National Day party On 6 August 2015, our staff gathered at D.Lounge to celebrate Singapore s Golden Jubilee where they penned down their well wishes for the nation and enjoyed the festive mood over light refreshments. The lounge was decked with Singapore flags and decorations, and our staff turned up in vibrant red and white outfits to commemorate this milestone in our little red dot s history. A cake showcasing Singapore s skyline was designed for the occasion and the cake cutting ceremony was led by Clients & Markets Leader, Ernest Kan, Talent Partner, Seah Gek Choo and Audit Partner, Rankin Yeo along with other partners and staff. Customised cupcakes spelling out Deloitte s well wishes for Singapore were also specially baked by Noeline Keiser, Clients & Markets Manager. It was a joyous occasion as our staff had the opportunity to celebrate as a firm before the long Jubilee weekend started. Our customised SG50 cake and cupcakes Printed on 100% recycled paper. On 9 August 2015 at 9am, the Grassroots Organisations (GROs) across Singapore led over 50,000 Singaporeans in a synchronised singing of the National Anthem and recital of the pledge as One Singapore. 3 Celebrating SG50 August Deloitte s SG50 stamp of approval As part of Singapore s Golden Jubilee celebrations, our staff were given a special sheet of SG50 stamps as a token of appreciation from the firm. Produced by SingPost, these stamps feature five stamp tabs each representing a decade in Singapore. Set against the iconic panoramic backdrop of Marina Bay, the scene captures our nation swept up in joy and celebration. It is a vibrant collage of previously issued stamps tracing our nation s key milestone images over the past 50 years. Only 3,000 copies of these stamp sheets have been printed, and 2,300 copies were given out to our staff! Our own red dots in the green dot! Hence, in celebration of our nation s 50 th birthday, we once again played our part to do our bit for charity by contributing to the four beneficiaries under this project: the Lions Befrienders Service Association, the Handicaps Welfare Association, the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore, and the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. The red dots that we received for our donations were distributed to our partners and staff, so that they can spread the word and encourage other Singaporeans to join in this meaningful project. I like Singapore s connectivity to the global community, the stability that has propelled our growth and recognition amongst the world leaders even though we are just a little red dot on the world

With this year being Singapore s Jubilee year, we took the opportunity to learn more about three of our colleagues who joined the nation in celebrating their 50 th birthday this year. Low Boon Hon SEA COO How does it feel to celebrate your 50 th birthday together with Singapore this year? Very happy and privileged to witness this historic event and fortunate to have grown up in the postindependence era. What is your wish for Singapore this SG50? My wish is for Singaporeans to be very proud of what we have accomplished for the last 50 years. I have benefited from Singapore s development in the areas of housing, education, global visibility and I hope that Singapore will continue to be a home for my family, my children and future generations. A home that provides her people with shelter and learning opportunities during their childhood so that they are equipped with the life skills to face the ever-changing and challenging world. How was it like in Singapore when you were growing up? It was a very happy and fun period of my life a lot of play time less stress when studying up until O levels when the competition for colleges kicked in. What do you like most about Singapore now? I like Singapore s connectivity to the global community, the stability that has propelled our growth and recognition amongst the world leaders even though we are just a little red dot on the world stage, we have a strong foothold globally. Kelvin Koh Manager, AP GSO How does it feel to celebrate your 50 th birthday together with Singapore this year? I was born slightly more than a month before Singapore became independent and whenever people ask me how old I am, I would always answer Same age as Singapore! Nevertheless, while I may play down my 50 th birthday, I cannot ignore the significance of our nation s 50 th birthday! In a short span of 50 years, we, as a nation, have grown and developed so far ahead of our neighbours. How did you celebrate your birthday this year? Turning 50 should seem like a major milestone but when my birthday came, I just had a simple dinner with my family and did not want to make a big deal out of it. Perhaps it s my sub-conscious mind trying to deny how old I really am this year! As Terry Pratchett said, inside every old man there s an eight year old wondering what the hell just happened! What is your wish for Singapore this SG50? While we have advanced so fast economically and technologically, we must not forget our roots: where we came from and where our ancestors came from. It is their hard work and their spirit of togetherness that built the nation to what it is today. As such, my wish for Singapore would be for everyone living in Singapore to rekindle this kampong spirit of mutual understanding, consideration and respect as we look towards the next 50 years! Linda Tan Senior Manager, Audit How does it feel to celebrate your 50 th birthday together with Singapore this year? I feel proud and honoured to share my birthday with the nation. How did you celebrate your birthday this year? It was a meaningful celebration with my family. My 10 year old son made sandwiches, drew a beautiful card and even decorated the house for the occasion! My secondary classmates also organised a big bash in August where we celebrated Fab 50 with singing, dancing and chatting late into the night at Hotel Jen Tanglin. What is your wish for Singapore this SG50? That we can stay so peaceful for the next 50 years and more. How was it like in Singapore when you were growing up? The roads were dirtier and streets less orderly with street hawkers but I miss the great taste of the old days. What do you miss about the good old days? Going to the Drive-In movie at Jurong and visiting the New World amusement park at Jalan Besar. I would love to have 50 more healthy and active years!

