1 Volume 33 OCTOBER 2017 Issue 10 THE NEWSLETTER FOR THE ONTARIO ROD & GUN CLUB Inc Trimble Road, Ontario NY, (315) Our website is now open Come visit the site Club Officers and Directors President: Ken Paul Vice President Chris Ranson Secretary Bill Palermo Treasurer Don Anderson Board Chairman Steve Verdi Elected members of the Board of Directors Jeff Aman Bill Burger Keith Bourgeois Andy Dickenson Robin Jones Dave Kielon Tony Massimi Jarred Savory Mike Spryn Pete Sundquist Doug Trumpowsky Ralph Wroblewski Life Members of the Board of Directors Chuck Allen Nancy Anderson Nancy Buyze Bill Dostman I Rich Haywood Ken Henderson Jim Mater Lee McMullen Gary Partridge Steve Verdi LAWN MAINTENANCE Lawn maintenance will continue until the first snowfall. Please be aware that the long-range will be closed until the lawn crew as to the east of trap number one. We ask that you cooperate and refrain from shooting on the long-range during lawn maintenance. Lawn maintenance begins at about 9 AM on Fridays and will continue until about noon. If the job is completed prior to noon you are welcome to use the long-range at that time. The Eagles range will be open the usual hours. Special thanks to Bob Legerwood for stepping in and doing the lawn cutting in my absence. Additional thanks goes out to all those (whose names I can't remember at this time) who filled in and assisted Bob with the lawn maintenance. THE CLUB TRAP CHAMPIONSHI MATCH The club trap shooting championship was held on Sunday September 17 th which found good weather, with copious amounts of sunshine and warm temperatures. However, only six shooters came to challenge each other and the clays. The program was originally scheduled for fifty16 yard targets and 50 wobble targets. However, due to the small turnout, Steve Verdi modified the match program to twenty five 16 yard targets and 25 wobble targets. To some of the shooters who have never shot wobble targets it was a real challenge. When the shooting was complete and the smoke cleared the air the champion of this event was Dave Mueller. Dave's name will now go on the trap champion trophy THE WELL ARMED WOMAN AT ORGC by Frankie LaMarca We are proud to announce The Well Armed Woman Ontario, New York Chapter was approved unanimously by our Board in August. ORGC recognizes the largest growing demographic in firearm ownership is women, and have committed to the sponsorship of this nationally recognized nonprofit organization that has 334 chapters in 49 states. Each unique chapter creates opportunities for women to be introduced to issues important to women shooters, learn safe gun handling skills and train together. The familiar faces dedicated to the growth of TWAW at ORGC are Chapter Leader Frankie LaMarca and Co-Leaders Robin Jones, Heidi Jensen and Marlene Cassata. They have committed to assuring this program will be an enriching experience for women. What makes TWAW different? It is a structure combining classroom and range time based on the members. No two chapters are alike, and it is not a one-size-fits-all women s training session. It s about building trust, relationships, confidence and success over time based on each member s needs and interest. We plan to have monthly information in this publication. We invite you to like us on Facebook TWAW Ontario, NY Chapter. To join and discover the benefits, go to Questions can be addressed to any of the Leaders, or at twawontariony@gmail.com. Join us. It will be fun!

2 PAGE 2 OCTOBERE 2017 The Scatter Sheet ONTARIO ROD & GUN CLUB HAS A NEW PRACTICE ARCHERY Attention archers! The club now offers practice with your bow. We have three freestanding shooting bags placed at 20, 30, and 40 yards for you to practice your archery skills. We also have a life-size buck target placed at 20 yards. You may move the deer target to any of the other yardages. Dear hunters, take note, we also have a 15 foot ladder stand from which to shoot. You can shout 20 yards to 40 yards. When shooting from the ladder stand you must wear a safety tree stand harness! There will be a harness in the mailbox for you to use, or you can bring your own. If you are caught shooting from the ladder stand without a harness on you will be asked to leave the first time and then after that you will not be allowed to use the range. The use of broad heads on ORGC targets is not allowed!!! If you are caught shooting broad heads into RGC targets you will be required to buy new targets! If you wish to use Broadhead's on the practice range you may bring your own targets into which you may shoot Broadhead's. Otherwise Broadhead's are strictly forbidden for use into ORGC targets. The archery practice range is located off the east driveway just past the East trap house. Look for the red wooden arrow and red marking tape in the trees. There is a stand with tubes to hold your bow and arrows. The archery practice range for ORGC members and guests is due to the efforts and hard work of Doug & Sharon Trumpowsky. Thank you Doug & Sharon! USPSA MATCHES ARE SCHEDULED AT THE CLUB! This year ORGC is now the newest USPSA member club in New York State. Classifiers and match programs are scheduled at the club with a USPSA pistol match scheduled for October 28 th at the club. This is a great opportunity to grab your pistol to come out and compete! No matter what pistol is your favorite, USPSA has a division for you. Production is the most popular class. Any unmodified pistols qualify. Like shooting with a red dot on your pistol? Carry Optics is your division. Love those 45 automatics? Single Stack division; USPSA has a division for you! So