Monica with Ankush, Ranveer and Kushagra and their Caddies Golf National Coaching Camp Star of the Tournament - Ranveer Singh An evening with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev We are once again honoured to welcome Sadhguru at the Club. He played 18 holes with Kishan Bijoria, Sameer Sood and Shaun Satterly. Shaun gave his valuable tips to Sadhguru. Our course Superintendent Shaun was also there to discuss the nitty gritties of the course after over seeding.
9 From our Superintendent's Quill Golfers movements on the golf course have an impact on the maintenance operations more than they realize. Golf courses in modern times are much busier than ever before and the increase in traffic has profound effects on the playing surfaces. This manifests as thin, worn yellow turf or heavily divoted and damaged areas. The most common traffic injury appears as bruised leaf tissue from which a healthy turf plant system can recover quite quickly given weather conditions are favourable for active growth. To help spread the wear and tear on the course, the use of traffic barriers in the form of ropes/picket fences/signs are in place at key positions around the course. These areas are protected from traffic to allow recovery and/or seed establishment. Human nature wants to use the shortest or most economical path between two points, however this results in damaged turf areas or a worn path. Common sense should suggest that the traffic barriers are there for a reason, so please be responsible and accept the small inconvenience of taking the alternative route and this will lead to less damaged areas around the course. Shaun Satterly Winter play and the impact frost has on playability of the course is a potential issue every winter. Luckily, frost hasn t been a major issue in past seasons in that it would negatively impact play, however, the potential is there depending upon the season. Morning play will be delayed in the case of a heavy frost which has the potential to damage turf. Maintenance staff and golfer traffic can cause significant damage to playing surfaces if allowed to move across the turf whilst under frost conditions. Irrigation, sun and wind will allow the frost to dissipate from the playing surface thus returning conditions to normal and in turn allowing play and maintenance to resume. Golfers do have a major impact on golf course maintenance operations and your cooperation will ultimately result in improved playing conditions for all. Diet Dos and Don ts while Gyming Don t starve yourself : Research does show you can lose unwanted weight by starving yourself. The problem is that up to 50% of that weight loss comes from muscle tissue, not from fat. And that sets you up for pure disaster. Muscles are your body s metabolic furnace; each pound burns about 50 calories a day. On the other hand, every pound of muscle you lose on a starvation diet slows your metabolism down by 50 calories a day. Don t skip breakfast & do put the 'FAST' back in breakfast :Never Ever Miss your breakfast, your morning meal establishes healthy metabolism throughout the day. Breakfast may be considered the most important meal of the day, but it doesn t have to be the most time-consuming. You can save a lot of time and energy by keeping this meal simple and straightforward. There are many quick, healthful breakfast foods you can stock in your pantry. Stick with high-fiber cereal, whole-grain toast, oatmeal, and fresh fruit foods you can throw together in just a few minutes. Then make an additional effort to ensure your lunches and dinners are nutritionally balanced. Do fight fat at night : Those eight hours after your head hits the pillow aren t just for dreaming. While you sleep, your body actually repairs and rebuilds your muscles. But, if you eat too close to bedtime, your body will spend its energy digesting the food in your tummy and not recuperating your muscles. Don t eat if you re not hungry & don t eat too much saturated fat : Fat isn t all bad. Good fats found in foods such as fatty fish, nuts and flaxseeds are essential for your health and ability to lose weight. But when it comes to bad fats, such as saturated fat, it s important to understand what types of food they hide in so you can avoid them. Do eat four to six small meals a day : Smaller, more frequent meals will keep your blood sugar levels stable and will increase your metabolism. And, because the meals keep the tummy satisfied throughout the day, you re less likely to turn into a pantry-raiding snack monster. Don t drink alcohol : Whether it s wine or beer, alcohol offers only Dehydration. Alcohol consumption also hurts muscle growth. Not drinking will really make you better and improve your results! You will see an immediate improvement in strength, focus, motivation, intensity, endurance and recovery. Just a mug or two of beer will have effects on the body's ability to function - not just for the next few hours, but for the next few days! In the time period it takes for the body to return to normal, which can be anywhere from 3 days to one week, you will still be negatively impacted From Chef Abhijit s Kitchen How to make homemade sundried tomatoes Ingredients gm firm ripe roma tomatoes 2. 2 teaspoons salt 3. 1 teaspoon dried basil (optional) 4. 1 teaspoon dried oregano(optional) 5. 1 teaspoon dried thyme(optional) Directions 6. 10 Academy News Karan's Tips Pitch over Bunker While playing a chip / pitch shot, evaluate if you have trouble e.g. bunker on the way. This Month's Achievers DLF GOLF ACADEMY Pic 1: As shown, in this case, we have a bunker to negotiate. Neha clinches her third title of the year Gaurika Bishnoi DLF Brand Ambassador, Neha Tripathi grabbed a 3-shot victory in the 15th leg of Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour held at the Palms Golf Club and Resort, Lucknow. Gaurika Bishnoi finished second. Pic 2: Set up with the ball in the centre of the stance, and open the face a bit. Grip down low and keep the weight favouring the front foot. Jhanavi wins the 9th Albatross Golf Championship Jahanvi Bakshi won the 9th Albatross International Junior Golf Championship held at the Classic Golf Resort, Gurugram, by 12 strokes. She has been awarded a one-month golf scholarship from Hills International College, Australia. Sunhit wins the Yes Bank Junior Boys Golf Championship Sunhit Vishnoi won the IGU Yes Bank Maharashtra Junior Boys Golf Championship, held at Poona Golf Club. Pic 3: Shows an extension of the hands away from the ball. Try to extend the club back and through with a gentle turn of the upper body. Try not to lift the ball in the air, especially by flicking the wrists. For more consistency, use the angle of the club face to get the height. Remember, if the club face gets under the ball, the ball will get the height needed to clear the bunker. Jai Bahl won the All India IGU National Feeder Tour, played at BPGC Mumbai from 14th to17th.
