9 At Bunnings in Malaga This will be held on Sunday 29 th November 2015 Volunteers are required to help throughout the day even for an hour. Please contact Greg Walker with your offer of help on or and put the subject heading ATT: Greg Walker before 20 th November so that rosters can be made. These fundraisers allow the Beachcombers club to pay for things such as insurance and to subsidise Field Days for club members. Please support your club by helping with this event. 9

10 December 2015 Field Day The details of this Field Day will be confirmed in the December issue of the Shorelines. We are camping at Guilderton for this weekend and would love as many members to come along as possible. It is a great family weekend and, as it is close to Christmas, it is a chance for a bit of a celebration for those who can t get the December General Meeting. There is still one booked powered site available for $45 per night (it is booked for both Friday and Saturday). Contact Jennie on if you are interested. 10

11 Freshwater Field day Report 17 th & 18 th October 2015 For several months prior to this October, Chas had put in many long hours/days of meticulous field research into fishing times, locations, rigs, baits and techniques in an effort to fully understand the Way of the Trout in anticipation of this Field Day. Saturday morning Peter stopped by Mark and Wendy s place so they could travel in convoy to the bakery in Waroona. At the appointed sign on Chas showed up ready for some freshwater action and keen to start. Once some essential pies, sausage rolls and apple turnovers had been purchased, we followed Chas to one of his favourite trout spots near a creek on Waroona dam. The trout hooks up!!....the Landing. Within 5 minutes of lines-down Chas had landed a rainbow trout Seaweed Pete A.K.A Sticks Stoeckel, happy with his catch at Waroona Dam on some gulp trout cheese, this early success inspired Mark equivalent. Chas decided to leave and try a secret spot he knew to contain hordes of hungry pygmy perch. An hour later he was back with a bucket containing 53 pygmy perch and a western minnow that were quickly returned to the Mark s lonely Redfin Perch spot here Mark caught a redfin perch on lure. Several rainbow trout and a redfin perch found Chas s hook but eluded those of Peter and Mark. Another rainbow trout in the net! The Measuring...And the Release. and Peter to copy Chas s techniques, but alas they couldn t catch anything, despite switching over and trying various lures, although Seaweed Pete managed to land the freshwater water after measuring. After he d Chas s western minnow and a bucket of pygmy perch caught another rainbow, Chas said that the afternoon conditions at Harvey dam would be better for trout, so we followed him to another favourite A quick photo before Chas returns the Rainbow to freedom! 11

12 Late afternoon Mark, Wendy and Peter drove further around the dam to find a better spot to set up for some night fishing. Chas went to a location that he knew to contain freshwater cobbler, here he witnessed a pair of long necked turtles swimming serenely in the tranquil pool and frustratingly also the big cobblers on the bottom not taking the slightest interest in his bait. Well after sun down he visited the others to declare the only bites he d had was from the veracious mosquitoes that nearly drained him dry. Peter and Mark still hadn t added to the lone redfin, so called drive to Drakes Brook dam where he and Annella walked the stream feeding the dam, he d had a couple of good trout it a night and turned in. Sunday morning the clouds rolled in from the west and lines were back in the water for an hour or so without success, so we upped stakes and tried on the downstream side of the dam wall, which was very pretty but not fishy at all, the rain started. A quick phone call to Chas lead us to strikes but none were landed. We Pool below the Harvey Dam wall called an early sign off Chas and Annella went for coffee while Mark, Wendy and Peter stopped at the bakery for last minute pastry delights before heading north for home. There were 62 fish made up of 4 species [6 Rainbow Trout, 53 Pygmy Perch, 2 Redfin Perch & 1 Mark & Dougie not catching fish at the pool Western Minnow] measuring at total of 5.93 metres. Of the three competitors, Chas caught the longest fish, a rainbow trout at 30cm, had the longest bag at 5.69 metres, 61 of the 62 fish caught and the most points [2559], proving that thorough, painstaking research yields goods results in a comprehensive win. Except for the redfin perch, all fish were returned unharmed to the water to swim another day. The next FD is a club favourite: Cervantes!! Mark Hansen Field Day Officer How s the serenity? 14 Dry Casting Event The Beachcombers Angling & Boating Club of WA will be holding a Dry Casting event/competition on Start time will be 8.30am Family - $10.00 Single - $5.00 Sunday 15 th November 2015 at King s Meadow Polo Ground, Meadow Street, Guildford. Events will be: 56gram Artificial Bait 112 gram Double and Single Hand Accuracy All members and visitors are welcome! 15 November Munchies Fruit Tarts 6 slices raisin bread olive oil spray 2 x 125g ctns Vanilla Creme Fruche kiwifruit, banana, strawberries, and blueberries to serve. Step 1 Preheat oven to 180 C. Use a serrated knife to remove the crusts from raisin bread. Use a rolling pin to roll the bread firmly to flatten. Spray six 80ml (1/3-cup) capacity muffin pans with olive oil spray to lightly grease. Press the bread slices into the prepared pans. Spray with olive oil spray. Bake in oven for 8 minutes or until light golden. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Spoon Vanilla Creme Fruche among the tart cases. Top with sliced kiwifruit, sliced banana, sliced strawberries and blueberries to serve. Sweet Strawberry Salsa 400g fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced 4 roma tomatoes, seeds removed and diced 1 green chilli, seeds removed and finely diced 2 cloves garlic, finely diced 1 lime, juiced handful chopped coriander leaves 1 tablespoon olive oil In a medium bowl, combine strawberries, tomatoes, chilli, garlic, lime juice, coriander and oil. Toss together well. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. 15
