REPORT FROM THE CHAIR With approximately members, golf is one of the top five participation sports in Tasmania, demonstrating its popularity as a sporting and recreational activity. However in recent times golf and indeed all sporting organisations, have faced and will need to continue to address some challenges to their structures and operations in order to remain viable and continue to remain popular and grow participation. We simply must adapt to cater to the needs of the contemporary consumer if we are to attract and retain participants who more than ever have higher and differing expectations. Golf Tasmania must lead and support our clubs as they deal with mounting costs and increasing complexities and in many cases, with declining membership numbers. We must celebrate our history but also look to the future if golf is to grow and develop in the state. We can achieve this by working together and by working with our parent body, Golf Australia and other key golfing bodies to grow and develop our great game. BOARD AND STAFF The Board met at regular intervals during the year and I sincerely thank board members Paul Beard, Andrew Hill, Craig Clark (who resigned in August 2012), Bob Joel and Chris Bell for their commitment to their board roles. Early in 2012 an interim staffing arrangement was implemented by the Board, with Mrs Patty Johnson B. Com, CPA appointed to the position of Business Manager on a part-time basis and Stuart Eaton appointed as the Operations Manager. Following a recruitment process, Mr Craig French was appointed General Manager in August 2012 and manages the office with the support of Stuart Eaton, Operations Manager and Joan Cash, Finance and Administration Officer. The delivery of the MYGolf Junior Program to schools continued throughout 2012 through the services of Daniel Blackwell and Peter Webster. On behalf of the Board I extend sincere appreciation to Patty Johnson, Craig French, Stuart Eaton and Joan Cash for the dedicated and professional performance of their duties during this time.

STATE TEAMS On the playing side, the performance of our state representatives in national individual and teams events has once again been a highlight and I extend my congratulations to all players. The Board also extends its appreciation to coaches Nick White, Brent Barlow and Daniel Blackwell and managers Don Cameron, Gary Purdon, Derryn Johnstone and Rod Eiszele for their most valuable service. Of particular note in 2012 was the performance of the Men s state team who earned a place in the final of the interstate series in Adelaide in May only to narrowly lose to New South Wales. COMMITTEES and VOLUNTEERS This organisation could not operate without the various committees and volunteers who assist with the running of our major events. I express the Board s appreciation to the members of the Championship, Handicapping, Junior Golf, State Selection and Course Rating Committees and to the many club volunteers who have assisted throughout the year. You have performed most enthusiastically and we are indebted to you for the voluntary work you so willingly undertake for the benefit of our sport. SPONSORS The Board acknowledges and thanks our national sponsor Srixon and our local sponsors particularly Country Club Tasmania, the State Government, James Boag, L Oreal and Schweppes for their on-going support. We look forward to maintaining our close working and mutually beneficial relationship. CONCLUSION We have many challenges and opportunities ahead in 2013 including consultation with clubs and members about Golf Tasmania constitutional and governance issues, a Golf Australia High Performance coaching position to be located in the state and possible changes to the interstate series. It is vital that Golf Tasmania works closely with the member clubs and all stakeholders to grow and develop the sport. On behalf of the Board I thank all member clubs and District Associations for your assistance and efforts in 2012 and seek your continuing involvement in and support for the development of golf in this state. Helen Langenberg CHAIR GOLF TASMANIA

OPERATIONS REPORT 2012 has been another busy and successful year for Golf Tasmania, but also a year that held many challenges. EVENTS Golf Tasmania had another successful year conducting the State s major events for both the elite and grass roots golfers. Please see the details contained within the later stages of this annual report for further information. JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT MYGolf At the conclusion of 2012 there were 24 registered MYGolf centres within Tasmania with 82 children enrolled as MYGolfers. An increasing number of schools were committed to running a 5 week program each year for three years and as schools registers they received a MYGolf kit. MYGolf for Schools has continued with the part-time employment of Target Golf s Peter Webster operating in the North and North West of the State, and a number of providers in the South. This commitment to MYGolf for Schools continued until the end of 2012, visiting in excess of 44 primary and secondary educational institutions. Golf Australia is currently conducting a review of MYGolf and the PGA product/brand Pump Golf anticipating that the two products will become a single brand/product. Come and Try Days Come and Try Days were conducted at various host clubs during This initiative is a successful way of introducing juniors and adults to the game of golf. Golf Tasmania is committed to conducting these days in years to come. USGA COURSE RATING In 2009 Golf Australia adopted the USGA Course Rating System which is considered world s best practice and now applies in USA, Europe, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and much of Asia. The system fundamentally establishes a scratch (or course) and bogey rating and sees the actual measured length of a course being replaced by effective playing length which assists in reflecting what a golfer encounters during a round. The rating of all Golf Tasmania s member courses under the USGA System was completed in However Kaye Hartam and Don Cameron revisited member clubs during 2012 to assess adjustments (additional courses and amendments to established courses). A big thank you to Kaye, Don and their rating teams for their efforts over the past twelve months. Golf Tasmania is indebted to these volunteers for undertaking such an enormous task. Golf Tasmania is committed to re-rating courses over the next five years as per the requirements of the USGA Course Rating System. Therefore Golf Tasmania, in conjunction with rating teams, will be contacting member clubs in the coming months with the aim of conducting further assessments.

