As one of the strongest ways to advertise, referrals bring the Club knowledgeable, enthusiastic prospects. These prospects are ahead of the game for one main reason: YOU. That s because referrals are based on the foundation of a relationship. The relationship you have with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors is more reliable than words in print. They trust you. They value your opinion. And most often they have been your guest on the course or in the Club and have seen irsthand the wonderful, one of a kind experience offered here at Dakota Dunes Country Club. Well, the pot has been sweetened. Not only will you help grow your Club, but you will receive an account credit when you refer someone new! How much of an account credit? The value is equal to one month of the new member s dues. How does it work? Your referral meets with Jessica to become a new member. They inform her that you referred them to the Club. When the new member pays their irst month dues, the Club will credit your account for the same amount of their irst month dues! Please note, this referral program is for new members joining the Club and does not include a current member upgrading their membership or a past member rejoining. The Referral Program will run from October 1, 2014 through March 31, There is no limit to the number of referrals you bring in, so spread the word. The more you refer, the more you earn! Over 50 new memberships along with a very high retention rate of existing members. Throw in the patio and the ierce completion for the labor force in the area; what a making for disaster. Then, what about the competition for tee times from the additional members on a course that was plagued by winter kill from a cold dry winter, a very slow start in the spring and a dif icult time getting a foot hold from the cool wet summer. Now it is the 1 st of October and by year end the course will have seen a record number of rounds, the Food and Beverage operation will have served close to, if not a record number of meals, and the membership is at a level not seen sense the roaring 90s. In all honesty, this has been a trying year for all the management team and staff. Moving forward will require ongoing and greater attention to service for the membership. The goal of management and staff is to get it right every time. This requires the club to have the right people in positions to make it happen. This also requires enough personnel to do the job ef iciently without the burn out factor; so we will have the unending task of attracting employees to the club. All of the success this year is due to the dedicated management and staff of Dakota Dunes Country Club. Please take a moment the next time you visit your club to acknowledge the staff and let them know they are appreciated. After all, a smile on their face will go a long ways to putting a smile on yours. The ladies Championship was won by the Host, University of South Dakota with a narrow margin over Drake University.

4 Justin Arlt Head PGA Professional We just completed hosting our irst ever NCAA DIVISION 1 golf event at your Country Club. Sixteen teams from all over Midwest were truly blown away by the facilities, the course and the experience. The University of Nebraska Omaha won the Men s Crown over North Dakota State University. The ladies Championship was won by the Host, University of South Dakota with a narrow margin over Drake University. The individual ladies Crown was won by South Dakota s very own Breanna Larvick who posted scores of 72/77/77 from 6200 yards. Including the par 5 s from our Blue tees!! Yes guys..the blue tees!! The men s division was ultra competitive with three players tying with scores of 72/70/79 for a +7 event total. Course knowledge proved to be an advantage with each player s coach having previously been golf professionals at Dakota Dunes in the past. Our third place inisher Jacob Dehne from North Dakota was led by Tim Swanson a previous golf professional at DDCC. Our runner up was Geno Kearl III from the University of Wisconsin Greenbay who was led by Tim DeSormeao who was one of Dakota Dunes irst Golf Professionals. Our overall Champion was John Spellberg from Creighton University who won it all in a FIVE hole playoff over the other two players mentioned. His coach Chris Weimers did an internship here at DDCC in the late 90 s. This event of icially capped the 2014 tournament season that included 33 total tournaments in 5 months. As the seasons continue to change, the golf course remains in beautiful condition The Dakota Dunes Golf Shop is fully prepared to help keep you warm. Seasonable apparel from companies like, Ashworth, Travis Mathew & Addidas are in the Golf Shop. Many of these items would make excellent Holiday gifts for family and friends! Remember to utilize your member discounts and credit book dollars between now and December 1 st and be ready for the Halloween Golf Sale on Saturday, October 1 th from :00 5:00. This will be a great chance to use your shop credit and take advantage of prices so low it s SCARY!!!! The month of October still has some great golf days for everyone to take advantage of. We have certainly hit the two minute warning in the fourth quarter of our golf season. The days are getting shorter and the warm part of the day will certainly continue to be popular. For this reason we recommend the use of Tee Times and calling ahead to make a reservation as usual. Golf Shop Hours Tuesday Sunday 8:30am 6:00pm MURDER MYSTERY Saturday, October 25 at 8:00pm Banquet Room We set the scene at the Chamber of Screams Haunted House. The Haunted House employees gather for a Halloween party but before the party ends, someone ends up dead! Cost to attend is $15++ and includes appetizers. There are 16 main roles and unlimited other roles which will have a minimal role or no role at all! Room for everyone. The more who attend; the more fun it is! DON T FORGET! Golf Shop Credits, Sweeps and Certi icates are redeemable until December 1, All prize money will be eliminated from accounts after this date!

When the South Dakota Quaking Aspen decide that it is fall, the leaves continue to drop at all hours of the day. Ironically, they have been dropping since the irst week of August.

Please bear with us and enjoy the great fall weather each and every day that you can.

