2 Shri Alok Sinha, IAS Shri Alok Sinha has taken over as the new President of our Noida Golf Course. A UP cadre IAS officer of 1986 batch, Shri Alok Sinha, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Noida Authority and in this capacity he assumes the president ship of the Noida Golf Club. Concurrently he is also the Principal Secretary, Industrial and Infrastructure Development and NRI Department in the State of UP. This is Shri Sinha s third stint in Noida. He was earlier the Deputy CEO of Noida Authority from 1998 to 1999 and Managing Director of Footwear Design and Development Institute, Noida for five years, from November 1999 to Later, he severed as Joint Secretary in the Civil Aviation Ministry, Government of India and was the Chairman of Airports Authority of India in We in Noida Golf Course are most fortunate to have ShriAlok Sinha as the President. He knows the administration of the Club backwards. He was Secretary of NGC for two years in He is an avid golfer and has been playing on our Course for many years. He is also an enthusiastic Snooker / Billiards player. Shri Alok Sinha was also a national level Bridge player and won the All India Corporate pairs event in 2015 with Ashok Goel as his partner. In his first introductory meeting with the Board members of NGC on 29 April 2017, Shri Sinha has already laid down his priorities for improvements to be brought about in NGC and assigned the tasks to various Board members. His message to all of us is to improve the NGC experience for its members in totality whether it is Golf course, Hospitality, F&B, Entertainment / Fun activities, Aesthetics of the club and behavior of the employees serving in the club. Mrs Preeti Sinha has been associated with Noida Golf Club over the years. She is a proud home maker and a doting mother. They have two daughters, Vaishavi Sinha and Sambhavi Sinha. Vaishavi is a professional golfer turned entrepreneur and Sambhavi is an emerging entrepreneur. Both Mr and Mrs Sinha are fond of animals and have a lovely Labrador as pet. NGC looks forward to his continued direction and guidance to bring about a positive change in up gradation in the quality of services that NGC offers to its members. 3 EDITORIAL Commodore VK Thakur, VSM (Retd) Editor It is my great pleasure and a privilege to set the NGC E News Letter rolling in its digital avatar. Members make the institution what it eventually becomes. Thanks to its membership, NGC has become an envied and sought after Golf Course. A lot is happening regularly at NGC. From PGTI tournaments to JTP programme, golf is the priority at NGC. The golfing traffic at NGC is an envy of courses around. It s a people s course with state of the art golfing facilities. NGC is already one the most happening golfing places in NCR. Our President, Mr. Alok Sinha, IAS has expressed his keen desire to create a platform for members interaction and a common medium for disseminating information to all members to keep them up to date with the progress, development and facilities at their home course. We at NGC took up the challenge and I am glad to record that with the help and keen response from our members it has been possible to release the NGC E News Letter with its first issue being released on July 01, E News is envisaged as a platform for Interaction among members and to keep its members up-to date about the programmes and developments taking place regularly at NGC. The NGC E News is one such platform which has been envisaged to cater to this need to sustain a vibrant membership fraternity of NGC. The E News will be a monthly, which will release on the first day of each month. It is heartening to share that our E News Letter at NGC will be digital and it will be at no cost to NGC. This has been planned to be in tune with the awareness of environment protection by reduc- ing the need for paper. The News Letter will also have a video section which will carry whenever available, a one minute about 500 kb video clips relating to Golf. This News Letter is envisaged as a medium to create a forum for participatory membership and the smooth running and implementation of the programme of NGC. Members are requested to contribute to their own News Letter and I urge all to spare 10 minutes in a month to go through the issues and help to improve the quality and content with your participation which will always be welcome. We request all departments in NGC to send the write ups on their respective area of operations, by the 20th of ensuing month, for perusal of the Edit Team. Just in case there is no report the Edit Team will report the events to the