RULES ACCREDITATION A component of the National Rules Accreditation & Education Programs, the Club Level Rules Accreditation course assists those looking to develop their knowledge and/or delivery of the Rules of Golf. The course provides an education of the key Rules of Golf for club golfers and provides an education as to how to navigate around the Rule book, and how to locate the appropriate Rule/s to cater for a situation. The course also facilitates a greater intra-club spread of Rules knowledge, assist with intra-club administration of club events and provides for uniformity of the development of skills and application of skills. Golf Tasmania continued to deliver the Golf Australia Club Level Rules Accreditation Course across the State. Rules workshops were conducted in Southern, Northern and North Western Tasmania during the later part of Thank you to Bruce Eaton who conducted these workshops on behalf of Golf Tasmania during COMMUNITY GOLF COACH ONE ACCREDITATION A course designed to accredit participants under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme as Community Golf Coach One. Accreditation enables junior co-ordinators and beginner coaches to coach beginner golfers of any age. The role of a Community Coach is also to co-ordinate camps and clinics, and to link with organisations (both regional and State). This course offers sessions on teaching fundamentals, group management, sourcing resources and contacts, and practical assessments and feedback. The coach may also be remunerated to a maximum of $15k + GST per annum without jeopardising amateur status. With the assistance of Golf Australia and the PGA, Golf Tasmania successfully conducted the reinvigorated Community Golf Coach One Accreditation program in North through Jason Russell at Launceston Golf Club and North West through Nathan Stubbs at Devonport Golf Club. This year s courses saw a significant number of people successfully achieve accreditation. WOMEN S PARTICIPATION In accordance with the Strategic Plan, Golf Tasmania focused on continuing to facilitate women s participation during 2012, in particular through the Business Women s Championship and the support of specific women s Come and Try Days at host clubs. Business Women s Championship The championship was conducted by Golf Tasmania at the Riverside Golf Club with great success. The event noted a significant increase in entries based on last year s event. Come and Try Days A number of member clubs conducted Come and Try Days for women throughout the State during Golf Tasmania provided financial support to these host clubs with clinics focussing on skill development, participation and enjoyment.

WEBSITE Golf Tasmania unveiled a remodelled website in The overall look and feel of the site has been revamped and a number of new elements have been added, including an engaging flash news rotator to provide you with even more golfing information and news and an online tournament entry system to make lodging your championship entries easier. Golf Tasmania will continue to review the website to enhance the feel and provide greater ease of access to a broader range of information. Golf Tasmania also launched social media pages on Facebook and Twitter whereby the general public can access informal updates. MAJOR SPONSORS To Country Club Tasmania, Boags, Hobart Airport Hotels, L Oreal, Schweppes, Sport and Recreation Tasmania and Events Tasmania for their financial support of our major championships throughout the State, and Srixon Sport Australasia for their valuable assistance with our State teams. To our supporting sponsors such as Adina Watches, Southern Cross Television, IOOF and Fresh Freight, we offer our sincere thanks for your continued support and assistance throughout the year.

TREASURER S REPORT The enclosed Financial Report provides full financial disclosure of the year ended 31st December, Golf Tasmania has produced an extraordinary accrual profit of $100,744 for its 2012 financial year. Unlike the profit derived in 2011 from an adjustment in accounting treatment (essentially a adjustment of timing), this profit was mainly as a result of a saving of salaries for the extended vacancy of the General Manager position and the ongoing vacancy of a Development Officer role since The General Manager position remained vacant following the resignation of Mr Skeggs in 2011 until late August 2012 and so a significant portion of almost 9 months of costs associated with this position were not incurred. On a comparative basis the 2011 result is an increase in operating profit against the 2010 financial year: 2012 $ 2011 $ Overall Income 657, ,848 Overall Expenditure (556,337) (498,204) Net Profit 100, ,644 Without adjustment 37,294 Looking forward to 2013, the Board will continue to review the operational structure to ensure both a quality and efficient service is being delivered. We will continue to seek to diversify our income through increased sponsorship. Golf Tasmania will also continue to work with Golf Australia on a number of projects targeting participation, promotion and club development and support, alignment of Golf Tasmania and the national body will ensure that the Golf Tasmania investment will produce the highest quality products with the greatest return for our members. Mr Andrew Hill Treasurer
