3 Alberta 55 plus Membership Benefits beginning Jan Your membership confers the benefits of participation in events and attending and voting at the AGM and/or special meetings as specified. Your membership still includes all Zone activities offered. It increases your ability to participate from one Provincial event per year to three separate Provincial/Canadian level games each year. You can participate in Zone Playoffs leading up to Games offerings. You pay reduced registration costs in all the provincial games of $ It allows participants to compete in more than one sport per year. You can become both volunteer for some of the Games and participant in others. You can bring a 55 plus Provincial Games to your community/area increasing the visibility of the sport in your community/area. We can move the 55 plus Provincial Games throughout the province so it will be nearer to each individual at some time over a 4 year period. You can make a request to the Alberta 55 plus Board to add/remove events. Any person who qualifies, including retirement community residents, can participate with the purchase of a membership. There may be cost savings through sponsoring partnerships as they become available. All this is for the low price of $30.00 per year. So if you like to play or compete or just plain win all will be available to a member of Alberta 55 plus in the future. You can see the province AND demonstrate your proficiency OR showcase your community, your zone and your club. Alberta 55 plus can make all these possibilities a reality! 3

4 JUST FOR FUN FESTIVAL LLOYDMINSTER APRIL 30, 2016 On Saturday, April 30, Alberta55plus Zone 7 hosted its first Cultural festival at the Lloydminster Seniors Centre under the leadership of Zone Treasurer, Kay Hauer. The Just For Fun title showed what it was all about a day of fun and sociability. Seniors came and went all day while choirs sang, an old time band played, line dancers strutted their stuff. Invitations had been extended to any artist, performer or crafts person in the zone to come and take part. Many different crafts were on display often with the crafter there to demonstrate. Painting, quilting, cardmaking, carving, needle crafts were all on display. The Lloydminstrels entertained the audience. Also among the entertainers were the Bonnyville Tuneagers and the Happy Harmonizers from Vermilion. Country Swing provided old time dance music for our swinging seniors and the Legacy Dancers showed us what line dancing was all about. Many participants as well as audience members took advantage of the delicious lunch available at the Centre. It was a truly enjoyable day. Seats were full and chatter was continuous. Thanks to Kay s hard work, the inaugural Just For Fun Festival was a great success. ON THE LIGHTER SIDE You know you are getting older when.. Happy Hour is a nap. The older we get, the fewer things are worth waiting in line for. I don t know how I got over the hill without ever getting to the top! 4

5 PRESIDENT S REPORT Page 5 When I was elected President, just over three months ago, I could not have imagined how short this summer would be. Two days after my election, the Alberta55plus AGM was held in Red Deer followed immediately by a Provincial Board meeting, thus starting a very steep learning curve for me trying to get up to speed at the Provincial level as well as fulfilling my responsibilities at the Zone level. June began with the organization of the playoffs for the Fall Games in Drumheller. I would like to thank our Activity Director and all members who helped. It was a huge and time consuming job. Thank you to all members who competed in the playoffs and congratulations to the winners. I know you will have a great time (bring back some gold). Linda Traquair (Zone 2 President) and the organizers of the Fall Games have worked tirelessly to make the Games a new and memorable experience for all. But, most important of all is, Have fun! I am looking forward to a very active season coming up with our Awards Banquet on October 16 followed by many Fun Days and Memorial Plaque Challenges and other events being scheduled. Respectfully submitted, Bob Cormack ACTIVITY DIRECTOR S REPORT has been a year of concerns, questions and coffee talks about our Alberta Senior Games structure. Change is never taken lightly. Our inner zone activities have not changed. The numbers were actually up from other years. We have had, and are still having, Fun Days which involved 14 community centres throughout our large zone. May through August was not such a successful time period for our zone when we were looking to fill 44 positions for the Drumheller Fall Games. Eight Seniors Centres and one recreational centre committed to hosting our zone playoffs. Well, none of the Seniors Centres was needed and one recreational centre was rented to host a 2 team playoff for pickleball. All in all, we have 13 members attending the Fall Games as well as a few entries in the Arts category. By the time this is published the Fall Games will be over. Hopefully they are a success. I m sure we as an organization will have learned how to handle change and move forward to keep the future bright and keep our seniors active. Respectfully submitted, Vic Ouellette 5
