3 From the General Manager A recent article in Private Club Magazine reports that many people today are confronted with how to balance work, family and community. Blackberries, PDAs, laptops, cell phones and wireless internet enable us to sneak off to the gym or grocery store mid-afternoon without guilt - if anyone needs to reach us, they can - but these same technologies that free us from our desks also expand our job s intrusion in our lives. The lines between the workday, workweek and weekend blur as our accessibility increases. More and more people find a private club is just the outlet they need to deal with life s stress. They find their club is a venue to make business connections and build substantial relationships with energetic, like-minded individuals. Members find their club to be the PERFECT mix between business and pleasure and they develop a network amongst other club members based on friendship and trust. I ENCOURAGE all members to take advantage of this under-utilized club BENEFIT by visiting the Brickyard often. Please mention these benefits when you talk with your colleagues, family and friends! Everyone could use LESS STRESS in their lives! Once again, I encourage you to refer one person for membership TODAY. 6 Golf News Driving Range and Practice Green Update The driving range and practice greens are for the use of the members and their guest. The driving range and practice greens may be used by members during normal hours of operation. Guests must be accompanied by a member when using these practice facilities to prepare for their round of golf. *The range closes 2 hours before dark on Sunday to enable the range to be mowed on Monday.* The putting green adjacent to #1 tee and behind the outdoor pavilion are for practice putting only. (Please do not chip to the greens.) The chipping green with the bunker next to the outdoor pavilion may be used for chipping from the grass around the green, as well as from the bunker next to the green. Please rake the bunker after you complete your practice and return the balls to the practice bucket so it will be ready for the next person to practice. 7 Golf News A Note from your Course Superintendent W ow has it been hot!!! Those temperatures have been up there with the heat indexes being over 100. I would like to take this time to thank my staff for working hard under these extreme conditions. They are doing an excellent job and they are keeping the course in superb condition. The Golf Maintenance staff are; Nathan Caffarelli Assistant Superintendent, Harold Finney-Team Leader/Irrigation Tech, Sisongkanh Thalongsenhchanh(Ett) Greenskeeper, Phouthavong Phinith(Ed) Greenskeeper, Marc Almond-Master Mechanic, Quinterious Clyde part time Greenskeeper, and Joseph Faletto part time Greenskeeper. They do an outstanding job in all weather conditions and I am very proud of them. The course would not be in such good condition without their dedication and hard work. Thanks! I have had some questions come my way about the process of changing the pin locations each week. For the last several years, we came up with a rotation that is best for us and best for the playability of the greens. We change the pins three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. We rotate three zones, starting each Tuesday with a new zone. For example, if this week we start on Tuesday using zone 1, then next Tuesday we would use zone 2. This ensures that a different zone is used on those specific days for at least three weeks. When we change the pins, we try to find the best playable surface in the designated zone without making it too difficult. If we were to change the pins more often, this would cause us to have a LOT of old plugs in those zones and a bad playing surface. As with a lot of things we do, this schedule is also dependent on the weather and any events / maintenance practices at the time. I hope this has cleared up the process. Hope to see you all on the course. It s really beautiful out here! We Need Your Help!! Please repair ball marks on green. Rake bunkers after your shot. Use 90 degree rule (it helps fairways). Please register yourself and guests before going out to play golf. Please check with Jim Hickman or Carl McNeill before playing a five-some. Thanks and happy golfing! Member and Guest Reminders Guest Fee Structure: Guest passes (3 passes per month for $45) are monthly and cannot be rolled over; they must be used in the month assigned and cannot be moved from future months to present month. After the 3 passes are used for the month, additional guest must pay $79.97 (including tax) per guest. Members must play with guests in order to take advantage of this special rate. If a member is not playing with the guest, a fee of $ plus tax will be charged. Any previous members who have resigned within the last 24 months are not eligible to take advantage of these special rates; they will be charged the regular rate of $ Driving Range: The driving range is for the use of members and guests while playing golf. Guests who are not playing golf are not allowed in the driving range without the permission of the General Manager or Golf Professional. The putting greens (behind the pavilion and tee box #1) are for putting only. Chipping is only allowed from bunkers to the greens not from the grass areas to the greens. 9 Youth Activities Brickyard s Summer Camp 2015 It s another year and another summer to sign your children up for the 2015 Brickyard Summer Camp. There will be a bunch of crafts and activities to keep your children and grandchildren entertained during the summer. Weeks of Camp for July Week 5 (June 29-July 3): Mystery Week Week 6 (July 6-10): Space Week Week 7 (July 13-17): Sports Week Week 8 (July 20-24): Literary Week Week 9 (July 27-31): Art Week This year we are offering a new half day this year for some of younger campers or those that just want to have some morning fun. The half day will run from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm; please let Rebecca know if you need to pick up your child earlier. Pool Rules and Regulations Members and guests are PROHIBITED from using the pool when unattended or when swimming alone. Children shall not use the pool unless accompanied by an ADULT. All children (3 years old or younger) and any child not potty trained must wear appropriate swimwear (snug-fitting plastic pants or water resistant swim diapers). No food, drinks or wrappers are permitted within ten (10) feet of the swimming pool. No glass containers are allowed in or around the pool deck. No running, jumping, rough-housing or horseplay is allowed. No spitting, spouting of water from the mouth or nose blowing in the pool. Appropriate swimwear must be worn (no cut-off shorts). No swimming is allowed during heavy rain, thunderstorms, or lightening (whether seen or heard). Always enter the pool feet first; no diving in shallow end of pool. Common courtesies should be used at all times when in the pool area. Pool Attendants and Club Managers have complete authority at all time. Disregard of their instructions and requests by anyone will be dealt with immediately.
