He explained that the commission could participate in a grand opening when the park is fully completed in the fall. Deputy City Manager/CIO Jorge Salinas will contact the Police Department to cancel the commission's event at Sunrise Park. MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2018 ANNUAL REPORT PREP ARTION The group decided to highlight that Newton Azorr went to one of the concerts and that the commission is gearing up to volunteer at other summer events. They will note that Cervantes is in place as an emcee and Brockgreitens as a greeter at Festival Latino. 4 HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MINUTES July 24, 2018 Page 3 of 3 BUSINESS FROM THE COMMISSION Brockgreitens and Newton Azorr attended the last Education Opportunity meeting. There will not be a meeting this month. Cervantes expressed his desire for the school district to consider community input on who is hired as the new superintendent. He said that it is important for the community to be involved and for the district to be transparent since it impacts the education of our young people. Salinas gave the group updates on items they had inquired about: He invited the representing councilors for National Night Out event at Sunrise Park, but he will let them know that the event has been canceled. The application deadline for reappointment to the commission is December 7, For park reservations, nonprofits are charged a fee, but it is at a reduced amount. The fees are in place to help offset the expenses incurred by the Parks & Recreation Department when people use the park facilities. The only involvement the City has with the United States Census is to send out information notifying residents of the census. The City will encourage participation in an issue of the Ciry Bridges. The announcement needs to be generic. The City's commissions do not have their own Facebook pages. The commission can request to have items posted on the City's Facebook page through contacting Management Assistant/Communications Officer Marilyn Smith. Cervantes requested that Salinas' updates be a standing agenda item and the group agreed. NEXT MEETING DATE: The next regularly scheduled commission meeting is on Tuesday, August 28, ADJOURNMENT Hearing no further business, Chair Cervantes adjourned the meeting at 7:23 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Reviewed by, Gina Burrese Administrative Assistant Jorge Salinas Deputy City Manager/CIO 4
