Box 639,Canyonville, OR Range Status Phone: (541) Website: Newsletter for August 2015 NEXT GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING IS SUNDAY August 2nd, 2015 AT 2:00P.M. Starting in September 2015, the Membership Meeting s will be held on the second Sunday of the month, except in May only (Mothers Day), it will revert to the 1st Sunday of the month. This will allow us to hold a Membership meeting each month of the year, other than during a very SPECIAL closure authorized by The Board of Directors. Also the Board of Directors voted to hold monthly Board meetings, separate from the Membership meetings, as they seem to fall short, and in the way of our Membership meetings. This will allow the Board to discuss agenda items in full at the Board Meeting, and with more interaction by each of the Board members. Remember that Club election of the officers will be held at the November Membership meeting. If you are interested in a Board position, please contact the Secretary. Bill Regina has notified the Board that after 7 years, he will be no longer the Club Treasurer. Bill has offered to sit with any person that is interested in the Treasurer s position, and update them on the bookkeeping System that is used by the Club. Bill has provided a very special service to the Club, and he will be missed, but he has given us 5 months to allow us to find a replacement to fill this upcoming void. We have received word that Clarence Mills is interested in the Treasurer s position, and the Board set a Board of Directors meeting to meet, interview and talk to Clarence about this position. Bill Regina was present to explain the requirements and duties of the position. The Board has approved Clarence to begin working with Bill Regina to obtain the knowledge that is required for the Treasurers position. Bruce Bullard, Director-at-Large has taken a job in Washingon, and is buying a home out of state. He has therefore resigned his position on the Board. We will miss Bruce, and his wisdom. Chris Noll, Vice President has appointed Chuck Spindel to fulfill the term of Directorat-Large.

NEW PISTOL BOWLING PIN SHOOT PLANNED FOR - SATURDAY, AUGUST 15TH, 2015: ALL NEW EVENT BEING ORGANIZED AND RUN BY CLUB MEMBER CLARENCE MILLS, SO COME OUT AND ENJOY THE FUN, AND ITS BETTER THAN THROWING BASEBALLS AT THE CARNIVAL. Signup at 9:30AM - Shoot starts at 10:00AM. ENTRY FEE: $5.00 PER PERSON 22 CAL RIFLE & PISTOL COMBINED STEEL CHALLENGE - SATURDAY, AUGUST 22ND, 2015: Sign-in at 9:30am, Shoot at 10:00 am. $5 Entry Fee PER FIREARM Come and bring your 22 rifle and Pistol and enjoy shooting at the Steel Targets.. but no Magnum, Tracers, Armor Piercing, or Incendiary Shells Allowed. Bring at least 125 rounds each for the 22 rifle & for your Pistol (This is a timed and scored event). FUN!! 2

Shooters $.00 The 22 Rifle & Pistol Steel Challenge will be combined into one event in August, and a New Event BOWLING PIN SHOOT WILL BE ADDED ON AUGUST 15TH, see Bill Regina Treasurer JULY(PARTIAL) SHOOT TOTALS $ Club Members Bernie & Laura McClenden of Myrtle Creek donated 8 plastic bags filled with empty water bottles, as a donation fund to the Club. Bernie also will donate Firewood that needs to be picked up and split for use in our wood stove on the 50 Yard Range, during the cold winter months. Thank you both for these donation s. Clarence Mills is bringing a New Event to the Club, starting August 15th, called the PISTOL BOWLING PIN SHOOT. Bowling Pins are placed on a Flat Steel Table and the bowling pin must be totally shot off the Table in order to be counted. Sounds easier than it is to do, bring any Pistol (No Magnums), as you may be able to blow them off much better than you think. The Entry Fee is $5 so come, make some noise, and have some fun. We want to extend a thank you to James Eveland Painting and Sandblasting. Chad Mills, son of Clarence, works for Curtis and they were able to get time in their shop on Kester Road. Along with the shop time, came the use of their Wire Welder, Chop Saw, Forklift, etc., which was everything that was needed to construct the metal tables. They were also granted the use of their Flatbed trailer to transport both tables in one trip. 4 This is a new wall that was built on Tuesday, July 7th, by Bill Regina, Manny Silva & Tom Huston at the Pistol Range. This will allow us to increase the number of Bays from 4 to 6. This addition will allow more shooters to use our Retrieval System during the Rainey Weather as Winter approaches, and never leave the Pistol Enclosure. Bill Regina on the 8th, Wednesday evening took down the cables at the Retrieval System and; on Thursday 7/9 Morning, Lynn Herbert brought his backhoe to backfill the wall and add existing dirt to the height of the berm at the end of the Pistol Range. The additional bays will be installed in August, along with handrails at the Handicap Ramp and repainting the colored shooting lines inside the Enclosure Building. Red Area is for shooters only, and spectators & nonshooters are to stay back behind the Yellow Line. Berm after Lynn built-up the height of berm Looking at the wall and the filled berm Our old neighbors dumped Asphalt on our property and it was about 3 thick and as hard as Concrete, Lynn Herbert used his Backhoe to remove and replace on neighbors property. The other picture shows Bill Regina thanking Lynn Herbert for his taking time off work to help the Club with the Pistol Range Improvement and cleaning up the Club s Property. We are very grateful for Lynn s help and lumber donations he has made to build the Storage Shed. 4

