2 RULES & REGULATIONS The New River Valley Horse Show is NOT sanctioned by USEF. However, every class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current USEF Rulebook will be conducted & judged in accordance therewith. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to submit entries that do not constitute a violation of these provisions. ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: Horses will be permitted on the show grounds starting at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 23. The grounds must be vacated no later than 12:00 noon on Sunday, May 27. ENTRIES: Entries should be submitted on the official entry forms for this show. ALL HORSES SHOULD BE PRE-ENTERED with entries being post-marked no later than May 5, Late entries will incur a $5 late fee. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ENTRY FEES WITH THE PRE-ENTRY. Entering one class constitutes a pre-entry. ANY changes (add or scratch classes, substitute horses, etc.) may be made at any time without penalty. Even if the pre-entry is a complete scratch, there will be NO FEES assessed. OFFICE: The Horse Show Office will be located behind the stage (the announcer s stand) and will be open for exhibitors to check in beginning at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 24. EXHIBITORS THAT SEND IN PRE-ENTRIES MAY PICK UP THEIR PACKETS AT ANY TIME but in order for the show to start & run on time, NEW ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LESS THAN 1 HOUR PRIOR TO THE START OF EVERY SESSION. FEES: The Horse Show will enforce an OPEN CHECK POLICY. Fees must be paid in full or an open check must be left in the office before back numbers will be released. Failure to settle an account within 1 hour after the end of the show gives the Horse Show Secretary authority to fill in the correct amount owed to the Horse Show. Any check returned for non-payment will be charged a $50 handling fee and must be replaced by a certified check or money order. JACKPOT CLASSES: Entry fees for the $300 Jackpot classes will be $60 with $30 going to the Horse Show and $30 going into the Jackpot. Regular prize money will be paid in the Jackpot classes according to the premium schedule listed. In addition to the regular prize money awarded, the Jackpot collected money will pay as follows: 1 st -30%, 2 nd -25%, 3 rd -20%, 4 th -15%, 5 th -5%, 6 th -5%. ENTRIES FOR THE JACKPOT CLASSES MUST BE MADE AT LEAST 2 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SESSION. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES: To be eligible to compete in a championship class, horses must be entered, shown, and judged in a qualifying class in its division or section. GATE CALL: There will be a two (2) minute gate call commencing after the first horse enters the ring unless a hold has been announced. Judging will not start until the gate is officially closed. PRIZE MONEY: All prize money will be paid by check issued no later than June 26, 2018 unless there is an outstanding account due. All accounts must be paid in full before checks can be issued. STALLS: Stalls are available for $50 or $60 (depending on location) for the duration of the show or any part thereof. An exhibitor will receive a Free Stall with payment for each 10 stalls paid for. Stall reservations MUST BE made with Alice Martens. Mail requests for location & required fees to: Alice C. Martens, Waggys Creek Road, Dayton, VA Phone or Stall fees or an open check must accompany all stall requests. If a stall reservation is phoned in, the fees or open check must be mailed within 3 days or risk losing your stall preference. Full refund will be made for cancellations made by May 12. For later cancellations a 10% handling fee will be applied. EACH OWNER OR TRAINER SHALL MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR HIS HORSES ONLY. If all stalls are not rented by the first day of the show, timed-event exhibitors and Saturday day-time exhibitors will have the option of renting stalls for $25 each for Fri. night or Sat. EXHIBITORS WORKING OFF TRAILERS DURING THE SHOW are asked to park only in the designated areas. Signs will be posted. This will ensure a smooth traffic flow and keep horses & people safe. BEDDING: Stalls will be reasonably clean. Bedding will be available for cash purchase at the Fair Grounds - $6 per bale. Sawdust is not allowed. ADMISSION: FREE ADMISSION TO ALL SESSIONS. Spectators are asked to park in designated parking areas. Please keep parking areas around the barns free for owners, trainers, & exhibitors. PARKING: All exhibitors, owners, & trainers are asked to use Gate #1 to enter the grounds. For safety reasons, one (1) hour prior to each evening session, the area around the show ring will be closed to vehicles. Access to the barns will be straight thru Gate #1 & around the back portion of the barn area. Signs will be posted. TRAILER/RV HOOK-UPS: A limited number of hook-ups are $20 per day or night. Call for camper reservations. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: State law mandates that each horse on the show grounds must possess a negative Coggins Test executed within the past twelve (12) months. A copy of the Coggins must be submitted with each entry & will remain as a permanent part of the show file. INDEMNITY: All exhibitors, owners, trainers, or employees, upon entrance to the Fair Grounds agree to indemnify, save and hold harmless New River Valley Recreation, Inc., the New River Valley Horse Show and all volunteers, officials, employees, or sponsors of same from any and all claims arising from his or her use of the Fair Grounds during the New River Valley Horse Show. MISCELLANEOUS: No cross entries permitted between Pleasure & Performance divisions. No class will be cancelled if there is at least one entry. However, prize money will start at 2 nd place money if there are fewer than 3 entries in any given class. There will be no classes added. The show ring will be available each night after the show ends for at least 30 minutes but will close no later than 12:00 midnight. All pets must be on a leash. USE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WHILE ON THE SHOW GROUNDS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. DQP INSPECTION: All walking & racking horses are required to go through DQP inspection DQP Fee is included in entry fee. *PROPER ATTIRE FOR ALL TIMED EVENTS consists of long sleeved shirts, jeans or other long pants, & boots. Hats are optional & protective head gear will not be penalized.

7 March 2018 Dear All, Thank you so much for being a part of the NRV Horse Show! You are receiving this letter because you are an exhibitor, sponsor or just a special friend of the NRV Horse Show. The NRV Horse Show has its roots in the Pulaski Horse Show, which originated over 106 years ago. The show was then held at the historic Calfee Park (which is now one of the best baseball fields in SW Virginia). We now have great facilities at the NRV Fair Grounds. The 2017 NRV was a great show except for the rain on Thursday night, which cancelled the Thursday night show, and we had other issues that resulted in us coming out in the red. Our show is staffed mostly by volunteers and we have cut corners all we can to continue on with the quality show we have. So, now we are asking for your help to sponsor any and all the classes that you can, to exhibit all horses you can and help us get the word out to everyone you see! Think of all the exhibitors and horses who have been a part of our show. Would you like to remember a trainer, rider or horse with a class sponsor or memorial trophy? As I think back, there are so many people and horses that influenced me and my family. There are people who love this show, and like me, would like to see it continue. We need your help! Contact Alice Martens with your entries or sponsorships. We also need your ideas on how to improve or add to our classes in order to carry on a great show. Please talk to any committee member!
