6 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 6 A MESSAGE FROM ALNETA MITCHELL Last year 2012 some of the members took left over beans home with them in my containers (half-gallon and gallon jars). At that time I asked those people to bring the jars back to me at the June 2012 Meeting. I have not had the jars returned yet. Please bring them to the May regular meeting. If you choose to keep the jars, cook beans and bring them in "my" jars. This is the best way I have of transporting beans to the National Club Hunt. If I don't have the jars, I don't cook beans!!!!. Alneta Mitchell ************************************************ TICKS Everyone beware the Ticks are out in full force this year because of having mild winters for at least the past two years. Below is a link with information about ticks: Below is a link about tick prevention:

7 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 7 Club Outing April 21st On Sunday, April 21 st, a group of ITTHC ers ventured to a ghost town that shall remain unnamed. Since we had problems last year with an outing, I suppose this is best. There were some world Class detectorist in this group of 40. A light rain was clearing as we parked on the land. Among the group were men, women and children with one goal, to find something good. Every time something was found, the word would spread across the 300 acres. To the group of hunters that did not find anything, it seemed to be a fruitless trip. But the items found by the determined were: 1901 Barber Dime xf+ Len Eames, 1911D Barber Dime xf+ Doris Bohuslavicky, Barber Half and Barber Quarter Mac Adams, Barber Quarter Tyler Adams, Trade token, toy car, military button, Ken Fanning, 1916D Penny Matt Fortney, 1897 Indian Head Penny Juan Ortegon, Buffalo Nickel John Hayworth, 1916D Penny Ronnie Duncan, 1908 Barber Quarter Shawson Hebert. I m sure my list is incomplete so my apologies to those I left out. My observation about the outing is while many excellent hunters did not find anything, there were some good items found. And Lee Wierzchowski found another Birthday. Wally Dick

8 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 8 Indian Territory Treasure Hunt Timeline 1972 May 28 - ITTHC held its first National Hunt at the Tulsa KOA Campgrounds, 193 rd E. Ave. & I -44. The National Hunt Chairmen were Jerry Shed & Terry Humphries. There were 262 entrants. The entry fee was $10. The hunt boasted over $4,000 in coins and prizes. The coins alone were valued at over $2,000. Coin prizes consisted of silver dollars dated from 1878 to 1925, Barber halves, quarters and dimes, V-nickels, Seated Liberty and Mercury dimes, Walking Liberty halves and more. All coins buried were dated 1930 or before. The 15 metal detectors of various brands included as prizes were valued at over $1,000. The hunt was billed in the newsletter as the 1 st Annual "Mud Hunt" due to heavy rainfall during the hunt. There were 355 entrants in the coin hunts and 175 in the Target Hunt. The National Hunt Chairman was Bob Boucher. Entrants came from Maryland, Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma. Many took in the Wewoka Hunt the next day. Bill Mahan of D-Tex was there along with "professional treasure hunter" Glen Beaman, just back from a successful treasure venture in the Caribbean. Due to heavy rain late entries were light. This and

9 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 9 the high price of silver didn't supply sufficient starting capital for next year's National Hunt. The estimated cost of this hunt was $7,000. Many feared this might have been the last "silver hunt" the club could afford due to high silver prices May 25-4 th Annual ITTHC National Hunt at the Port of Catoosa. There were 235 entries from 13 states and quite a bit of rain. Jim Webb brought a "portable house", which held the prizes. The National Hunt Chairman was Bob Boucher. A free Club Night Hunt was held for the first time May 30-5 th Annual ITTHC National Hunt at the NE corner of Apache & Harvard. There were approximately 200 entries in the hunt. Cathy Anglin won the $5 gold coin. Noreen Grufik, as she had every year, tabulated Target Hunt entries. The Kid's Hunt had 30 entries and a Bounty Hunter detector as one of the prizes. There were many jackpot jar caches buried. Earl Foster found the one donated by Terry Humphries, full of old coins worth $ pennies and 9 tokens were thrown into the hay for kids 6 and under. There were 175 entries in the National Hunt from 12 states. There were only 2 women in the Target Hunt, Pat Lawson, who found more target points than 42 men, and Billye Garson, who found more than her husband Jerry. Volunteers included National Hunt Chairman - Terry Humphries, National Hunt Marshall - O.E. "Nick" Nichols, and Children's Hay Hunt - Jeanie Webb May 28-7 th Annual ITTHC National Hunt at the NE corner of Apache & Harvard. Everybody was surprised that it didn't rain at all during the hunts. Kenneth Hughes found the jar cache

10 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 10 and was so pleased he left without hunting for anything else. Terry Humphries reportedly got pretty badly sunburned. The drawing was for a Fisher 990 detector, with 2 coils, detector bag, and headphones, valued at $350 and a 10-ounce silver bar valued at $90. Member Glenn Stanart won the detector. He was so excited he ran off without his box and instruction book. Member Bill Smith won the 10 ounce silver bar. Tickets were sold for $1 each or 6 for $5. The member selling the most tickets received a 5 peso gold coin. Ernie Hill won the coin. For the first time, ITTHC held a 2-day National Hunt.
