2 Chairman s Report Hope the Year has begun well for you fellow members. I most sincerely thank God for the massive blessings on the entire Vetlab family during the Year Thank you members for the tremendous support accorded to the board last year, God bless you abundantly. We welcome Directors Susan Ngure and Joe Kimani on Board and look forward to an even greater A list of highlights on a number of tasks we wish to undertake this Year: 1) Kitchen re-modification; Members you will notice increased patronage over the last few months making our current kitchen insufficient to handle the increased volumes, we got your approval to pursue this urgently, we have engaged architects Aleem Manji Architects to come up with the design in conjunction with a kitchen designer to be competitively picked soon. 2) Swimming Pool development, members demanded we make the club an all family affair. We have your approval to construct a swimming pool on a site to be identified. More details will be shared in due course. 3) Purchase of Golf Course equipment, we have already purchased the verti-drain machine this year and hope to purchase a ride on green mower and few other necessary machines within the year. Martin Mbugua Vice Chairman ) Course Redesign; we engaged a professional by the name David Jones last year to redesign our course so as to create a practice range, move the current practice green and create more terrace for outdoor sitting area. We are in receipt of the first draft proposal; we shall be sharing the proposed design with members once we have it. 5) Irrigation System upgrade and improvement; we received an audit report from Hydroturf UAE on the current state of our irrigation system, it has been recommended that we undertake massive overhauls so as realize a world class golf course. Due to limited resources we proposing to undertake the upgrade in phases starting with the pump house and the ring mains. 6) Caddy Shed is complete and ready for occupation, this should happen in the month of April. 7) Membership Drive, we are undertaking a mini membership drive to replace members who have left the club for whatever reason. This is to commence in April, members kindly encourage your friends and families to join Vet Labs at a hugely discounted price of Kshs. 325, per gentleman member and Kshs. 250, for the ladies, Kshs, 300, for corporates of at least 3 members. 8) Sports Bar Theme Nights, after the successful launch of our Sports Bar aka The Water Hazard we are looking to introduce various theme nights to cater to our diversified membership. We shall be sharing a few proposals within the next few weeks. We also welcome suggestions from members in this regard. We continue to urge members to update their subscription status to enable us achieve these ambitious deliverables. Lastly I continue to remind members to carry themselves with Decorum and always observe golf etiquette and integrity while at Vet Labs vicinity. Warm Regards, Martin Mbugua Vice Chairman Clement Kiragu General Manager General Manger s Note Dear Members, At the onset, allow me to thank you most sincerely for your warm welcome since joining this auspicious Sports Club five months ago. I have interacted with most of you and must underline warmth which indeed makes Vet Lab Sports Club that special the friendliest Club in Kenya. I must also acknowledge invaluable counsels from most of you which has not only enabled me grasp the ethos and philosophy of the Club much faster but allowed me to literally hit the ground running. The Team welcomes our new Food & Beverage Manager Mr. Abdi Isaak who joined us towards the end of December 2016 and Miss Mercy Mitei, the new Finance manager who joined us in January Ms Margaret Gathoni was promoted to Snr. Accountant and you are most welcome to approach both Mercy and Margaret should there be any issue with your accounts. The Sports Bar the water hazard finally officially opened on 18 th February 2017 with one of the biggest patronage of over 250 members (and their visitors) that partied to wee hours of the morning. This is yet another milestone to Club s development that has attracted some members who were hitherto inactive and hope many more will join suit. It is exciting to see our junior s smile to their state of the art changing Rooms and do hope many will now actively play their rounds confident they can comfortably enjoy these facilities exclusively between 06: 00 hrs to 18:00hrs only. Juniors however are not allowed at the water hazard. Despite the dry spell coupled with intermittent pump breakages, the Golf course Team has generally kept the course in great shape. In additional to previous improvement of golf course machines, the just received Verti-Drain machine for hollowtinning the greens is a most welcome and you should expect even sleeker and quicker greens in future. My Team and I endeavours to remain devoted to the Club s ethos and philosophy and to this end, we are aligning ourselves to meet and surpass your aspiration both in the course as well as in the Club house and now at the water hazard. Even as we work on some teething issues particularly in billing, cashiering timings have been adjusted to 23:00 hrs to ease services. 