Please help us give her a warm welcome! The Life Enrichment team has been hard at work developing new and exciting programs that meet the needs of all residents. Please make sure you check out the calendar to see what s happening this month! April Outing Schedule: April 4 th ~ Art Gallery of Ontario April 9 th ~ Toronto Humane Society Residents Council will be held on April 10 th at 1:30pm in the chapel. 4 Local & Community Happenings in April 2018 Artistry in Silk: The Kimono of Itchiku Kubota Artistry in Silk celebrates the work of Itchiku Kubota ( ), an innovative artist whose spectacular creations gave new meaning to the art of kimono. His creative work expanded contemporary ideas of surface design and assured Kubota a legacy as an out-of-the-ordinary artist and artisan whose work stimulated the mind and delighted the eye. The exhibition presents 41 kimono designed and produced by Kubota over three decades, from 1976 to his death in Curated by Jacqueline Marx Atkins and organized by the International Chodiev Foundation. When: February 7, May 13, 2018 Where: Textile Museum of Canada- 55 Centre Ave Eaton's Goes to War: Family, Memory & Meaning The First World War transformed Canada. During that war, 3,327 Eaton's employees enlisted to fight. Each time one of them was shipped overseas, a photo was displayed prominently in the Toronto store just steps from Mackenzie House. 2,000 of these portraits survived and have become part of the T. Eaton Company records at the Archives of Ontario. In commemoration of Canada's 150th birthday. Adult $6.19; Senior Ticket: $3.54 When: September 21, 2017 April 29, 2018 Where: Mackenzie House 82 Bond Street, Toronto Winter Stations: Public Art Installations Winter Stations Design Competition transforms lifeguard stations into playful art installations. Winter Stations features works from the winners of the International Design Competition and celebrates Toronto s winter waterfront landscape. FREE. 5 Local & Community Happenings in April 2018 Drop In Clay Classes Explore the potential of working with clay (without the commitment) in one of the Gardiner Museum s weekly Drop in Classes. Drop-In Classes happen every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, with online registration opening at 10 am the morning of each class. Experiment with various hand building, wheel throwing, and decorating techniques under the guidance of one of our experienced artist instructors. You ll have access to a professional ceramics studio. Exercise your creativity and tap into the benefits of working with your hands. Tickets: $15 Adults, $12 Gardiner Friends, $12 Seniors/Students, $5 Child under 12, $5 Firing Fee / piece. When: Starting January Where: Gardiner Museum, Toronto Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors The Art Gallery of Ontario will be the only Canadian stop for Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors. Featuring the North American debut of numerous new works by the celebrated Japanese artist, visitors are invited to enter fantastical worlds as they experience six of Kusama s most iconic kaleidoscopic environments, alongside the artist s largescale paintings, sculptures and works on paper. Two to three visitors will be allowed in each Infinity Mirror Room at once. Visitors will have a limit of 20 to 30 seconds in each room. The Exhibitions are Every Wednesday. "The everyday mundane that we walk by without thought can sometimes be the most beautiful works of art" These photographs present everyday buildings and structures encountered on street photography outings in my travels around the world, shown from a different point of view. Our mission is to foster and establish an inclusive and safe environment at the Rekai Centres. The GSA welcomes all community members interested, LGBTQ2S+ and non-lgbtq2s+.