keep your eye on the ORGC website and the ORGC calendar for our first USPSA match! Any questions contact Keith Bourgeois at keith@teamrangelog.com. TUESDAY NIGHT TRAP SHOOTING CONTINUES Come join us for a round or two of trap under the lights. The trap fields are open to the public every Tuesday night. Bring a friend and have some friendly competition. Club is open 5-9PM. The Eagles Range will be open for those who wish to shoot and sight in their guns. Hot and cold beverages and snacks are available in the club house. YOUTH SHOOTING PROGRAM The Ontario Rod and Gun Club concludes this years youth shooting program. Many thanks go out to all those members and parents who assisted with this year's youth program. Although the turnout for this program was not spectacular but those who did participate had great enjoyment learning to shoot rifles and shotguns offered in the program. We look forward to next year where more youth will be interested in participating in this program. We also hope that those who did participate assisting with this program will also return to again help teach these young folks the joy and safety of firearms. Just as this past year the program is free to children of club members ages 12 to 17 years old. Children whose parents are not members of the club will pay a fee of $20 per year. Ammunition and targets are provided by the club. Some guns will be available for those who do not own their own firearms. See Steve Verdi for more detailed information. Special thanks to the Buffalo Gun Center Inc. for their help by giving us a discount on a case of.22 caliber ammunition to be used in our Youth Shooting program. This is just a reminder: ACCESS THRU THE MANGATE TO THE S BEGINS AT 9:05 AM - ENDS AT9:00 PM Any earlier and your FOB will not work. Make sure you are out of the ranges before 9:00 PM Additionally, normal shooting hours are from 9 AM until DUSK daily. Please adhere to this schedule in consideration of our neighbors

Competitors found favorable conditions with cool temperatures with 2015 light winds. We are always looking for new shooters to compete for the Ontario Rod and Gun Club team. Ladies, we encourage you to come out and compete under the Ontario banner, as well as competing against other ladies in the league. Juniors are also welcome to compete under the Ontario banner as well as competing against other juniors in the league. Shooters, don't be shy, if you do not want to go out to the clubs by yourself, team up with other shooters and enjoy the ride to the various clubs. A lot of BS can go on in the car before and after the event. Have fun! Most clubs have breakfast and lunch available for each event. There are beverages, both alcohol and nonalcoholic beverages for your enjoyment. For further information see Bill Palermo at the club on Tuesdays or Sundays or give him a call at (585) As of the printing of this newsletter the team scores have yet to be posted. As soon as the scores are posted on the Inland Waters League website the scores will be posted at the clubhouse. ORIENTATION All new club members in order to use the rifle and pistol ranges you must have attended and have passed the ORIEN- TATION. To register for the next Range Orientation class to be conducted on OCTOBER 21 st ;you will need to contact range coordinator - Gary Partridge (585) or Bill Palermo (585) or Steve Verdi (585) for any questions you may have. The Range Orientation begins at 9 AM in the clubhouse and will run to about noon time depending on the number of participants. Try to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to find a seat. You may want to bring pencil and paper to be able to take notes. When attending the Range Orientation, you will need to have eye and ear protection for the range exercise. If you plan on using rifles, pistols, and shotguns with slugs, all firearms need to be in some type of a case, be it a hard case, a soft case, or a sock. All firearms must be unloaded and the action open at all times unless you are on the firing line actually shooting. You will need five rounds of ammunition for each firearm you bring to the orientation. All firearms and ammunition are to be locked in your vehicle until instructed to retrieve them. The operation of the gun club is more than members coming out and using the facilities. It requires the hard work of ALL the members to put in time and effort with the maintenance of the grounds the buildings and the mechanical works of the facility. When you joined the club you agreed to put in a minimum of eight hours over the membership year to assist with maintaining the facilities. Additionally, when various matches and programs are scheduled, members need to step up and assist with setting up and preparing for the program along with helping to make the progam run smoothly. One program on the docket is the Inland Waters Trap League which we will host on the weekend of October 21 st and 22 nd. We need scorekeepers and members to be able to keep the trap houses loaded. We will also need to have someone in the kitchen to have breakfast and lunch available for shooters. On the weekend of October 13 th and 14 th a 3 gun match is scheduled and we need assistance on Friday, October 13 th for set up of this program. On the following weekend, October 28th and 29 th a USPSA match is scheduled and we need to have assistance for set up on Saturday the 28 th and help running the event on Sunday the 29 th. Now is the time for members to step up and assist with these programs. All these programs earn money for the club. Without your help these programs may go away.
