Michigan Senior Olympics includes a dedicated group of volunteers. They range from games organizers, photographers, membership recruiters, sports coordinators, fund-raisers, office assistants and more. MSO could not survive without the generosity of all the people who volunteer throughout the year. MSO is also looking for scorekeepers, timers, registration table staff, etc., for the Winter Games to be held February 9-15, If you are interested in volunteering please call or volunteer@michiganseniorolympics.org. 1

NATIONAL SENIOR GAMES Congratulations to the athletes who competed in the 2015 National Senior Games in Minnesota. We had 366 athletes represent the state of Michigan.

2 NATIONAL SENIOR GAMES Congratulations to the athletes who competed in the 2015 National Senior Games in Minnesota. We had 366 athletes represent the state of Michigan. The 2016 Summer Games will be the qualifier for the 2017 National Senior Games in Birmingham, AL. The 2016 Winter Games are NOT considered a qualifier for the 2017 National Senior Games. NEW EVENTS COMING TO THE WINTER GAMES We have added Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing back to the Winter Games schedule. They will take place at Independence Oaks on Friday, February 12, Cross Country Skiing will involve a 5K and 10K and Snowshoeing will consist of 100yd and 200yd race. Rentals will be made available for purchase (if needed). We will also have snacks and refreshments available for participants and spectators. Oakland County Parks is also hosting a Learn to Cross Country Ski School in January. I recommend trying it out if you are looking for something fun to do this Winter. Please check out the flyer on page 12. MSO HALL OF FAME The Michigan Senior Olympics is accepting nominations for the MSO Hall of Fame. We will be selecting 3 athletes in Please visit the MSO website for requirements and application form at Inductees will be awarded at the Celebration of Athletes Dinner during the Summer Games. Applications are due: June 1st! 2

WOMEN S ICE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT The 3rd Annual Women s Ice Hockey Tournament is scheduled for April 15-17, 2016 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Please spread the word to help grow this fantastic event!

Dallas Mavericks at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 Upper Level or $30 Lower Level. A portion of each ticket sold will come back to benefit the MSO.

DETROIT PISTONS FUNDRAISER (Flyer on page 10) Come join us for Michigan Senior Olympic Night at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday, April 1st to watch the Detroit Pistons vs. Dallas Mavericks at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 Upper Level or $30 Lower Level. A portion of each ticket sold will come back to benefit the MSO. Each guest will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to take a shot on The Palace court at the end of the game!!! Feel free to bring your grandchildren and family for this great event. *Each person will also be given a FREE giveaway items (TBD) RED WINGS FUNDRAISER (Flyer on page 11) MSO has partnered with the Detroit Red Wings to provide discounted tickets to our supporters!!! Two price levels $40 each (reg. $65) or $25 each (reg. $55). This is a great deal! MSO Night will be Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:30pm vs. Columbus Blue Jackets. $5 from each ticket sold will be donated back to the Michigan Senior Olympics. *Nicklas Lidstrom Hall of Fame Night VOLUNTEERS NEEDED MSO is in need of volunteers to help with both the 2016 Winter and Summer Games. Must provide own paddle. Balls will be provided. You must register with your own partner. No substitutions allowed. Tournament will take place at the OPC. RACQUETBALL Singles, Doubles, mixed Doubles.

There is an age allowance for a younger goalie The goalie s age will not be factored into the team s age division calculation.

MEN S & WOMEN S ICE HOCKEY The following age divisions will apply: 50+; 60+; and 70+. This tournament will be conducted in accordance with USA Hockey rules, except as modified herein. Please go to for a complete set of rules. BOCCE BALL Teams are comprised of two players. You must register with your team. Teams can be mixed. Soft-soled shoes are required for bocce play. Palazzo di Bocce will supply lunch at a discounted rate for participants. POWERLIFTING Bench Press and Deadlift competition is open to men and women and will compete separately. Warm-up and weigh in will be prior to your event. Event will take place at the Rochester Athletic Club. BILLIARDS Men & women will compete separately with the traditional tournament. Standardized 8 Ball rules will apply. This will take place at the Older Persons Commission. CROSS COUTRY SKIING***NEW Athletes may compete in all events. All age divisions will compete simultaneously. All races will be held on groomed trails. Rental equipment is available. Events will consist of a 5K and 10K in the Classic Categories. This event will take place at Independence Oaks County Park. SNOWSHOEING***NEW All age divisions will compete simultaneously. All races will be held on groomed trails. This event will consist of a 100yd and 200yd race. 7 Eligibility: Men and women at least 50 years of age as of December 31, All participants must be a member of Michigan Senior Olympics. Michigan Senior Olympics is open to out of state residents. Registration: Registrations must be received in the MSO office by January 15, Awards: Awards will be presented at the event venues immediately following the competitions. Medals will be awarded to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for individual events and ribbons will be awarded for ribbon events. You must collect your medal(s) and/or ribbon(s) at the conclusion of the event as they will not be mailed out. Check-in and Credentials: Your registration packet and your MSO credentials will be available at the MSO Headquarters in the OPC building at: 650 Letica Dr., Rochester, Michigan Wed.-Fri., Feb. 10th-12th from 8am-4pm and Sat.-Mon., Feb. 13th-15th 8am-Noon. You must produce a valid picture identification to receive your credentials and you may not register for any other athlete. Medical Cancellation Waiver: You may purchase an optional Medical Cancellation Waiver for $ % of the Registration Fee is refundable if you cancel due to a medical condition as long as you can provide documentation from your doctor. The cost of the waiver and the MSO membership are non -refundable. If you did not purchase the medical waiver and cancel after January 15th it will result in a $25 cancellation fee. Schedules: The competition schedules will be based on the number of participants. Updated schedules will be available at each venue and on the MSO website. Hockey schedules will be sent to team captains one week prior to the event.
