The June 16, 3 rd Annual Cars Under The Stars event hosted by MAMA (Mississippi Automotive Manufacturers Association) at Holmes Community College in Ridgeland was a huge success! Lots of classic cars filled the parking lot, presentations by Lindsey Chappell, current editor of Automotive News magazine, and Lt. Governor Phil Bryant were very informative and entertaining, the food was great and the fellowship was even better!! Planning for the 2010 event has already started. Shown below are a few pictures taken at last month's event. We hope to have many more pictures added to the MCC website in a few days. 5 The 2009 Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show will soon be here! Me and my sweet ride will be going for the Top Car Award and Most Handsome Award at this year s Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show. You got a problem with that? We are pleased to advise that the 6 th Annual 2009 Scarecrow Cruise & Car Show has been scheduled for October and will once again be at the usual location on Main Street in Madison. One big addition to the 2009 event includes the Grillin For Life BBQ cookoff. This is a huge annual event that brings more than 50 BBQ teams in from all parts of the Southeast. The Scarecrow Car Show, Shopping for SIDS and Grillin For Life will all combine to make the 2009 event bigger and better than ever! 6 MCC s Saturday, July 11, cruise-in will be from 6pm to 8:30pm at the new Renaissance at Colony Park in Ridgeland. From Jackson take Ridgeland exit 105C off I- 55, pass over the interstate and enter from the main entrance off Old Agency Road. From Madison take exit 105B which will also take you to the main entrance. A great location with plenty of parking, easy access to I-55, several great eating establishments from casual to fine dining and many outstanding stores for the ladies makes this an ideal location for our monthly cruise-ins. As you enter the main entrance off Old Agency Road you will be very impressed by the beautiful water fountains and colorful landscaping that is second to none. Follow the CAR SHOW signs where we will be playing oldies music and will be giving out door prizes. We are expecting a big turn out so plan to arrive early. Hope to see all of you there! Hope to see everyone Saturday. MCC Member Bob Jackman of Brandon will soon be on the television program Mississippi Roads! Sometime in August or September TV personality Walt Grayson will host his weekly program that will include 8 to 10 minutes about Bob Jackman's collection of over 4,000 miniature cars. It's quite a story given Bob's entire home has been taken over by his collection. With a little luck, Bob's wife, Lori, will also appear on the program and we will all learn why she has tolerated Bob's obsession for so many years. As soon as we know the exact date and time of the program we will let you know. Past Meets Present This photo of a 2010 Chevy Camaro and a 1969 Chevy Camaro was taken last month by local artist and MCC member Mark Millet. Mark plans to use this photo as a basis for a painting and numbered prints that he will be doing as part of his works relating to classic cars and nostalgic places. As the prints become available we will let you know so that you can be one of the first to own one of these limited prints. If they are as good as his other works of art they will be GREAT! These beautiful automobiles are owned by MCC members Mike Martin & Todd McRaney.

7 Smokey and the Bandit Lives On! You have to be a fan of the Pontiac Trans Am and the movie Smokey and the Bandit to appreciate this. This unique road trip is available to anyone interested and all cars are welcome to join. I went on the 3rd annual Bandit Run in May. The trip began in Branson, MO, stopped in Hot springs, AR, Memphis, TN, Nashville, TN, Pigeon Forge, TN and Braselton, GA. Sponsors were Restore A Muscle Car and Year One. It was 6 days long and anyone can pick up or leave off at any point. The Sherriff Buford T. Justice patrol car was recreated along with Snowman's (Jerry Reed) tractor/trailer. Jerry's family met us in Nashville where the trailer doors were opened to reveal a memorial tribute to Jerry Reed. They plan to make the whole trip next year and we are working to get Burt Reynolds and Sally Field involved somehow. 118 people were registered and more than 60 Trans Am's were in route at any given time. The event ended by driving on the Lanier Motor Speedway. Last year the group actually ran on the Bristol Motor Speedway. Next year s event is not planned yet, however, for those that may be interested in the joining The 2010 Bandit Run they can stay posted on the website You can scroll down the homepage for this site and see albums and videos of this year s event. It was truly a great time and was certainly family friendly. Many thanks to MCC member Mike Hudgins of Madison for providing this Smokey and the Bandit write-up. Hot Rod Power Tour! Last month MCC club members Mike Martin, Bill Price and Mike McElroy had a great time traveling with the Hot Rod Power Tour. This is the biggest road trip tour in the Nation. Almost 5000 cars were registered for all or part of the Tour. The Tour this year started at last year's ending point, Madison, Wisconsin. Traveling about 200 miles a day the Tour went through Racine, WI, Chicago, IL, Detroit, Dayton, OH, Somerset, KY and ended up at the Motorplex at Bristol, TN. Mike took his 1971 Oldsmobile 442 and Bill took his

8 1967 Chevrolet Malibu. They met the Tour at Somerset KY and traveled on with them to Bristol. The road trip was the most fun as the Tour stays off of the interstate highways and travels on less traveled roads through the center of many small towns. The town folks would turn out in mass to wave as the thousands of cars of most every description traveled by. The MCC club members are looking forward to going on the tour again and would recommend it to all MCC members. This part of the write-up was provided by MCC member Mike Martin of Madison. An interesting thing happened during our brief run with the Hot Rod Power Tour. As you know, Mike took his newly finished 71 Olds 442 on the tour. It ran pretty flawlessly and even at times, recorded speeds in excess of 53 miles per hour. One particularly notable event occurred on Friday morning as we were loading up and leaving the hotel. Mike's car has an ignition cut off switch and he forgot to switch it on. Of course the car would not start and he subsequently filled the entire exhaust system with gas fumes. You can imagine what happened when he realized that the switch was the reason the car would not start --- and then tried to start the car. Some thought that the sonic boom was from possible shuttle landing or maybe a flight from the nearby Air Force base. After the fear of a possible terrorist attack diminished and the smoke started to clear around the white Oldsmobile, Mike s innocent face was there to instill comfort. His mufflers are now a size larger and several bushes will need a year or so to recover. No doubt, the car is really nice and gets a lot of attention. For those of you that still have not renewed your MCC memberships... Several members that did not renew their memberships were left on the distribution lists to continue getting the monthly newsletter with the thought that they would eventually get around to sending in a check for $25 (a bargain for what you get as club member). Several members did finally send in their late payment but, unfortunately, several did not. If you have not renewed your membership by the end of July your address and mailing address will be dropped from the distribution lists. 9 FORD.First On Race Day.. This was on HWY 27 just past the intersection of HWY 51 in Crystal Springs. The car was on the dumpster at a business where I had previously bought several used forklifts. I passed the spot, saw the car, and had to go back and take the picture. I did not realize that the fork lift company was no longer there until I got out to snap the shot. I looked around and there were a number of people I did not know, looking at me. With a parking lot full of F250s, I took the pic, quietly got back into my Chevy and eased out.