6 This is a picture of Bob Valk, owner of Modesto Tent & Awning (MTA), located in Modesto, CA, however he has a home here in Riddle which has become his second home. Bob has made our many Signs, Banners, Flags, Targets for the Club, and is an avid Club member that was trying out his new Henry 22LR Pump Action Rifle, the last part of June. Bob also donated the Club Emblems for your car or truck windows. I feel terrible that I have not recognized his generous donations to our Club. If you are at the Club, and see Bob, please tell him Thanks for his total generous dedication to our Club. While his business is in California, his heart now yearns for Oregon Trees and Umpqua River Waterways, the low traffic, Clean Air, and friends that he has at our Club. The flag that hangs in our Clubhouse, and the one that fly s under the American Flag, was made by Bob s wonderful crew at Modesto Tent & Awning. Our Garage Door was installed on Tuesday, July 7th by Overhead Doors of Roseburg. Chris Noll has donated the motor so it now can be opened and closed with a remote button, how great. The Construction Team of Byron Beaulieu & Phil Lanterman have completed the work that they had agreed to construct. The exterior & interior doors are in-place and need the hardware installed. I invite you to come and view our new shed, and the amazing job Byron & Phil did and their many hours of work and the gas expense they provided as their donation to the Club. Great Job, Guys!! Debbie Blanchard has asked that anyone having an old pair of denims (Levi s, Wanglers, Lee s, etc.) could donate them for Debbie, just bring to the Clubhouse. She intends to make Gun Rest Support Bags out of the legs of the jeans. Lets give Debbie enough to keep her busy on her sewing machine, Ha Ha come on you long legged buckaroos, get busy and out of those old pants. She must have been looking at my jeans, they have been through the washer many times. Oh well The Board has selected our Cleanup Day as Saturday, August 1st, from 8:00am to 12:00pm. The Club will be cooking & providing a 12 pm for all the workers that can come out to the Club and have fun, work a little, and meet & greet other members.. We will close all Ranges, so we can spread out and cover the items of work. We have ed and snail mailed notices for the items of work to be done at the Ranges. The Ranges will be Re-opened at 1pm until 6pm for any shooters that are wanting to use the Ranges, on the First Day of August. 6

7 the On Wednesday, July 1st, between 8am & 12pm the Roof Sheeting was placed on the Storage Shed by ; 5 people: Bryon Beaulieu, Phil Lanterman and his brother Gary, Bill Regina, and Manny Silva who did an outstanding job. The Roof is now ready to paper and then to install Proposed Metal Roofing. John Eyers was born on December 24, 1936 in Klamath Falls. In 1944 the family moved to Grants Pass, John went to Grants Pass High School where he graduated in John married Betty Earline Duckworth on January 8, 1959 He served in the Navy as a Radar Technician on two ships, the Tolovana and Navasola and used his experience by volunteering as a rescue diver for the Josephine County Sheriff s Department. John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught Oregon Hunter Safety Programs for over 30 years, and was a respected expert on Archery and weapons, making custom gun stocks at his home shop. John was Secretary & President, and a Lifetime Member of the Club. He had several Heart Attacks, and could not continue as President for another year, so did not run in November I remember as an example of many questions, where is the location of the Septic Tank? we said lets call John, who would know where it was. We will all miss John s knowledge and his smile; may you rest in peace John, and many of us old-timers will continue to have many fond memories of you. John would have been happy to see the Board of Directors discuss, determine by measurement the existing equipment and future needs for Storage, including the size of an adequate workshop, before it was submitted to the membership at our monthly meeting, for members approval. We extended the Excavation area and placed French drains and less steeper slopes, which held up last winter, with very little erosion. The slab is placed on 4 of drain rock, with a moisture barrier, and 2 sand cushion, which allows the Concrete Slab to cure both the top of slab & bottom of slab equally, after forming, rebar and concrete placement. In short the Storage Shed will be a fixture at our Club for many years to come. I want to take this opportunity to Thank all the members for their Storage Shed donations, as we continue make our Range Improvements, because of the generous donations made by members. 7
