Box Shreveport, LA F RO M TH E PRESIDENT S DESK The car club scene is officially in full swing with several events happening every weekend in April. I was able to make it to the second Marshall Downtown Cruise-in on the second Saturday and had a great time. We had nine Mustangs meet up at the Welcome Center, along with a lone Corvette friend that decided to come along. We got to Marshall about 2:30, to find that the first 2 blocks north of downtown were already full of cars and vendors. We ended up filling up one side of the 3rd block with Mustangs and had a great time visiting with other car people and seeing old friends from Texas. Afterward, we decided to leave early and hit the Jalapeno Tree for some great Mexican food to complete the day. Last Saturday was the Going Green Festival down in Coushatta. I met up with Ernie and Sabrina Lane and Gene Brock, and the four of us cruised down to Coushatta to meet with John Brewer and Philip White for the show and shine car show. We ended up with a great representation of the different model years of cars for the show. John Brewer won the third prize of $50.00 for best car of show voted on by festival spectators. John was already there at the festival helping set up with the Cub Scouts, and was in such a hurry to get there forgot his 64.5 Mustang at home. After some coercing from the Boy Scouts and me, he went home and got his car to display. I think he is probably glad he did. After the Meeting this month we will be cruising to David Beards Catfish Village in Waskom Texas. Lately we haven t really been cruising to functions as a whole club, but rather getting there any way we can and showing up in small groups. Not really as impressive as a long line of Mustangs pulling into a parking lot all at once. After all, we are the Premier car club in the Shreveport-Bossier City area, and we need to arrive in style. I would like to start lining up after our club meeting and leaving all at once with a cruise leader. I will lead unless there is a volunteer who is just dying to be the first Mustang to pull into the parking lot of our destination. It really is cool to be the leader of a long line of Mustangs pulling into a venue. Our last outing out to the Track in Gilliam I led the group, and I got goose bumps leading a group of over 10 Mustangs around the track grounds and into the entrance. Speaking of the track, one reason we go there is to allow Club members to race and run their cars in a controlled legal environment as opposed to on the street or a parking lot where someone can get a ticket, or people can get hurt. We need to save the racing and burn outs for the track, and not on the street, or in the case of our last club meeting, in the Asbury UMC parking lot. It took a lot of man power and leg work to find our new meeting place, and I would hate to lose it because a Club member laid rubber 50 feet down the parking lot endangering citizens coming to vote on a Saturday afternoon. So please in the future, save the displays of power for the track where everyone who understands can enjoy it. We are planning a trip to the track this month, and I hope to see everyone there. I love the smell of burning rubber in the spring time. See y all there! Thomas Monahan
Page 2 M CA NEWS We started out for Beaumont with the threat of rain all the way down. Lots of dark clouds, strong winds that whipped my car so hard I almost got car sick. We didn't get rained on till about 15 miles out. We arrived with the rain, strong winds, and cold weather. Was this supposed to be south Texas and the end of April? Friday we still had cold weather but no rain. I really felt for the people in the classification line. Layered clothes was the style till Saturday. Rob and I went to Wal-Mart and got some close-out sweatshirts. Saturday turned out to be fairly nice as long as you had a hoodie around. Throughout cleaning our cars on Friday, Rob, Tom, and I kept telling Matthew that he'd be bringing home a trophy for his sweet Cobra. All he did was shake his head and say no way. Well folks, our Club had a first ever. Not only did we all take home a trophy, we all brought home first place. The look on Matthew's face was priceless. I always like to see someone attending an MCA show for the first time to come home with a trophy. Matthew I hope you'll come with us again in the future. The plans for the 50th celebration are slowly coming along. The MCA National President assured us all the contracts for the race tracks and the hotels will soon be signed. Hopefully in the next few months we'll be given the go ahead for making reservations at the hotels and that the registration forms will be able to be downloaded. Please have patience and look forward to having a great time in April See you on the road, Donna P L E A S E S U P P O R T OUR C L U B S P O N S O R S
Page 3 S H OW NEWS Welcome to May everyone! Our Show date is slowly creeping up on us. We only have four full months left to plan and bring it all together. Four months you say? Plenty of time! No, not really. New thoughts and ideas are always welcome. So, please send your ideas to me at RRCMC.ShowDirector@yahoo.com and be a part of making the 2013 Show the best one yet! The annual Round Up is a Club event and I need EVERY member to step up and help. This month s project: get out there and drum up some sponsors! If you do approach a business for possible sponsorship, or door prizes, please wear your Club t-shirt when doing so. Thanks, Erin U P C O M I N G ACTIVITIES April showers bring May Mustangs - let s get those ponies out and hitting the road. Now until November we have a full schedule each month with shows, cruises, breakfast, and dinners. So let s get to this month s calendar. The month starts off with the cruise night in Longview Texas at the Whataburger on Gilmer Road the first Thursday of each month. We do not cruise as a Club due to so many people that work during