2 WELCOME to BIG D RANCH Hello Fellow Cattlemen & Cattlewomen! Man Oh man what a year it has been! We ve had rain at all the right times and cattle prices are leveling out somewhat. The word CHINA has everyone excited and wondering how fast we can make it all happen. Beef demand is very strong and will be for the foreseeable future, with more and more people moving into the middle class segment and the world population not showing any signs of slowing down. For a family operation that makes it s living in the cattle business these are all great signs. THE DeSALVO FAMILY BETH, ISABELLA, PHILLIP, BEN & TONY When you evaluate the bulls this year I know without a doubt the first words out of your month will be LONGER-DEEPER-THICKER! This group of bulls excites me from many different angles. Not just longer, deeper, thicker, but easier fleshing as well. We have backed the big bulls down on their feed way back in the summer and you can t even tell it. They are keeping their flesh really great. The ultrasound data just keeps raising the bar each and every year. The key components that I ve been working on are showing their selves in this crop of bulls. Looking through these bulls and being able to look at what s coming down the line for next year and knowing what we just got done putting in the oven for the following year has me completely giddy (as Beth would say). I am really excited! Like I have always said we let the cattle do the talking for themselves and they are! We ve received lots of text, phone calls, and s this year about how good the cattle are preforming in our customers programs. We are hearing great things. Such as these are the biggest calves we have ever weaned to too many steers and not near enough heifer calves. We enjoy visiting with all of you about where your operations are going and how Big D Ranch genetics are helping you move forward. All of this is possible through genetics and as a bull producer you can rest assured that is our focus, to make every year better than the last. The females in this year s offering is of the same high quality that you have come to expect form Big D Ranch. The bred heifers will be primarily Ultrablack females that we AI ed to the really good BDR Big Guns 541A5 Brangus bull that we ve been using the last couple years and cleaned up with our Ultrablack heifer bull. The open heifers that will be ready to breed this fall will be Ultrablack females as well. A really nice set of slick haired, fleshy, uniformed set of girls here. New this year is our bull customer s heifer consignments. We have a great group of Ultrablack heifers coming off one farm that were AI ed to a Big D Ranch Brangus bull then exposed back to that same bull. A really good cow herd here! Last but not least, something we are excited about offering this year will be Lot 1! This lot will be a semen package deal that everyone has an opportunity to be with us on the monumental road that Big D Ranch is carving. You will have the opportunity to buy in on the semen produced from these three bulls at different levels depending on your operation s needs. These are three very exciting young lads that will see heavy use in our herd. We wanted to share them with our customers now instead of having you wait on the offspring of this outstanding trio. That is where we came up with the idea of offering a semen package deal on these three outstanding breed changing herd sires. Everyone knows that the most impactful way to influence your herd is through artificial insemination. We have had our eye on these three since their birth and they have never disappointed us. We normally keep just one bull from each offering but this trio has never separated themselves. So instead of taking all three of them out of the sale to keep all to ourselves, we wanted to share them with our customers. All three were collected and froze high quality semen at months of age to have some insurance in the tank on these three. 17 Commerical Bred Heifers This year s offering of Big D Ranch Commercial Ultrablack bred heifers is one that you will drive the wheels off your truck looking for. These females were AI ed on May 9th to BDR Big Guns 541A5 Brangus bull. The heifers were then pasture exposed to a Big D Ranch Ultrablack heifer bull from May 11th to July 27th. Approximately 35 head. Also this year is first time heifer consignor, Triple W Ranch. They will have a superb set of ultrablack heifers that were AI ed to Big D Ranch Brangus bull 661C on April 1st.