best of its ability Members are requested to send their contributions on a wide range of subjects like golf, news, music, health, fitness, general wellbeing, club events, photography, travel, fashion etc. Articles and contributions can be directly sent to General Manager NGC or to the Editor and should not exceed 500 words. Of course, the Edit Board reserves the right to edit or carry the contribution as the case may be. I thank our President Shri Alok Sinha, IAS for his visionary guidance in paving the way for creating an interactive digital forum for members of Noida Golf Course. Let us join hands to welcome the E News Letter and carry it to levels where it becomes a live digital magazine which will add to the brilliance of membership experience at NGC. 4 NGC Health Club It doesn t cost a lot to keep you healthy and fit. It is true that while exercising may not ensure you a longer life, it can, most certainly, ensure you a happier and healthier life. The joys of a compact and firm body that moves with ease, grace and agility can be yours if you sufficiently exercise all parts of the body. An average of minutes of exercise in a day should be just enough to keep you in a tremendous shape. Noida Golf Club offers you a Health Club at low subscription rates. It is well equipped with modern gadgets and machines. It also has provision for Yoga and aerobic training classes. There are plans to further bring in more improvements and install more machines and the likes. Presently, we have over 300 members and their families who patronize this Health Club on regular basis. 5 Special Health Training for Golfers. This month, we wish to tell our members how important it is to prepare your body before a round of golf or a work out session. As the human beings get older, this become more and more important as the body looses suppleness with age. There are a few points that should be addressed during body prep work. (a) Muscle quality should be maintained by doing form rolloing and regular massages. This is important to take out the knots from our muscles. These knots get tighter if you stretch them (b) Muscle length should be regained before we use them to play golf or to work out. This should be done by holding stretch for all cast is records. (c) Muscle temperature should be obtained by doing simple dynamic movements without losing form or balance. Once a person has attained muscle quality, muscle length and muscle temperature the body is ready for more strenuous activity. By Amit Dube, Golf Pro 5

6 From the Desk of Chairman, JTP Sub Committee The Junior Training Programme Committee in its endeavor to promote golf amongst juniors in Noida has started a scholarship and sponsorship program. The scholarship program has been started to encourage children of all categories. The JTP Committee wishes to sponsor a girl & boy in each category to participate in an international golf tournament. These children will be chosen from the cumulative result of all the JTP Tournaments held during the calendar year provided the scoring average of the child is zero or better. The Tournaments earmarked are category A, B & C Boys & Girls will play true visions world championship in Thailand and category D & E Boys & Girls will play us kids world championship in Malaysia. The Sponsorship programme is our endeavor to promote golf amongst under privileged children by reaching out to the schools in the vicinity of MGC to sending their fittest 11 year from the EWS category old girls and 12 years old boys, for tests to NGC. The fittest boys and 5 fittest girls will be given complete training over the next 5 years. The monetary help required will be requested from companies in NOIDA under their CSR Initiatives. So, juniors please look out! 6

7 The NGC Practice Range By Shri Yogen Jethi, Chairman Practice Range SC The Range held a promotional event on the 11th of March for the launch of the Callaway fire driver. Every registered member got an assured prize from Callaway during this event. The Range will be hosting no such promotional events in the coming future. The Driving Range at NGC has seen a huge transformation in the last one year. A flier being shut due to safety reasons for a couple of years is reopened in November of We are now equipped with 30 meter high nets and is also flood lit till 9.00 p.m. The Range has been leased out to Sure Golf and the vendor has made the range operational from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm. We are happy to report that on an average about 250 golfers both young and old use this Practice Range everyday with great enthusiasm and in the hope they will soon become pros. We wish them good luck. We are also happy to report that we have on our panel almost 20 qualified coaches who help training the budding golfers daily. The NGC has changed the flooring recently to a better snobbier surface and target nets and target flags have been added. Supply of balls have increased in quality and quantity drastically. The Range is also open to hitting from the grass between 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm. 7