When the South Dakota Quaking Aspen decide that it is fall, the leaves continue to drop at all hours of the day. Ironically, they have been dropping since the irst week of August. We continuously do what we can through-out any given day around what has been a very busy tee sheet on virtually every day. Please bear with us and enjoy the great fall weather each and every day that you can. We continue to work on getting our heads around what has become one of the most controversial issues here at Dakota Dunes. It is none other than the tree and canopy issue throughout the golf course. Green sites are just like your favorite real estate agent always says location, location, location. Early morning light is critical with regard to the bentgrass we have here at Dakota Dunes. One would assume it would be a tree on the east side of a given green site, but, more often than not it is going to be on the north side which impedes light as the sun moves from east to west. Invariably this is why turf conditions improve here in the fall as the leaves fall and the axis the sun moves upon is further south. Think in terms of holes six, thirteen, or nine all of a sudden the sun is moving right down those fairways and up upon the greens. The other elephant in the room is root pressure competing with the turf. As evidenced when we aire ied fairways in September, the tines either plug with roots or spit out a tube of wood. Fourteen, thirteen, seven, and one tees come to mind or ten, twelve, thirteen, six, and ifteen fairways. In all cases these areas have been root pruned with either a trencher or a knife numerous times. In most all cases the canopies or high work has also been done. If one takes the time to look up from the fairway bunker on nine west towards the green you will note there aren t many branches towards the fairway. As we move towards Halloween we will be making fall applications where required to store carbohydrates within the turf stand to help us get through the winter. Where ever we don t have turf cover we will take advantage of the cooler weather and solid sod any bare areas out on the golf course. Don t forget as the days continue to get shorter we will be facing more and more frost delays in the morning hours delaying your round for the day. We look forward to seeing you folks out on the golf course.

We ve been fortunate to bring in a lot of new staff and retain some of our stars. Alisha will be staying through the holidays and Rebekah has returned. Both Jackie and Jim have made the Terrace their new home and the Munoz sisters Carolina and Maria have become solid contributors while Josh and Ryan continue to keep your Spirits up. You ll see several other new and old faces but the battle has not yet been won. Starting this month we ll be beginning some intense training of our staff to insure you of the highest levels of speed and service possible. We appreciate your patience through this period and know you ll welcome the results. We kicked off our Side Line Grub Menu and Bucket O Beers on Saturdays and Sundays. This means, you will have some food options on Sunday and the patio will be open until 7:00pm. This offering is on a trial run, so please let us know how you are enjoying it! A new menu is currently in the works. We will be beginning the new menu towards the latter half of October. Chef will be changing your lunch, dinner and breakfast menus for the fall/ winter season. We are pleased to announce that Dustin Dillon has been hired as the Sous Chef at the Club. Dustin worked at the Club prior as Head Line Cook. We are excited to have Dustin back and in his new position! Coming in October we will again be offering a weekly drink feature. Stay tuned! We ll see you around the Club. 7 CELEBRATE FALL FREE TO COMPETE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2014 Fall Festival at Dakota Dunes Country Club Do you have the best chili around? The 1st Annual Dakota Dunes Chili Cook Off will put your chili to the test! Three categories are available Traditional, Spicy and Creative. Official Rules: 1. Contestants may submit one entry per category. 2. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize for each category. 3. Chili is to be brought ready to eat. Contestants must provide a minimum of four (4) quarts of chili per entry. Contestants are responsible for providing their own ladle and crock pot or warmer and maintain the proper temperature for serving. 4. Each contestant will be assigned a contestant s number. 5. Judging will be done based on scorecards from a panel of judges and attendants of the festival. 80% of the final tally will be from the judges scores and 20% will be scorecards from people s choice. 8 October 2: Zumba Returns 9:00am Rec Center Rick Pruett Activities Coordinator October will be a fun and exciting month at the Country Club. Make sure to check out all the events and plan to attend as many as you can. Kid s activities are planned for Friday, October 3 rd and Friday, October 24 th. Bring the kids over for some crafts and games. The fun will take place over at the Rec Center from 10:00am 12:00pm. No lunch will be served and there is no cost to attend. Men s Poker league starts on Tuesday, October 7 th and will run for 11 weeks. Try your hand at this fun league. Cost to play is $110 with payouts for top 4 inishers every week, and a inal table payout for top 4 inishers. League is held in the Palmer on Tuesday night s beginning at 7:00pm following the irst two weeks which start at 7:30pm. We had a great kick off to Ladies Fun Night in September with the fashion show. In October ladies fun night will return on the 8 th and 29 th, with some fun activities. October 8 th will be game night, come play cards, dice and many more games. October 29 th will be a Pampered Ladies Night. Drink a glass of wine and get a manicure or a massage. Ladies you will not want to miss these fun nights. Call or Rick to sign up for the Oct 29 th pampered night. October 12 th will the Dakota Dunes Fall Festival. This year our festival will be open to the Dunes community and sponsored with Dakota Dunes Community Association. We have a lot of fun activities planned. Games and prizes for kids, activities for all ages. We will have in latables, a petting zoo, and a fun hay ride. All the activities will take place at the country club by the tennis courts. Come and enjoy a day of fun from 3:00pm 6:00pm. Look for the posters with all the activities for the day! Murder Mystery is back! October 25 th will be the day for you to come be a part of the murder mystery. Our theme for this mystery is Homicide on Halloween at the Chamber of Scream Haunted House. You must sign up to attend. Please or call Rick by Wednesday, October 15 th to be a part of the murder mystery. Check out all of our itness classes at the club. Marsha s Step class, Karen s Cardio, try your hand at Carol s Toning class and back in October is Zumba with Melissa Strong. Check out our Rec. Center calendar with all the schedules. In planning for this drive, we wanted to offer a great introductory offer while bringing back the stair step towards the Equity price in comparison to the locked in rate. As we roll out another offer, we ask you to remember the Club as a whole and it s future. We understand there are different rates offered and as loyal, long term members it may be hard to sallow a lower rate offer for new folks. Keep in mind that these are introductory rates and in these times, this is how we develop equity members. The retention rate from the Golf Non Equity to Equity is unbelievably high the past two years close to 100%! Activities ramp up this month. Party on the Patio with NEW live music on Friday kicks it all off and Murder Mystery returns! We encourage you to bring guests. It is a great chance for them to see what the Club offers!
