1 Karachi Club Publication March 2014 From the desk of Chief Editor Dear Members, I would like to initiate the news letter with a quote, "Respect is earned. Honesty is appreciated. Trust is gained. Loyalty is returned". As members of the club we do function as a family where we feel secure, respected and valued. This newsletter is dedicated to the senior members where every year the club is proud to announce and reward their bonding and strong affiliation with the club for more than 50 years. Their trust, alliance and allegiance to the club have undoubtedly been consistent, steadfast and full of pride. Thank you for being there for us. May you live the best of your life with good health and success. Now coming to our upcoming events and functions, veterans cricket, KC Badminton, swimming events and much more will be held. The most unique and exclusive stamps display is going to be interesting and attention grabbing for the members. The most interesting thing about postage stamp is the persistence with which it sticks to its job. For our readers, I would like to share that Philately is the study of stamps and philatelist is the stamp collector whom we will witness with a great and valuable collection of stamps from all over the world. 3 Club Events Karachi Club Publication Winter Fun Extravaganza - Entertainment What a roaring start of the year for the dynamic and young Entertainment Convenor, Munir Colombo, and his dedicated team. A family day full of fun and joy for members and their entire families. It was after a lapse of many years that such program was once again held. This year with mild winter in the air members flocked KC Junior Tape Ball Cricket Tournament (9-13 years) - Cricket Cricket activities in the club have in recent years once again gained a prominent position in calendar of activities of the club. Being first cricket program by Cricket Committee, its Convenor, Yasin Ozri left no stoned unturned to make it a successful event. After trials more then 175 young boys were selected and distributed in 12 teams which played the day long March 2014 at Sindbad, Nisar Shaheed Park in the early morning to first enjoy the Breakfast of Halwa, Tarkari and Puri and then unlimited fun rides on the offer. Entire arena was booked exclusively for the members. No stone was left unturned to make an event a success with a army of club staff available on various duties. Attendance was recorded at 1500 plus members. Program concluded around 2.30 pm with exhausted yet satisfied members who had a memorable day of fun. tournament on 1st March on the lawn of KC Main. Total of 11 matches were played. The final was won by KC Panthers which scored 95 for 4. KC Eagles chasing the total were all out for 32 runs. Ibrahim Saleem scoring 60 runs for KC Panthers was declared Man of the Match. At the conclusion Former President, Ashfaq Tola was the Chief Guest who gave away the trophy to the winning team. 4 March 2014 Karachi Club Publication 1st KC Open Single Red Ball Snooker Tournament - Snooker The 1st KC Open Single Red Snooker Tournament was held at the Grand Snooker Room of the club, from 3rd Feb till 12 Feb A total of 64 players participated in the event. First Semi final was played between Rizwan Jumbo and Ismail Arif which was won by Rizwan with a score of 4-1. Other Semi final was played between Ali Aqeel Suria and Hussain Ferozpur which Club Events was won by Ali with a margin of 4-2. Final a best of seven frames, was played between Rizwan Jumbo and Ali Aqeel Suria, which was won by Rizwan Jumbo by 4-2. Abbas T. Bandukwala, a Senior member of the club and former Managing Committee Member graced the occassion as the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony, alongwith the President, Ayub Bawany and Honorary Secretary, Mohammad Jawed Zakaria. Smell of freshly cooked food was in the air. One could see various varieties of Punjabi delights on offer specially Sarsoon Ka Saag, Makkai ki Roti, Charga, Lahori Fish, Murgh Cholay to name few. Yet again Kunna and Paya were instant hits. Credit for this again goes to our Kitchen Convenor, Ayaz Siddiq who organized Punjabi Food Festival; yet again a thorough success.