8 NGC Caddies and Caddy Welfare By Mr. Yogen Jethi (Chairman Caddy Welfare) We are happy to report that there are over 400 caddies available at NGC who assist and help members/guests to play and enjoy golf daily. A very large number of these caddies have served the members over decades and are well trained. A caddy/member tournament was held in November 2016 where the caddies were given cash prizes and other attractive prizes. Members of NGC came forward to support this noble cause and helped us make this tournament a great success. Every participant was given a prize and were provided breakfast and lunch The team was selected through a trial. The team members were Ravi Sharma, Amandeep Haldar and Deepak Haldar. Our NGC team won the Hamoni Golf Dan gallery held in April 2017 at Hamoni Golf Academy at Gurgaon. The team members were Ravi Sharma, Sukhdev Singh, Vivek Chaudhary and Ravinder Yadav. It has been our constant endeavor to ensure Caddy welfare on regular basis. They are well kitted up with Tee shirts, shoes, Jackets etc. from time to time. The team of NGC caddies under the able guidance of Mr. Yogen Jethi, Chairman Driving Range, Caddy Welfare stood 2nd at the DLF ALL INDIA CADDY TOURNA- MENT held at DLF Golf Course in January 8

9 F & B and Hospitality The NGC Hospitality Division is doing a marvelous job through concerted efforts over a period of time. During the last year the Coffee Shop, we call it the DECK, the Restaurant and the main Bar Room have all been renovated to amazing standards. Members describe these public rooms as high class now, with all modern furniture and fittings. The Club management is happy to note that all these public rooms are well patronized by members. The Club holds a Members Nite on all Wednesday eveningswith good music, food and ambience. The evenings are really well enjoyed by the members and their families who come in overwhelming numbers The food is very delicious and of high quality. The service is good, yet it is our constant endeavor to improve it. NGC has a sprawling banquet hall which is popularly utilized for wedding receptions and the like. It has adjoining expansive lawns and provide a perfect ambience for big celebrations. The capacity is well over 1000 guests. 9

10 Noida Golf Course Members and Membership Pattern By Shri Yogen Jethi, NGC is proud to inform that it has nearly 5000 members on its rolls at present. The various categories are; Regular 4540, NRI 29, Non- Golfing 256, Corporate 61 and Temporary 16. The normal waiting time to get membership is in the region of 6-7 years. However, the following schemes are available to seek membership outside the normal waiting time of regular membership, As a very special gesture, the Management had released 100 memberships in the regular category during the last year and 50 in the Tatkal category, (35 still available) To exceed the overall membership number of 5000, NGC has to be extremely judicious, keeping in mind the stress it will have on the overall capacity and facilities on the Club. (a) Transfer of membership from regular members to new members at Rs 12 Lac for Civilians and Rs 5 Lac for Govt. category plus ST. (b) Corporate membership at Rs 12 Lac for 5 years. (c) Tatkal membership at Rs 15 Lac. 10

11 The Captain's Cup Tournament 12, 13 & 14 May 2017 This Tournament was held over a period of three days, mainly to accommodate a whopping 400 participants. The Captain s Cup Tournament denotes the culmination of the golfing season of the year prior to setting in of the summer months, as is the practice in all Golf Clubs. 12 We had two co-sponsors who looked after mainly the prizes for the year s Medal Rounds and the Captain s Cup. They were GODREJ PROPERTIES and GOLFING NATION. The Captain thanked them profusely for their support. Commodore VK Thakur (Retd) the Golf Captain gave away the prizes as also did the others. The finale of the tournament was the memorable Cocktails & Dinner that was termed as splendid. Overall, a Great Evening. The Greens played exceedingly well and so did the fairways. He thanked the Ground Staff headed by Supervisors Sunil Jha and Harender Sharma. Captain also thanked abundantly the other golfing staff, including Caddy Master, Gangasharan and Dwarka; the Starters Shiv Dutt, Kishan, Kaushik and Sandip, and of course the Course Marshals Jairam and Mukesh, for the dedicated work they had all done over the year. The Captain made a special mention of thanks to Shri Arshad Jamal, the guy who works behind the scene with great sense of dedication and commitment on Handicapping and the complete work on tournaments. 