shane Williams for organising and running the camp. I would also like to thank Mrs Leanne Jenion and Mrs Anne Sudholz for helping to make this camp a great start to secondary schooling for the 2017 Year 7 cohort. Wimmera Sport Stars of the Year The Wimmera Sport Stars of the year award ceremony was held on Friday February 10 in Horsham. Laelah Robertson and Cleo Baker were nominated for the Wimmera Sports Stars for the month of October 2016 in the sport of volleyball.