11 Junior Development Programme The Women s Golf Association of India in partnership with the Ladies European Tour organised a Junior Golf Development Camp at the Hero Women s Indian Open. Junior girls in the age group of years, from across India were invited to be a part of this Camp. The juniors came in from various cities that included Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Delhi NCR. Budding Golfers listen intently The Camp began with an introduction to the workings of the LET as an organisation. Mr Mike Round, Director of Development from the LET, spoke about how the tour encompasses culture around the world with golf as a common theme. We like to challenge the norm, and in the process, inspire people to come into the sport. The idea is to generate a lot of interest and engage with fans. The juniors were also given a brief history of the tour that was launched back in 1978, rounding up the session with a few visuals that showed the 2016 season in review. Champika Sayal, Secretary General of the Women s Golf Association of India spoke to the juniors about how they could go ahead with careers in the game. She also spoke about the imperative things that junior golfers should keep in mind while playing the game including career counselling, preparation for a tournament and volunteering at various steps of the game. Clinic by Spain s Carlota Ciganda Carlota Ciganda, the highest-ranked player in the field, World Number 20, a multiple winner on the LET and a US-based LPGA tour player, conducted a Clinic for all the members and juniors. It was a great learning experience for all of them as they took valuable tips from Carlota. She got the juniors totally involved in the Clinic and also got them to hit shots, helping them with their techniques. Carly Booth with the juniors Scotland s Carly Booth, who has two wins on the LET, explained her reasons to turn professional early and balancing all aspects of life as an athlete. India s Neha Tripathi, who is one of the leading players on the WGAI, spoke about the essentials attached to the full swing including judging distances, the importance of a pre-shot routine and the pressure attached to playing the game professionally. With an exciting international golf tournament back at the DLF Golf & Country Club, the DLF Golf Academy juniors contributed to the success of the Hero Women s Indian Open 2017 by volunteering and assisting in tournament operations. Volunteers performed various duties like live scoring, updating leaderboards & walking with the leader groups on the last day. Anitya Chand Launch Direction After Launch Angle last month, let s have a look at Launch Direction this month. Launch Direction is the initial direction that the ball starts on, relative to the ball to target line. Every launch monitor draws an imaginary line (the zero-degree line) from the golf ball to the target and Launch Direction is simply the direction that the ball launches on, with respect to this line. A positive launch direction indicates a ball that starts right of the zero-degree line or left of the target and a negative launch direction indicates a ball that starts left of the zero-degree line or left of the target. The larger the number, the more offline the ball has started (right or left). A zero-launch direction means the ball started directly at the target. Launch Direction is reported in degrees and can be thought of in terms of push, pull, or straight. It is important to understand that launch direction does not describe the curvature of the shot and only tells us about its starting direction. The curvature of the golf ball depends upon other factors like a difference between face and path and off center hit or gear effect. The Launch Direction of the golf ball is mainly controlled by the face angle of the club at impact. Depending upon the club being hit and the friction between the club head and the golf ball, the Launch Direction of the golf ball can vary between 50% to 95% towards the face angle. Generally speaking, the lower the loft of the club, the more the Launch Direction will be closer to the face angle of the club. The other factors that also affect the Launch Direction of the golf ball are the path that the club head is traveling on and the point of contact on the club face. As an example, a ball with a launch direction of -2.0 will be 3.5 yards left of the target line at 100 yards and 7.0 yards left of the target line at 200 yards. Or a ball with a launch direction of -4.0 will be 7.0 yards left of the target line at 100 yards and 14.0 yards left of the target line at 200 yards. These examples simply use the Launch Direction to determine how far a ball would be offline at a certain distance. There is no curvature accounted for because curvature is not linked to launch direction.
