1 PBA Piranhas Newsletter April/May 2014 Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Renmark Carnival 2014 Swimmers and Nutrition Dietitian, Rhea Bergmann has been invited to come and talk to our PBA families to discuss all those issues and answer all those questions that are often asked around the pool deck by swimmers and parents. What is the best food to eat before and after training? What should I eat at competitions? How soon before a race should I eat? We have 2 timeslots to choose from WEDNESDAY 9th APRIL 6pm OR FRIDAY 2 nd MAY 6pm. The presentation will go for about 45mins and will be held in the Immanuel Pool kitchen. Rhea will be happy to answer your questions, so come prepared! Information sheets will be available for you to take home. There is no charge for this presentation. RSVP to KAREN pba.piranhas.secretary@gmail.com ASAP to advise which day you wish to attend. ** PLEASE NOTE CLOVERCREST SPRINT MEET HAS BEEN CANCELLED ** Chocolate Fundraiser Lili has kindly been on pool deck this week handing out Cadbury chocolate boxes for our very important PBA fundraising. Lili is currently on holidays but will be back at the end of April, so you will have quite a bit of time to on-sell them. Thank you fundraising committee Nominations Please note that with the upgrade of the system method of entry, dates may change. Members will be updated if this should occur once we are notified by Swim SA. Currently all nominations are via the Nominations Officer. 2 Training Schedule December / January Bethan & Caitlin RENMARK The PBA gang Swimmer Profile RHIANNON ALDRIDGE Motivational Quote Take all defeats as temporary setbacks. The road to success is always under construction. There is always room at the top. The swimmer who says, "It can't be done" is passed by the swimmer who is doing it. The will to win is not nearly so important as the will to prepare to win. The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. The future belongs to those who prepare for it. The height of your success is determined by the depth of your belief. The harder you work, the luckier you get. The hardest thing about climbing the ladder of success is getting through the crowd at the bottom. The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond into the impossible. The swimmer that makes the fewest mistakes wins. Trust your hopes, not your fears. Mystery Swimmer What are your interests and hobbies outside of swimming? Socialising with my friends, shopping at Marion, going to the cinema, sleepovers, bowling, basically anything that involves spending money. Name your 4 favourite foods Welsh cakes, prawn cocktail crisps, chicken dinner and chocolate. Describe yourself in 5 words Argumentative, outgoing, bubbly, friendly and considerate. Rhiannon Aldridge What is the best holiday you've ever had and why? There s not one favourite. Some places I have enjoyed were Rhodes, Egypt, Spain, Australia, Florida (there are so many I can t remember them!) One of the most recent holidays was in February 2013 with my best friend Grace from swimming in the UK. We went to Spain before I immigrated to Australia. What occupation would you like to have in the future and why? I am keeping my options open however some jobs I have been considering are a vet, dentist or something in the law industry. I am interested in all three options and the money is good (I hope!). tiffers5@bigpond.net.au First correct answer wins a PBA swim cap Birthdays April 21 st Rhiannon Aldridge (14) 30 th Kimberley Vidura (18) May 17 th Amy O Leary (11) 26 th Mason Jones (14) What is one thing people don t know about you. 3 Greek Lamb 2 medium potatoes, unpeeled & diced 2 large carrots, peeled & diced 1 large onion, quartered 10 cherry tomatoes, halved 2 tablespoons olive oil Tuscan Congratulations seasoning Mixed lettuce leaves Jacklyn Carrington 4 slices multigrain bread, diced 1 tablespoon butter Bronze medal ½ cup light sour cream 1 teaspoon Vegeta chicken stock powder 1 teaspoon minced garlic Henley Jetty to Grange Jetty Open Water 2km Swim ethod Gold medal Henley & Grange West Lakes Challenge Open Water 2.5km Swim January 2014 Serves 6 1.5kg leg of lamb Juice of 2 lemons 1 tablespoon dried oregano 50g butter 3 tablespoons olive oil 4 large potatoes Preheat oven to 220 degrees. Place lamb in large baking dish. Rub the lamb all over with lemon juice, season well with salt and pepper and sprinkle with the oregano. Dot the butter over the top. Pour 1 cup water around the lamb and drizzle the olive oil around it as well. Bake for about minutes on each side, until brown all over. Meanwhile, peel the potatoes and cut them into bite-size pieces. Scatter them in the baking dish around the browned lamb, turning them over with a wooden spoon to coat them in the juice. Add a little more water if evaporated. Cover the baking tray with foil, lower the heat to 180 degrees and bake for 2 ½ hours or so, turning the lamb over at least once during this time and shuffling the potatoes. If the lamb isn t browned enough, remove the foil and cook for a further 30 minutes. Serve warm on a huge platter with a salad or simple cooked greens. This is also nice with some tzatziki on the side. Sarah Clarke Strathalbyn 2014 Jordan Muir Strathalbyn 2014
