4 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 4 Community Service Project Community Service Project 4 For over twelve years, ITTHC has chosen to assist the Broken Arrow Neighbors Association (BAN) as the focus of our club s community service project. BAN is a nonprofit organization and is celebrating its 32 nd year of serving the needs of less fortunate citizens in our local community. To read more about BAN, check out their website at: Again this year, we will continue to support BAN with the following two main projects: Back-to-School and Christmas. In addition, throughout the year, we will continue to collect items from BAN s Needs List to help stock their pantries and supplies. There is always a high demand for items such as canned goods, boxed food items, and toiletries. We will be happy to deliver items club members bring to any of our meetings and/or outings. Check out the Current Needs List in this month s newsletter and try to contribute if you can. Thank you for helping this very worthy cause! Jean Dick and Marge Wierzchowski

6 I.T.T.H.C. Treasure News Page 6 6 NATIONAL HUNT NOTES The time is drawing near for the 45th Annual Indian Territory Treasure Hunt. Friday, May 27th, the stringing and gridding of the hunt fields will be done. The stringing crew will be getting started at 10:00am. We will set up tables and chairs on Saturday morning. Saturday, May 28th is the first B-Day. This will be the day we will bury ("bury" meaning "Just barely under the dirt!") the first wave of coins and tokens for Saturday's hunts. The burying of coins and other items will start 9:00 to 9:30AM. There will be reburying to do Sunday morning for the final day of hunts. Try to be there between 7:30AM and 8:00AM on Sunday morning. We need ALL club members to help with this burying, the more there are, the less work it is for everyone. Don t forget May 10th is the cutoff date for the early entry fee. Make sure your entry is postmarked by May 10th. The hunt flyer & entry blank only are on the "Upcoming Events" link at: if you have any questions ask the Hunt Masters: Cody Reese at creesejr@hotmail.com or Roger Eaton at reaton61@aol.com Detector Raffle - Fund Raiser Tickets are now available for the Detector Fund Raiser. For a $1.00 donation one ticket is given to the donor and for a $5.00 donation the donor will receive 6 tickets. This year we will be running the contest for the top dollar funds raised by club members. There will be prizes for the top sellers. Tickets will be available for check out at the meeting or contact us if you need them mailed or delivered. B - I - N - G - O Saturday - May 28rd Remember to join us for some fun after supper, before the night hunt. There will be bingo for both cash and prizes and maybe even some surprises! Tickets will be on sale all day Saturday for you to reserve your bingo cards. * Club members are encouraged to bring prize donations to contribute to the fun.* CONCESSIONS As the coordinator for the concession stand during the National Hunt, I really need all the help I can get to work the concessions. I will have a sign up sheet at the May meeting for you to sign up for 2-hour time slots. (You are welcome to work as long as you wish.) It would be great if you can help provide some of the following items to keep the club from having to purchase them, which will help keep the expense down and increase the profits for the club. Ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, relish, sliced cheese, shredded cheese, and of course DESSERTS!!! There will be a sign up sheet for these items at the club meeting. If you are not there, and want to bring something, call or me so that we don't have too many of one item and not enough of something else. I also need to know by May 19th if you will be providing any of them. Remember, this is a fund-raiser for YOUR club, and to make it successful YOU need to help make it work!!! Thank you in advance for your help!!! Cathy Young Phone: (918) clyoung123@yahoo.com

And if you are buying online anyway, always check at Amazon for their pricing through the ITTHC link. Amazon will usually have the best price on most items and many will have free shipping. And if you join Amazon Prime you get unlimited FREE Two Day Shipping and One Day Shipping for $3.99 per item on most orders. And there are more benefits to being an Amazon Prime member. Just remember to click to Amazon through the link on the ITTHC Homepage before searching for & purchasing your item and the club will get credit. Again a Big Thank You to all of you that have already purchased through the ITTHC Homepage link to Amazon. Tell all of your friends, relatives, and fellow treasure hunters around the country. Below is what the Amazon Associate link looks like and where it is located on the ITTHC Homepage: The Prime membership is $99. How Metal Detectors Work Metal detectors work by transmitting an electromagnetic field from the search coil into the ground. Any metal objects (targets) within the electromagnetic field will become energised and retransmit an electromagnetic field of their own. The detector s search coil receives the retransmitted field and alerts the user by producing a target response. Minelab metal detectors are capable of discriminating between different target types and can be set to ignore unwanted targets. 1. Battery The battery provides power to the detector. 2. Control Box The control box contains the detector s electronics. This is where the transmit signal is generated and the receive signal is processed and converted into a target response. 3. Search Coil The detector s search coil transmits the electromagnetic field into the ground and receives the return electromagnetic field from a target. 4. Transmit Electromagnetic Field (visual representation only - blue) The transmit electromagnetic field energises targets to enable them to be detected. 5. Target A target is any metal object that can be detected by a metal detector. In this example, the detected target is treasure, which is a good (accepted) target. 6. Unwanted Target Unwanted targets are generally ferrous (attracted to a magnet), such as nails, but can also be non-ferrous, such as bottle tops. If the metal detector is set to reject unwanted targets then a target response will not be produced for those targets. 7. Receive Electromagnetic Field (visual representation only - yellow) The receive electromagnetic field is generated from energized targets and is received by the search coil. Target Response (visual representation only - green) When a good (accepted) target is detected the metal detector will produce an audible response, such as a beep or change in tone. Many Minelab detectors also provide a visual display of target information.