13 The British conquered Delhi in 1803 and wrested control of the Red Fort and a helpless Mughal Emperor Shah Alam. Interestingly, few people realize that this critical Battle for the control of Delhi and therefore, India was fought in Noida with the centre point being the famous Noida Golf Course. The monument we see on the 7th Fairway was the focal point and it is understood that the area in and around in the Golf Course was where the formidable battle took place. Near this spot was fought on 11th September 1803 the battle of Delhi in which the forces of the Marathas commanded by M. Louis Bourouien were defeated by the British Army under General Gerard Lake. This battle has been included in a book, Battles for Delhi -Dilli Kareeb Ast, which covers the history of Delhi over 700 years in which 13 battles were fought. The first set of battles was at Tarain where after getting defeated first, the Turkic forces of Mohammed Ghori defeated the Rajputs under Prithviraj Chauhan and led to the establishment of the Islamic Sultanate in India. Twelve other battles were fought between Turks, Afghans, Rajputs, Mughals, Marathas and British in turn. The last battle is the legendary 1857 War of Independence that almost threw the British out of our country. Monument of the Battle of Delhi on 11th September 1803 on NGC 7th Fairway. Battle At Noida In 1803 Led To British Capture Of Delhi Can t Imagine the Rich History of Noida Golf Club. The battle of interest to NGC members and residents of Noida is the one fought on 11 September 1803 between rivers Hindon and Yamuna with the tall grassy field, of what is now Noida, as the nerve point of the battle. The Marathas at that time controlled most of South, West, Central and North India. The British controlled East India, eastern half of UP, areas around Mumbai and Mysore. Each wanted to win the whole of India. On 11 September, 18the British moved towards Delhi crossing Hindon under Lord Lake. The Marathas crossed Yamuna under Louis Burquoin. There was a pitched battle fought and the struggle occurred between Nizamuddin bridge and Noida Golf Course. The initial advantage lay with the Marathas who successfully led the British into artillery trap. But led by a less able general, the Marathas got over-excited and rushed forward impetuously into a waiting trap and defeat. The British rode victoriously into Delhi, and it took 144 years for the patriots to drive away the British and wrest our freedom. Next time you Tee off the 7th or ride by or fly over NGC do pause to reminisce the meaning of independence of our motherland and ours and for those who paid with their life to make it happen. 14 The Ladies Section of the Noida Golf Course International Forum and we participated and celebrated the World Women s Golf Day on 6th June This was founded on 17th Dec. 1996, by the then chairperson of Noida Authority Ms. Usha Chatrath, an avid golfer herself, with just a handful of ladies (about 10-12). Today, the section has grown by leaps and bounds; it has become healthy and strong with about hundred, playing and non playing members.. The year ends with the Lady Captain s Day. This year it was held on 05th May 2017, An There was a 9 Hole Green some for the first half, the winning team was of Mrs. Renu J P Singh and Mrs. June Chaudhary. Runners up team comprised of Dr. Sheela Bedi and Ms. Ananya Rakheja. 18 Hole, Tournament was organized and despite the bristling heat the participants enjoyed the game. Later, Prizes were given away for the Monthly Medal Rounds, Match Play and the Tournament held on that day. Our Little Anya Jethi walked away with the Captain s Cup and Ms. Neelam Anand Saxena was a close second. Our Calendar year started with a BANG. Our section got registered on Ms. Nalini Singh, one of our Ex Captain, a professional golfer and Director for Women s Pro Tour and officiate for PGTI an IGU, gave a very informative talk on rules and regulations of golf. Thanks to the support of my untiring, superbly talented and very efficient team, comprising of Kiran Chaudhary, Madhu Sharma, Seema Singh, Billy Kohli, Faryal Shadab and last but not the least Neelam Anand Saxena.
