1 JAMES S. BRADY RIDING FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN The James S. Brady Riding Program for Special Children, a nonprofit organization of Horses in California, Inc., was established in 1987 to bring health and healing to the physically challenged in the San Francisco Bay Area. The program provides year-round riding and horsemanship lessons for children with special needs. Lessons are under the direction of licensed personnel, certified and insured by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association. 2 CLASS INFORMATION & DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES Equitation Over Fences/Under Saddle: Rider will be judged on hand, seat, guidance, and control of horse. Overall presentation will be considered. Hunter Over Fences/Under Saddle: Horse will be judged on obedience, alertness, responsiveness, and freedom of movement. Overall turnout will be considered. Hunter Hack: Horse will be judged on performance and obedience with an emphasis on manners on the flat and over two fences not to exceed division height. Horses in Elementary Hunter division may be asked to hand gallop individually. Horses in Low Hunter division may be asked to hand gallop in groups of no more then eight. Overall turnout will be considered. Medal class: To be shown over a jumper-type course at divisional height. Rider will be judged on hands, seat, guidance, and control of horse. Top riders may be called back to ride special test at judge s discretion. Overall turnout will be considered. Jumper course A/B: will be placed according to time and penalties only. A highpoint prize will be awarded to one horse/rider combination per division. To be considered for highpoint, horse/rider combination must have competed in the medal class for that division. Overall champion and reserve champion will go to the horse/rider combination with the highest number of points having competed in at least one medal class. Points are awarded for 1-6th place as follows: Medal Classes: All other classes: RULES & REGULATIONS Rider/horse combinations may not cross-enter Introductory hunter and Low hunter divisions. Classes over fences are limited to 20 competitors. Flat classes are limited to 30 competitors. There will be a non-refundable Nomination fee of $25 Entry will be $12/class for horses entered prior to closing date of entries. Post entry fee will be $15/class. Cancellations 48 hours prior to start time will be fully refunded, less the nomination fee. Refunds will be made with written verification from a veterinarian. Returned checks will be charged an additional $25 processing fee above the balance owed. The show will be held in accordance of the rules and procedures set forth by the USEF. Appropriate attire for hunt seat is required. Juniors must wear approved helmets while riding. Protective headgear is required by all participants while jumping. All exhibitors are required to wear shoes or boots with a riding heel whenever on horse back on the show grounds. All dogs must be restrained (leashed) at all times while at the show grounds. Courses may consist of any combination of brush, gates, oxers, panels, post and rail, coops and walls. All horses must remain in designated areas of the show grounds. There is no lounging/riding outside of designated area. Please observe all posed rules. All riders must sign a release. Brady Riding Program for Special Children Judge: Kay Hitch Location: Bercut Equitation Field, Golden Gate Park Date: May 7th, 2006 DIRECTIONS TO BERCUT EQUITATION FIELD From the North, take 101 South over the Golden Gate Bridge. Take the 19th Avenue exit, Stay on 19th Avenue (= Park Presidio Blvd) until through Golden Gate Park. Immediately turn right onto Lincoln Way, then right on 41st Avenue. Go through stop sign, see Bercut Field on left. From the South, take 280 North, and left exit onto 19th Avenue. Turn right onto Irving Street, then left onto 18th Avenue, left again onto Lincoln Way, right at 41st Avenue. Go through stop sign, see Bercut Field on left.