the week. On Saturday the 4th is our monthly Club meeting at the Asbury Church on Airline Drive in Bossier City, 5:00 pm and after the meeting we will be cruising to Catfish King in Waskom Texas. Make sure you come to the meeting with plenty of gas. Saturday the 11th is the monthly cruise night in Downtown Marshall Texas. This is one of my favorite Club activities and I highly recommend meeting the Club at the Texas Welcome Center on I-20 at 2:00 pm to cruise to Marshall. Make sure you arrive at the Welcome Center with plenty of gas. We do not stop on the way. On Wednesday the 15th is our monthly board meeting 6:30 pm Reed Industrial off Mt. Zion Rd in Shreveport. On Saturday the 18th the club always participates in the yearly event in Oil City "Gusher Days." We will be meeting at Whataburger on North Market at 8:00 am to cruise up there, and that evening Colliers will be hosting their cruise night 6-8 pm. Then, here comes Memorial Day weekend, and can I say we have a fun filled weekend planned for everyone. We start the weekend off with Mustangs go to Thunder Road Raceway for Test and Tune under the lights. $10.00 to spectate and $25.00 to race. Check out their web page for rules on the track. We will be meeting at Whataburger on North 6:00 pm to dine then cruise to the track. Coolers, snacks, and chairs are recommended. On Saturday the 25th there is a lot to do. Saturday starts out with BreakFast and Fast Rides from 9-11 am at A Stone's Throw Cafe 1550 Airport Drive. Last month we had a great turn out and hope to have an even better one this time. We had an Audi R8 show up and a nice mix of domestics and imports. I am very much looking forward to this month s BreakFast. Then Saturday afternoon there is the Asbury Motor Club's show in shine from 5-7 pm with free food and beverages. Bring the cars out for a fun time. Then if your still not tired and want more car action, the ArkLaTex drift is holding drift under the lights at Thunder Road in Gilliam. This should be quite fun and is well worth the $10.00 to spectate. Bring a chair and snack and kick back and have a good time. Drift starts at 6:00. Also, they do autocross laps. That is perfect for some of you guys to participate in. Check out Arklatex Drift on Facebook for more details. Happy Cinco de Mayo and Happy Memorial Day to all you guys. A few things to look forward to for June: The Hot Rod Power Tour will be kicking off in the Dallas Texas area on Saturday Thinking about a day trip to Jefferson, TX for lunch Saturday the 8th, then passing thru Marshall for the cruise night and dinner. Colliers customs cruise night 6-8 Saturday 15th Saturday 22: BreakFast and Fast Rides Strawns on 70th st 9-11, T Bone Walker Blues Fest and Car show in Linden TX, Asbury Motor Club show in shine 5-7 ***Make plans now the Mustang Club goes to Lake Bistineau Park for a cook out on Saturday June 29th we will be grilling and chilling*** As I said there is a lot going on so keep those ponies clean, gassed up, and ready to cruise. Have a wonderful month. Nicole Ferlito, Activities Director twomanystangs@yahoo.com
Page 4 Magnolia Car Show Sat Apr 27. We drove I-20 to Exit 44 and took U.S. 371 north into downtown Magnolia. Wendell Perritt took best of show, Jay Jennings and Rob Widner won their class. There was a plethora of door prizes, including an engine. We saw not a drop of rain all day, and it was cloudy and cool at the show. The stores downtown in the square stayed open until 7 p.m. The show was 4 to 8 and ended on time. We did not know there would be awards before we went, as the entry was free. About 300 vehicles were entered in the show. Tommy Gayer No Rob, those won t fit your Shelby.
Page 5 In the March 2013 Bylaw Review, the RRCMC Board of Directors proposed the addition of the following Code of Conduct to the Club Bylaws. This addition was approved by the general membership present at the April 2013 Club Meeting. CLUB CODE OF CONDUCT The Red River Classic Mustang Club does not discriminate against members or applicants for membership on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin and neither condones nor allows any actions based on these factors. Beyond compliance with strictly legal aspects involved, all officers, members and their guests are expected to conduct themselves with honesty, integrity and respect while in attendance at all Club events and events attended as a Club representative, and in the posting of messages on Club related internet sites (eg. Facebook). Club members will be held responsible for the actions and conduct of guests that they bring to Club organized events. Club Members have the responsibility to maintain the respect and trust of the public at large. Any actions deemed to be detrimental to the Club, its membership, or its affiliates will not be allowed and can be subject to discipline up to and including permanent dismissal from the Club. Club Members participating in any illegal activity while attending a Club event or while wearing the Club Emblem on your person or vehicle may result in suspension or expulsion from the club. No personal attacks directed at specific individuals or groups thereof will be allowed. Any and all personal issues with any individual or group should be outside Club activities. The use of foul language both written and verbal is strongly discouraged, and in the case of the Club Facebook page may result in a post being deleted. Repeated offenses will result in loss of posting privileges. Posting of material deemed not to be in the best interest of the Club or in breach of the Club s Code of Conduct can be grounds for termination of Membership. Members and their guests are solely responsible for the insurance, operation and maintenance of their vehicles. The Club discourages the consumption of alcohol by anyone operating a motor vehicle at club sponsored events. Some of the cars that came to the March BreakFast and Fast Rides
