The 2009 Junior Four State Team made Nebraskans proud when they finished first at the Four State Junior Girl s Competition at Mission Hills Country Club in Kansas City, Missouri. This is the first time since 2003 Nebraska has been able to bring the celebration back to the good life. Members of the Nebraska team were chosen using the junior ranking system. This year s team members are: Danielle Lemek of Doniphan, McKayla Anderson of Fremont, Nicole Mooberry of Norfolk, Stephanie Rodgers of Unadilla, and captain s choice McKenzie O Connell of Sidney. Thank you to all of the tournament chairs of this year s events. They not only made the events successful but also helped raise significant money to assist NWAGA s efforts to promote junior girls and collegiate women s golf in Nebraska. Thank you to Sarah Hannon, this year s P.J. Boatwright intern. Sarah was an active, efficient, and pleasant presence at all of our events this summer; we wish her luck in her future endeavors and hope that she continues to have an active involvement with NWAGA whether as a player or a volunteer. There are not adequate words to properly thank the outgoing Executive Board members, Bobbie Hopp, Kay Brown, Kay Bowman, Teressa Yung, Jean Gamerl, and Lisa Poorman and Tournament Chairpersons, Laura Saf and Yvonne Davenport. They are all to be commended for the jobs they have done for NWAGA and for the tremendous amount of time and wisdom they have given to the organization. It is difficult to imagine NWAGA as successful as it is without the gifts each of them brought to the organization. Thank you also to our Executive Director, Johnna Rathje, for working so hard to see that our events run smoothly, for keeping our web site up-to-date and informative, for assisting with the junior girls program, and for efficiently managing the NWAGA office. The 2010 tournament season for NWAGA is set, and while dates for some events may vary from recent years, there will be no substantive changes in tournament formats. Our tournament sites include courses that have frequently partnered with NWAGA as well as courses hosting their first NWAGA events. What will be new for 2010 is much of the make-up of the NWAGA Executive Board. Speaking for myself and new Board members, I would like to say that we are excited, if not a touch nervous, to be taking on these new roles. Speaking for all of the Board, I want to let the membership know that we intend to be responsive to our membership and are anxious to do all that we can to promote and conserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf for all women in the state of Nebraska. Meet 2009 P.J. Boatwright Intern, Sarah Hannon Sarah Hannon of York was the 2009 P.J. Boatwright intern for NWAGA. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University where she competed on the women s golf team for four years. Sarah has played golf competitively since high school and is excited to compete in tournaments again after her internship with NWAGA. This internship has taught me a lot, and I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a great organization. Post-internship plans are to pursue a career with her degree in sports management. I would like to thank the USGA, Bobbie, Johnna, and the Board for everything they have done for me this summer. It was a pleasure working with all of you this summer, and I can t wait to see you on the course next summer.
