The correct winners in our First Flight Championship Division were: 1st. Place Low Gross: 1st. Place Low Net: Carolyn Suh Donna Bulhuis The Second Stage of our EWGA Championship Series took place on Saturday, August 23rd. at Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Our chapter was represented by our fine local winners. Special Kudos for all Chicago Metro Chapter Championship Winners that went on to represent us at Sectionals: Scramble Team (Dorothy McElligot, Becky Mayhew, Sue Miller, and Shirley Brown) took 2nd Low Net loosing by only 1 stroke CALENDAR September 21, 2008 Fall Finale - Oak Meadows - Addison September 28, 2008 Prairie Cup - Whisper Creek Golf Club - Huntley More details coming soon on all events! Chicago Metro Chapter What a busy month July has been with two JustGolf events, The Chapter Bash and the Chapter Championship. We had record numbers participating in all these events this year Thank You All! And a big thank you to all members and the Board Members who have organized the events. Without the dedication and extra efforts of our members these events would not be the successes they were. On July 11 th our Chapter participated in Play Golf America Days at Lake Bluff Golf Course. We helped at registration and distributed information about our EWGA Chapter. Well over a hundred participants and families attended clinics, club demos and golf for children activities. It was an incredible day. Thank you to Lake Bluff Golf Course and Illinois PGA for running such a great event. Recently we have had questions about how to contact other Chicago EWGA members. We distributed EWGA Chicago Metro directories at the Kick-Off and have tried to distribute the rest to members through Leagues. Remember, the directories are for use only by our members and may not be used for business purposes or advertising. If you did not get your directory and still would like one, please Laurie Taylor at membership@chicagometro.org to make arrangements to pick yours up. In the meantime to reach a new member, you can obtain contact information on the National EWGA Website, At the top of the page, click on Member Log In. Then on the login page, click the login tab, enter your member number as your Member ID number and your password, click sign-in. At the top of the page, click on Membership Directory and search the person s name you would like to reach. We have busy times coming up in August and September. We have Chapter Officer Elections, The very popular North-South Challenge, The Fall Finale Celebration Golf Event, Our First Ever Prairie Cup with the Rockford EWGA Chapter and JustGolf events. We are also starting to plan our HOLIDAY PARTY.if you would like to help with our Winter Chapter Event in December, please Emma Anderson at socialevents@ewgachicago.org. Many hands for just one or two hours make a great party! Please me ( president@ewgachicago.org ) if you would like to be a member of one of our Chapter Committees for next year. Our committees are membership, Golf Events, communication (Web or Newsletter), Education/New Player Development, Handicap, Leadership/Volunteers, or Leagues. We are particularly interested in expanding opportunities for new golfers and mentoring golfers. Please let me know if you could help with this area. See you on the course! Alice Davitt

3 EWGA Upcoming Events Page 3 The Fall Finale / Rally for A Cure All leagues are encouraged to enter one or more scramble teams. Remember handicaps will be used to equalize the field. Or, if players don't want to compete in the league competition, please encourage to still sign up. The event is a scramble. The event is on Sunday September 21 at the Oak Meadows Golf Course in Addison. The cost is $87.00 and includes 18-holes cart, contest and prizes and dinner. The Prairie Cup Event Please register for our First Annual Prairie Cup Event to be held at Whisper Creek Golf Club in Huntley, Illinois. September 28, This is our first combined event with EWGA Rock River Chapter. We have limited tee-times. Therefore, don't wait. Since our events have been full this year, please register and save your spot. Price includes tee-times, riding cart and prizes: $ Format: Stroke play. Go on line and register as soon as possible. Troon Hole in One Club Troon Golf Hole-In-One Club offers EWGA members who make a Hole-in-One at either an 18- or 9- hole EWGA sanctioned event a complimentary round of golf for four at a Troon Golf facility; long recognized as the best the game has to offer. The complimentary foursome is available Monday-Thursday anytime or Friday-Sunday after 12:00 p.m. and subject to availability. Eligibility for the Troon Golf Hole-in-One Club, includes being a EWGA member-in-good standing. To receive the reward, send a copy of the scorecard, attested by playing partners and verified by the club's golf professional, as well as the yardage of the hole and the golf club used to: EWGA Headquarters: Attn. Troon Golf Hole-in-One. There is also a commemorative award from The Ad Solution and recognition in the Troon Golf Hole-in-One Club within the Membership area in the EWGA website.

4 GolfTec Tips By Ryan Colberg Page 4 If you are one of the millions of golfers that have tried a new fix for their golf swing, but the fix didn t last, try re-examining your practice routine. Ask yourself, "Do I have a lesson plan?" Is there a point to your practice? Before your next practice session, take a few minutes and think about what you are going to work on that day. Then write it down in a small notebook and put it into your golf bag. When you go practice take out that notebook and keep it where you can see it. This will help keep you focused on that one thing during your practice session. After the session, take five minutes to summarize in your notebook the effectiveness of your practice. You are in effect grading yourself, so be honest but fair. Then put it back in your golf bag to review and write down new results at your next practice. If after a few sessions you don't see the type of improvement you would like, don t change what you are working on, rather how you are practicing. You may find that you have not done a drill slowly enough or you might find that a different drill would be more effective. It's been said before, but it bears repeating: "Plan your practice and practice your plan." Register Now for the Callaway Team Challenge Being Held September 26th in Aloha, OR Approximately 50% of women golfers have handicaps of 28 or higher. Even if you didn't qualify for the EWGA Championship Finals, you can still join in on the fun and excitement at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha, OR this Fall! Friends and family of EWGA Championship competitors: Join us at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club, show your support of fellow golfers and still get a piece of the golf action at the 2008 EWGA Championship presented by Callaway Golf by participating in the Callaway Team Challenge. The Callaway Team Challenge, a 2-person team best ball event, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2008 and is open to all EWGA members, non-members and guests. Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. A USGA handicap index is NOT required. Registration fee of $ includes greens fee, cart, range balls, welcome gift and awards buffet dinner. Register online at member log-in, Events & Orders tab. 5 EWGA Membership Information Page 5 Delivery of EWGA Membership Cards and Kits The 2008 membership cards/bag tags are sent from the mail house each month via Presort Standard mail. Members receive their member card within 2-5 weeks after their dues payment is processed, assuming they have confirmed their correct address from their confirmation . The 2008 membership kits (which includes the Member Guide Your Playbook for Everything EWGA and other items depending on the membership level), are also mailed each month to members who have joined/renewed n the previous month. Remember: a temporary membership card is printed at the bottom of the confirmation (or letter for those without ) they receive after your dues payment is processed. This temporary card is to be clipped for use until the permanent card is received. If you have NOT received your card or Member Guide, PLEASE contact EWGA (info@myewga.com) directly so they can arrange for a replacement to be sent to you. Mary, Queen of Scotts, an avid golfer, as a young girl was sent to France for an education, where she had young men, the cadets (pronounced cad-day) carry her clubs for her. 2. An abnormal ground condition is any casual water, ground under repair or hole, cast or runway on the course made by a burrowing animal, a reptile or a bird.
