1 ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF SERBIA DEVELOPMENT PLAN OF ARCHERY ASSOCIATION OF SERBIA IN 2011 MORE YOUNG ARCHERS, SERIOUS COOPERATION WITH BIG PLAYERS IN ARCHERY, MORE CLUBS, BETTER RESULTS, ORGANIZING SERIOUS TOURNAMENTS...

2 After rather than successful organization of Universiade in archery, there has been a widespread development of archery clubs in the country. Contrary to 12 existing clubs prior to the competition, we now boost 24 clubs which are growing every month. Certain kind of infrastructure had been left after the Universiade and deployed in a most efficient manner. With this impressive interest in archery Archery Association of Serbia is obliged not to miss such opportunity for development of this sport in Serbia. We can do that only if we have ambitious Plan of development. According to actual situation we have began this year with some totally new events that are in service of development of archery in Serbia. There is a new board with some new people who are enthusiasts and which desire is to improve archery in Serbia. We were guests on Russian national championship on their invitation. During that time we started with cooperation between Archery Association of Serbia and Russian Archery Federation, as one of most successful archery society in the world, trying to learn from them. Also, Serbian Archery Association organized National Indoor tournament in much higher level than ever before. This is just a small part that we intend to do during this year according to our plan which is much bigger than in former years thanks to big number of new archers. The Plan objectives are: 1. To continue with increasing the number of archery clubs 2. To support young and perspective archers 3. Cooperation with serious players in archery 4. To increase the capacity to participate in archery in all levels 5. Making better competition results

3 1. We think that clubs development and their numbers are some of main structural elements of good and strong archery society of one country. According to that in last few years we had a big growth of number of archery clubs and athletes. Nowadays we have 24 clubs. In our plan is forming at least two more clubs in two different cities till the end of this year with approximately 30 archers. Our goal is also to evolve current clubs into networks of sustainable, accessible and progressive clubs. We will try to train all clubs in organizing tournaments and to find some simulative measures for them in organizing competitions. However, our research shows us that many clubs are facing a number of obstacles in their task of increasing their membership. Facilities are one such area. Many clubs lack shooting space for new members and they also lack indoor shooting space. We will aim to devise a facilities strategy and bring funding to specific areas wherever possible. Our association is also in search for National training center, but it depends, mostly, of our financial situation. 2. We believe archery has a lot to offer young people and we wish to develop this area throughout improving our support for school and junior archery. Giving more young people a positive archery experience will not only result in greater participation rates, but it can also have positive benefits when these young people become adults and parents and to encourage their siblings to try the sport. We plan to realize this objective throughout archery events in schools organized by our clubs and Association and with organizing archery camp for young people. We also started serious cooperation with Serbian Olympic Committee trying to get some support for youth Olympic games. 3. Since we are at the stage of boosting of this sport we think that only cooperation with strong and successful archery societies we can learn how to direct our activities on this plan. Because of that we started serious cooperation with Russian Archery Federation. In that sense, it has been agreed that Russian team will have camp for practice purposes in Serbia. In that way, we hope to achieve invaluable experience, especially in Olympic section.

Thanks to our experience with Universiade we hope that during we will make conditions for organizing a serious tournament like European clubteams cup, which we hope to gain in This objective will be the result of the first four objectives. Except that for this objective we are planning to improve our training and judging structure. Coaching is a key aspect of any development plan. A well functioning coaching system is an important blood supply in any development system. Coaching will gain a greater profile in the coming year and we hope to help clubs and individual coaches develop. We have invested in coaching in recent years and we are going to continue with this investment. Coaching needs to be well managed going forward and attention will be devoted to this area. In order to do that, we have sent our representative to FITA course in France, and we intend to send one representative for tests for becoming an international judge. During we plan to organize two coaching courses level 1 and 2. With this our goal is to make next generation of coaches that will be suitable for new, young, archer generation. MAIN GOAL: Further development has main goal to advertise archery in order to make it a national sport. In that sense, beside numerous activities that we mentioned in this text we have started participation in reality shows on most popular TV station in Serbia, advertising shooting in shopping malls and various archery schools. PROBLEMS: practically annulled. Due to economic crisis, the budget in our sport has been cut. International manifestations that we held, and which welcomed regional countries on reciprocity basis, are in question, and our visit to international competitions is We have limited resources that are not able to withstand with growing of this sport in our country.

5 Except one full-time paid trainer we do not have any other person that is full time paid for its activities in our Association. The biggest number of our working is based on enthusiasm. Also we have big problem in buying archery equipment. If some person wants to buy it needs a lot of documents approved by Ministry of Interior because according to our law archery sport equipment is weapon. And if that person get license we do not have in Serbia archery equipment shop and buying abroad is too complicated because of the law (it is like we are buying weapons in the foreign countries). So, we have at least 200 potential archers above number that we mentioned in the beginning of this text, but they are not able to buy archery equipment and clubs don't have enough of their equipment to start training with this group. Because of that we are not able to implement those archers in our clubs. During this year we will try to speak with Ministry of Interior to resolve this problem. In order to regroup and continue activities on the same level, we will need help from FITA, which will enable us to allocate funds properly, and keep the high level of efficiency and development. Your help would consist of: 1. Archery material: beginner recurve and compound bows (recurve lbs, compound not above 50 lbs), arrows and equipment for these bows (stabilizations, sights, scopes, etc.), one professional Archery timer (a complete electronic target timing system), at least 500 professional FITA faces for indoor and 500 for outdoor (compound and recurve), 3D targets for development of this kind of archery, at least three professional bow press (many clubs are trying to made bow presses, but it can jeopardize the safety of the person who are working with it, so we want to take appropriate steps). 2. Trainer for recurve and compound in our country for a short visit. Their task would be to train our young perspective athletes and to show the way to our coaches. Also it will be helpful if we get some written or electronic materials about these themes. 3. Help in sending a judge and trainer to courses for continental judge and FITA trainer. 4. Support in organizing regional tournament, with ultimate goal to organize European Gran Prix.