3 Captain s statement Golf Section Dear Golfers, Friends and Colleagues, It is indeed my pleasure and honor to serve you as a Captain for 2017 at Vetlab Sports Club. I thank every member who took the effort of electing me and will give it my best ability to perform my duties with highest integrity and will be open for suggestions and comments. I would like to thank my past Captain J. G. Njenga, whose guidance and motivation has been relentless, hope to improve from his legacy for the betterment of the club. I also look forward to working with Mary Karano our Lady Captain for 2017 and wish her and the Ladies Golf Committee all the best in the year. This year we will be playing mixed tournaments in conjunction with the ladies and request members to support these events. Our Cheerful, ever willing and hardworking Vice-Captain Mark Karobia, look forward to working with him and forming a formidable team. My primary objective and aim will be to raise the standard of VETLAB golfers and to be part of encouraging juniors and make them a valuable asset of our club. As your Captain, I am looking forward to working with the various Committees, and we are organizing a full calendar year of competitions which are available for all members. I urge you all too actively participate as much as possible as this also gives you an opportunity to meet other members and their guests. Vetlab is one of the most talked about golf courses in Kenya where every golfer has shown keen eagerness to come and play and now with the new sports bar opened we are on the fast growth pattern. The staff and various officers, in their different capacities, work tirelessly throughout the year to manage this wonderful facility. We appreciate their hard work and dedication for without them the facilities and reputation that we enjoy would not be possible. Sponsors play a very important role and we are indeed very grateful for their continued support. We encourage everyone to show their appreciation by supporting our sponsors during the club nights and various competitions whenever possible. Best Regards, Rakesh Lakhani Captain Vetlab Men s Golf Nairobi District Foursomes 2017 Congratulations to the Vet Lab s duo of Edwin Mudanyi and Robinson Owiti who won the Nairobi District Foursomes 2017, it was a great victory and we look forward to a few more Annual Handicap Review As a requirement under CONGU regulations to carry out an Annual Review to identify players whose general playing performance and scoring pattern over the year is better or inferior than expected and should have a handicap reduction or increase. (CONGU regulations 23.1 & Appendix M), the Handicapping Sub-Committee ensured that this exercise was accomplished timely in January this year. Local rule Due to the long dry spell experienced in the beginning of this year, we currently have Preferred lies on closely mown areas this mean that you can mark, clean and place your ball within one scorecard of the original position, no closer to the hole. There is sure to be some conjecture as to where the edge of the closely mown areas (fairway) is and all I can do is remind you that this is a game of honesty and that if in doubt, you don t touch the ball. Men Golf Section Our golf season opened with the Sungura Cup which was played in the first and second week of January, whereby Abraham Samoei emerged the Sungura Cup 2017 champion after beating young Rishabh Sevak 4& 3 in the finals. Sungura Cup Winner: Abraham Samoei. Legendary Jacob s Cup tournament, another singles match strictly for handicap 16 and below was played in the second and third week of March whereby we had an entertaining match in the finals between the man with the patented swing X. N. Iraki VS Henry D souza. This time round Iraki just failed to win hence Henry slipped with the victory. Congratulations to the winners of these two prestigious match play events. 3

I take great pride in the Vet Lab Francombe team for outstanding performance in 2016 and believe we will retain the shield in To recap what has happened in the last couple of months; in January we had the Medal of Medals which was played concurrently with men s January Mug, Kabete Ladies Open was played in March and Eileen Belcher in April. Pros Corner Golf Talent Foundation Currently the Club is supporting G.T.F members. 1) Mike Kisia 2) Edwin Mudanyi 3) Ebill Omolo 4) Otuke Isaiah 5) Isaac Makokha Through the G.T.F. support they managed to produce players in the National team. Through junior program we ve managed to produce five juniors who will be representing the club in Tannahill 2017 are 1) Rohan Lakhani 2) Dilan Thakkav 3) Virani Kaisaan 4) Raikundauya Kush 5) Sevac Rishabh We also have received junior sets from Holand through Pro Ali Orende Courtesy of Mr. Henk Harmsen. The sets will help in running junior program especially from schools around Kabete, Loresho & Shangilia. Subsidiary R-Up: Maina Iraki. League Match: Currently we are in 6th position after 3 matches, the team is aiming to be crowned champions this year. Tannahill Seniors The club will be represented by 10 players in Royal during Tannahill. Vet having won the Nairobi District foursomes we are preparing for the Tannahill to be played at Royal. 