We have been fortunate to obtain the services of two very experienced Victorian judges for our show. You will also notice there have been a few changes to the Ridden section of the State Show program. We are hoping that this will make it fairer to all ridden competitors no matter what size horse they ride. Nearly all the babies have arrived (except mine of course). Still waiting not long to go now. All 4 mares are huge 2 have been bagged up for the last two weeks. Thank god for foaling alarms, foal watch would have been wearing a bit thin by now. Three I am expecting coloured foals from and one will be chestnut. I am about to welcome a new/old member to the Society. My good friend Christel McGlashen (partner in the I never want to see anything pink again fiasco, see last newletter) has purchased from me Riverton Lodge in High Spirits. Spirit is by Rodney and Vicki Gee's Stallion Free Spirit Rasputin out of our Thoroughbred mare Optawin (Winnie). Christel was our very first Associate member so we are kind of welcoming her back she is hoping to do Endurance on Spirit, I am sure she will do well. We are waiting on Winnie's second foal, which is by Christine Gossage's Paint stallion that looks like it will be due on Xmas day! Nice Xmas present for sure. I have been out and about riding again. Went to the Joker Run at Four Springs held by the Northern Adult Riding club had a fantastic day. Lovely area to ride in. Would recommend joining in on one of these rides they were a great group of people. On that note too would like to say a big get well to Beryl Murray. Beryl has now had her operation and with her strength and determination I am sure she will be out and about again very soon, a little birdie told me she is pretty handy with her crutches too. We held a very successful Westbury Allbreeds. We had a good turn up and the weather was lovely. The lovely combination of Sarah Hingston and Anawa Kahabi certainly made all us Pinto people proud by bringing home the Supreme Ridden award on the day, once again well done to the dynamic duo. We have the Tas Pinto Allbreeds coming up on the 18th of March as well as some other events such as fun days and a few get togethers to celebrate our Thirtieth year. Looks like another very busy year ahead. Well this year is almost at an end and with it will come our nominations for committee. I know we say this every year but if you have ever thought about wanting to have a say in what direction your society is going think about nominating for a committee position. You will also notice that I ran a piece much like this in the last newsletter. I would like to keep this section of the newsletter going as we have some fabulous combinations within our society and it is great to see everyone out and about on their pintos and striving for greatness. I can only keep this going if you, the members inform me of awards that have been won, etc, as I cannot be everywhere. Please, if you and your pinto have achieved something you are extremely proud of, have a brag, we all like to read about what others are doing with their beautiful coloured horses. She is a long awaited and much anticipated baby. I cannot tell you all how happy I am about this foal. Opal is a much loved family member here at Zintahn and I have desperately been trying to get her in foal for the last 4 years. I have tried everything, and I mean everything, the vets had run out of options and just by chance, I was speaking to a friend about the problems I was having and she suggested another option and to myself and my vets amazement, it actually worked. I am overjoyed. Opal, however, in true form, made me wait even longer, like I had not already waited long enough *sigh. I always take holidays from work around foaling time so I can be there for the mare, but with Opal going so far over, I was actually back at work. I have to thank my good friends Lynn Rayner and Louise McNeair who both took it in turns to check on her through the night while I was at work. Diva finally made her grand entrance 5 weeks and 1 day past her due date. She has the most amazing temperament and is so full of life, she is a really happy foal and Opal is the happiest I have seen her in a long time. I have great plans for this little girl. She has so much attitude and spunk. Roger and Leonie Blackwell The first is a filly bred by John and Sue Cameron out of their bay TB mare Wilsden Green by our stallion Wellbrook Fire and Ice. They have named her Morningside Sunshine.The second is a 2 day old colt foal (still unnamed) out of our chestnut TB mare Cornwall Crystal by our Fire and Ice. They are both large well conformed foals and we are thrilled with them both. We are looking forward to the rest being born this season! Colonels Supermodel' (pend.) "Elle" (named so for her super long legs and good looks!) was born at the very respectable time of 7am on the 31st October Elle is a very tall palomino overo filly who is from Colonels Model (Bucky QH) by the well known Paint sire Deckline Bandit. Elle is a stunning girl who has won all our hearts so far and has both her mothers and her fathers good looks and great attitude. Will mature around 16 hands. 