7 Details for September 2018 Field Day Bluffcreek Dates: 22 nd to 24 th September 2018 Boundaries: Bluff Creek bay and as far as you can walk around the rocky headlands. Field Day Fees: $10 for family and $5 for single. Sign on: pm [noon] Saturday 22 nd September, at the campsite at Bluffcreek. Lines down: 1.00 pm [1300hours] Saturday 22 nd September 2018 Sign off: 8.00am Monday 24 th September, at the campsite. Or by prior arrangement with the FDO Any Questions: ring the FDO: Mark on or mhansen.iinet.net.au UHF radio channel: 10 IMPORTANT: please let him know by no later than the evening of Thursday 20 th September if you intend to go to this Field Day venue. This Field Day is held over a long week-end. Allow at least 5 hours to drive down from Perth, some of us may travel down on Friday. Apart from dodgy fresh water in the creeks, there are no facilities at this venue, all provisions will have to be BYO. Bring warm and wet weather gear as we are closer to winter than summer on the south coast. Our usual campsite is at the eastern end of the bay about 900metres inland, under the paperbark trees. We usually have a communal BBQ at midday Sunday. Some big fish are caught here, Salmon, Skippy, Snapper, Shark, Tailor with the usual small stuff herring, sweep, whiting, wrasse, flathead, blackfish and many other species. For Albany.. On Saturday, 22th of September of 2018, the sun will rise in Albany at 5:59 am and sunset will be at 6:05 pm. In the high tide and low tide chart, we can see that the first low tide will be at 3:10 am and the next low tide at 4:32 pm. The first high tide will be at 9:24 am and the next high tide at 10:48 pm. We will have 12 hours and 6 minutes of sun. The solar transit will be at 12:02 pm. On Sunday, 23th of September of 2018, the sun will rise in Albany at 5:57 am and sunset will be at 6:06 pm. In the high tide and low tide chart, we can see that the first low tide will be at 3:42 am and the next low tide at 4:47 pm. The first high tide will be at 9:54 am and the next high tide at 10:55 pm. We will have 12 hours and 9 minutes of sun. The solar transit will be at 12:01 pm. On Monday, 24th of September of 2018, the sun will rise in Albany at 5:56 am and sunset will be at 6:06 pm. In the high tide and low tide chart, we can see that the first low tide will be at 4:13 am and the next low tide at 5:03 pm. The first high tide will be at 10:23 am and the next high tide at 11:06 pm. We will have 12 hours and 10 minutes of sun. The solar transit will be at 12:01 pm. 7