6 F&B Highlights The food and beverage department has started the year 2017 with a lot of goodies, the new baby being the Sports bar with it s state of the art Facilities with good theme and décor best for people who want cool music and relaxed atmosphere, the chef has also introduced new menu for the sports bar which will be available till late The club house also has a new Ala carte menu which will cater to international tastes from Asian to African to European and American, we also have a mouth watering buffet for the family outing every Sunday There is a new look club house terrace with new furniture for the best ambience and relaxation as you wine and dine watching golfers playing. The food and beverage team are working hard to improve on the services and products so as to make the club a better place to be. When you want to use the club house for your lunches, dinner or special events. We also have conference facilities for up to 50 pax with a special conference package. Box Nairobi Kenya Phone: Dear Club Members, Thank you for your continued patronage at Vetlab Sports Club. We ve seen numerous upgrades, expansions, and services added to this Club, and I ensure you that this is only the beginning! To serve you better we have a few reminders to keep you in check so that you continue to use the Club facilities Subscriptions- All subs are due before a quarter commences. This can be paid as follows and posting is done after quarter falls due. Oct - Dec Jan - March April - June July - Sept Minimum Spend (patronage)- All members are required to patronize the Club with Kshs. 1,500/= every month apart from absentee and junior members. IN DEFAULT of so spending such members account shall be debited with the sum of Kshs. 1,500/= for the month in issue and which will be recoverable as a debt. A member shall inform the Club in writing of his or whereabouts in instances they are not around to patronize the Club in a given month. Proof of documents maybe required. Membership cards; Your Membership card is your property. The card holder should not give his/ her card to a non- member to use. For family membership each of the members should have their own card with their details. If any member is found breaking this regulation, stern action will be taken. Misplaced, Worn out, lost or stolen membership cards should be immediately reported to the office for a new one to be issued at a fee of Kshs 500. No card no service- To use the Club facilities all members are required to produce their cards. Guests - all members are required to sign in their guests at the reception at all times. A minimum number of three guests is allowed in a given month. A particular guest is not to be signed more than three times in a month. Gym- All members using the gym shall sign in and accompany their guests at any given time. Life members- A Life Member is a member who has been a full member for a continuous period of not less than Twenty Five (25) years and who has attained the age of sixty five (65) years and who has been elected as such by the board and ratified by majority of members in a General meeting. On election, he/she shall pay no further subscriptions but shall be liable to pay other levies and charges payable by full members from time to time. He/she shall enjoy all the privileges of full membership for life unless he is expelled or resigns from the Club. Junior Members- A Junior member is a child of a full member, or one sponsored by a full member, who has been elected as such, and who has paid the prescribed fee for the time being payable for such junior member - ship as fixed by an Annual General Meeting. Should a Junior Member fail to take up the full membership of the Club within One (1) year after attaining Twenty Five (25) years of age, this option will be forfeited and such Junior Member will have to apply for membership like any other Applicant, subject to the rules of the Club A Junior member should join the Club before attaining the age of 18yrs. Those who join the club after 18yrs will pay 40% of the full joining fee per category. Change of membership- Change of membership will only be effected at the beginning of a financial year i.e. October of every year. RESIGNATION - Any member wishing to resign from Special thanks to everyone who helped and contributed to making this article a fabulous success! the Club shall inform the Membership Secretary in writing and must have paid all the dues owing to the Club other wise if in default the same will become recoverable at the instance of the Club.