5 Foaling Gallery cont. Free Spirit Stud Wishes to announce the birth of their last foal for Free Spirit Stud would like to thank all visitors who attended their Open Day recently. If you were unable to come, just give us a call and we would be only too pleased to show you around. She is a full sibling to Anawa Sahara who is certainly proving to be as talented and trainable as his father. Tirari is being retained by the stud. Otis Born 4th November, 2006 Sire: Blackwood Springs Laredo (chestnut tobiano) Dam: Emporio (bay) Milton & Gaylene dejonge are more than happy with their beautiful BIG pinto colt but sadly he lost his mum at birth. As you can imagine a few very stressful days followed the arrival of this young chap but luckily he was born strong and healthy, which he needed to be to handle his four foster mums.! The first mum had lost twins a week prior and was a maiden mare with not a lot of milk so there wasn't much joy with this union. The second attempt at a new mum entailed a trip from Stanley to Lisa's place at Oldina where Opal had just foaled but her baby Miss Diva needed all she could get as she was a tad unwell herself. We altered our thoughts and just milked Opal through the night to at least give Otis some colostrum. The next day (Monday) he returned home to Stanley only to be informed that there was a mare at Barrington that had lost her foal that day, so Milton loaded the little fella back up and took him to visit that mare stopping once at Burnie to climb in the float and give him a feed. Sadly the mare wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, so back home to Stanley once again. On Tuesday afternoon Milton was informed by his local vet that a thoroughbred mare at Glengowrie had just lost her foal so in the wee hours of Wednesday morning Otis was back in the float and on his way to Nelly Jaehne's place. Much joy and lots of happy tears were shed as it was immediately obvious that this mare thought Otis was absolutely beautiful and couldn't wait to mother him!! Otis is still doing just great but I think Milton and Gaylene are missing their little orphan and although thrilled that he has a horsey mum they will be very happy on his return home to Stanley in a few months time!!! Anawa Tirari Born 11th November, 2006 Sire: Anawa Mahuska (chestnut tobero) Dam: Carington Park Captivation (bay) Blackwood Springs Arabians and Pintos Nev and Lou are very happy to announce the arrival of a pretty bay pinto filly, a full sister to Blackwood Springs Southern Belle. Very similar in markings but reverse sides. Maybe a future harness pair?!! Looking forward to next years baby from the same pairing...fingers crossed.!! Eckerly Cheyenne Ash is a lovely mare, rising 4 and approx 14hh. She is beautifully conformed sporting a lovely compact body and a really pretty face with cute tippy ears. Her siblings have been used in hunting, PC, Showing, stock work, trail riding, crowd entertainers, street parades and showjumping so the potential is there to put into action. I looked all about, a strange sight i did see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand, on the wall hung pictures, of far distant lands. With medals and badges, awards of all kinds, a sober thought, came through my mind. For this house was different, it was dark and dreary, i found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly. The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone, curled up on the floor, in this one bedroom home. The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder, not how I pictured, an Australian soldier. Was this the hero, of whom I'd just read? Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed? I realized the families, that I saw this night, owed their lives to these soldiers, who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, the children would play, and grownups would celebrate, a bright Christmas Day. They all enjoyed freedom, each month of the year, because of the soldiers, like the one lying here. I couldn't help wonder, how many lay alone, on a cold christmas eve, in a land far from home. The very thought brought, a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees, and started to cry. The soldier awakened, and I heard a rough voice, "Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice; I fight for freedom; I don't ask for more, my life is my God, my country, my corps." The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, so silent and still, and we both shivered, from the cold night's chill. I didn't want to leave, on that cold, dark, night, this guardian of honor, so willing to fight. Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure, whispered, "carry on Santa, its Christmas Day, all is secure." One look at my watch, and I knew he was right. "Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night."

There will be NO bedding available at the grounds. Stables must be cleaned out prior to departure or $50 fine will be enforced. Stable costs MUST be paid with entries or stables will not be reserved.