8 August 2018 Field Day Report Conditions: cold, fine, sunny, light easterly winds, high water in dams Mark s rainbow trout On a fine but chilly Saturday morning, two members Chas and Mark [and Dougie ] showed up at the bakery in Waroona for the appointed sign on. After spending some serious coin on bread and pastries we headed for Drakesbrook dam. Agreeing to start the Field Day half an hour early, we had lines wet at 11.30am. The water was high and a little turbid due to the good rainfall run off in the district over the winter months. Just after noon Mark caught and released a nice 24cm rainbow trout on plastics and ten minutes later Chas landed a bigger 26cm rainbow caught on trout cheese, and then another three including a fine 38cm specimen. Mark had a good strike and a rainbow danced on the water like a sailfish before throwing the hook in a successful bid for liberty. Meanwhile Dougie spent a frustrating couple of hours in the car to prevent Chas & Dougie enjoying the water him from disturbing the fish with his enthusiasm for the water, he was let out later to stretch his legs and reply to pe s left by others on the trees. Mid afternoon we moved onto Harvey dam, trying a couple of spots before Chas landed a redfin perch on a hard bodied lure. As the sun disappeared behind the hills, we made our way to Chas s secret cobbler spot, set up his fish attracting submersible green light, lobbed a couple of peeled prawns and waited for bites. For quite awhile the only bites were from the rather hungry mozzies, the decision was made to remove the green light. This proved a good move as Chas caught a 27cm cobbler and Mark landed a 28cm specimen. After a long day of continuous fishing we agreed to end the Field Day that night. A total of 8 Mark waiting for the Green Magic to work fish made up of three species: Freshwater Cobbler, Rainbow Trout & Redfin Perch tallied to 2.11 metres were all caught and released. Mark bookended the FD with the first and last fish while Chas made up the rest of the volume with six fish, three species winning the competition with the longest bag [1.59metres], the longest fish a 38cm rainbow trout. Our next Field day is at Bluffcreek on the September 22 nd -24 th long weekend. This will be something novel, as we haven t fished this venue in spring before. 11 Dry Casting 9 th September 2018 Beachcombers Nobody can complain about the weather we have had over the last 2 casting days, almost perfect conditions apart from the oval itself which needs to be mowed but cannot be done until it dries out. Another good roll up with 8 members and 3 visitors, Peter and Rob Pekaar along with Jeff Hewton. Chas and I broke even in the single-handed accuracy with 29 each. Chas had an average day with 2 outs in the distance but took out the honours for the club with some good casts in the art. bait m and m in the 112gr. My best cast for the day was in the 56gr. Double handed accuracy scores weren t up to scratch apart from Rob who had one of his best days with 156. The next highest was 138 by me. Not forgetting the only bullseye for the day by John Crompton in the single-handed accuracy. Mark had another good day with no mishaps and 129 in the double-handed accuracy. Rob could not do anything right in the distance events with only 1 good cast out of 6. Peter had the opposite with only 1 cast out of court along with m in the 112gr which was the longest cast for the day, along with m in the 56gr. Let s see a good roll up again next month and don t forget I always have rods and reels for anyone who wants to come along and have a cast and stay for the sausage sizzle. It would be great to see some new faces. 12 Dry Casting Event 7 th October 2018 The Beachcombers Angling & Boating Club of WA will be holding a Dry Casting event/competition on Start time will be 8.30am Family - $10.00 Single - $5.00 Sunday 7 th October 2018 at Kings Meadow Polo Ground, Meadow Street, Guildford. Events will be: 56gram Artificial Bait 112 gram Double and Single Hand Accuracy All members and visitors are welcome! Cool drinks and water will be available for purchase - $1 each Sausage Sizzle - $2 each 12

13 AAAWA State Dry Casting Competition This event will be held on Sunday 28 th October 2018 at Kings Meadow in Guildford. The event starts at 8.00am sharp. Please contact Ron Thomas via the Beachcombers for more details. The Beachcomber s will be holding a sausage sizzle at this event so if you would like to volunteer your help for this (contact Jennie Stoeckel), or to help with scoring the event, your offer will be more than welcome! 13

14 September munchies Spicy Barbecued Chilli Prawns Serves: 6 1/3 cup (80ml) olive oil 1/4 cup (60ml) sesame oil 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 2 tablespoons Tabasco sauce 2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 tablespoon tomato sauce 1 tablespoon chilli paste 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon black pepper 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1kg large prawns, peeled and deveined 12 wooden skewers, soaked in water Whisk together the olive oil, sesame oil, parsley, Tabasco sauce, minced garlic, tomato sauce, chilli paste, salt, pepper and lemon juice in a mixing bowl. Set aside about 1/3 of this marinade to use while barbecuing. 2.Place the prawns in a large, resealable plastic bag or a bowl. Pour in the remaining marinade and seal the bag/cover the bowl. Refrigerate for 2 hours. 3.Preheat the BBQ for high heat. Thread prawns onto skewers, piercing once near the tail and once near the head. Discard marinade. 4.Lightly oil the barbie. Cook prawns for 2 minutes per side until opaque, basting frequently with reserved marinade. 14

15 My Thoughts. Congrats to our son Daniel he picks up his keys today for his first home! It needs some cosmetic work on the inside, but when he has finished it will be amazing! So happy for him and me his pets will go with him! I know that I will have a very unhappy Gypsy when both Bear and Peter are gone on Saturday night and all she has is me for company. Might be a night to spoil her with some chicken! One more week for Kaitlin to finish Year 12. She has done really well by getting 20 C grades instead of the required 14 to achieve her WACE (WA Certificate of Education). Just a bit of work to go to complete her Certificate 3 in music and that s it! So hard to believe that my baby has grown up so much. Speaking of babies, Kellie is coming down from Paraburdoo in a couple of weeks so we will get to see our Sophie again. Really looking forward to this week or so visit. Sophie turned 8 months old last Wednesday she will be 1 year old before we know it! I hope Father s Day was enjoyed by all. And remember.it will get warm again soon!!!!! Jennie 15