5 Making an IMPACT August Deloitte volunteers with the elderly from Tung Ling 7 Letters screening at the Capitol Theatre Deloitte volunteers catch 7 Letters with Tung Ling and NorthLight School In support of the Singapore arts scene and celebration of our Golden Jubilee, Deloitte was pleased to be a partner of 7 Letters, the first film to open at the newly refurbished historic Capitol Theatre. 7 Letters is an anthology film that represents seven heartfelt love letters to Singapore, capturing each of the directors personal and poignant connection with the place they call home. It is presented by Singapore s seven most illustrious filmmakers who will give all proceeds from this special SG50 film to aid specific causes in the community. The directors made special arrangements for additional matinee screenings for the pioneer generation, senior citizens, the underprivileged and students, which were by invitation only and not for sale. As part of our corporate responsibility programme, we supported this effort by bringing 30 elderly from Tung Ling Community Services as well as the students from NorthLight School to the afternoon matinee of the show on 25 July Featuring stories in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil, the film was a big hit with the audience as they got to experience the lives of different Singaporeans through the eyes of the directors. Held at the Singapore Sports Hub, this event was opened to all students and our volunteers were encouraged to join them in the activities and act as motivators during the competitive segments. Cheers and laughter could be heard around the Singapore Sports Hub as our volunteers interacted with the students in activities such as in-line skating, kayaking, rock climbing and the novel sport, Swaveboard. To commemorate Singapore s 50 th birthday this year, old school games such as Chaptek, Five Stones and Hop Scotch were also played, allowing our volunteers to re-live their childhood and share these childhood games with the students. The event was a good opportunity for our volunteers to forge bonds with the students, not just for those who are already familiar with NorthLight but also for those who were interacting with the students for the first time. Seeing the smiles on the students faces while playing Sepak Takraw and learning to play the Swaveboard certainly made this an enriching experience. I will definitely join such activities again in future! On 7 July 2015, the Singapore ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (SAPGOC) announced the appointment of Deloitte as the Official Professional Services Partner of the 8 th ASEAN Para Games (APG), which will be held in Singapore from 3 to 9 December We were the first official sponsor to be announced and since then, we have been supporting the APG in various ways. This includes seconding our staff to SAPGOC, providing risk management services as well as assisting with the publicity and marketing of the Games. Back Up the 8 th ASEAN Para Games 2015 campaign As a charity partner, Deloitte organised the Back Up the 8 th ASEAN Para Games 2015 social media campaign. Under this campaign, the public were encouraged to take a photo of themselves doing the APG pose by putting their right hand over the left shoulder to signify their support of the para athletes. To show your support for the Team Singapore para athletes, simply take a picture of yourself and your family and friends in the Back Up APG 2015 pose right hand over left shoulder and post on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #backupapg15. Our involvement with the ASEAN Para Games and the SEA Games cements our support for all athletes. Seah Gek Choo, Talent Partner With the close of the 2015 SEA Games, the Singapore Sports Institute organised a tea session on 23 July 2015 at the Singapore Sports Hub to show their appreciation for partners in the spexbusiness Network. Our Talent Partner Seah Gek Choo and Clients & Markets Partner James Walton, attended this session with our Deloitte athletes, where our support as a spexbusiness Network partner was recognised. An athlete from each spexbusiness partner presented a token of appreciation to their respective employers. Representing our Deloitte athletes was Derek Wong, Clients & Markets Research Analyst and Singapore s number one shuttler, who presented the token to Gek Choo for Deloitte s support during the 28 th SEA Games. Grateful for the support given to our athletes during the Games, Kimberly Lim, C&M Research Assistant and Team Singapore netballer said, The tea session allowed us to show our appreciation for the support and encouragement from Deloitte. It was also a good chance to catch up with fellow athletes after the Games. Commenting on the scheme, Gek Choo added, Deloitte s involvement in sports extends beyond our involvement in the SEA Games and I take pride in knowing that Deloitte is committed to providing our Team Singapore athletes with the necessary support that they need as they strive to bring pride and glory to our nation. Held annually except when the Olympics are held, this year s edition took place in Jakarta from 10 to 16 August Clients & Markets Research Analyst Derek Wong was one of the 64 shuttlers to qualify for the Men s Singles category and he got off to a smooth start on Day 1 of the competition, facing Belgium s Tan Yuhan, whom he beat in the first preliminary round. In the next round, Derek was up against Thailand s number one shuttler, Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, who is currently ranked nineteenth internationally. The Thai shuttler, dominated the first set of the match, sailing to a 14-7 lead. Derek tried his best to reduce the gap but he was unable to prevent Tanongsak from taking the first set. In the second set, Derek took on his opponent point for point, bringing the set up to 9-9 but the agile Tanongsak broke away from the tie, serving unstoppable smashes and eventually winning the set, From 7 to 16 August 2015, the world s top 16 netball nations gathered in Sydney for the 14 th edition of the Netball World Cup, the pinnacle event for international netball. Being champions for the 2014 Asian Netball Championships, our Team Singapore netball ladies, including Charmaine Soh (FSI Associate), Kimberly Lim (Clients & Markets Research Assistant), Micky Lin (Clients & Markets Assistant Manager) and Yu Meiling (Human Resources Associate), managed to qualify as one of the 16 participating countries. In the preliminary stages, our Singapore team faced stronger opponents such as South Africa and Malawi, who are currently ranked 5 th and 6 th internationally, and got off to a good start, beating Sri Lanka in their first match of the tournament. However, they were unable to progress to the quarterfinals, finishing third in their group, and eventually had to fight for the 15 th position against fellow Asian qualifying team Sri Lanka. Goal shooter Charmaine Soh put Singapore ahead with a flurry of goals in the first quarter, and was supported by team mate Kimberly Lim, who caused trouble for the Sri Lankan players with her agility. Accompanied with impressive defending from Captain Micky Lin, the Singapore team emerged as winners of the match, finishing the tournament in 15 th position. Charmaine was also the player who scored the most turnovers in the tournament, converting an impressive 67 turnovers. Happy with how Singapore was able to end the tournament on a high, Kimberly said, We knew it was our last game and although we could have done better in the tournament, we wanted to finish on a good note. So I think everyone did well in both attack and defence, we really enjoyed ourselves. Making it to the second round of tournament will definitely help me in securing a spot for next year s Rio Olympics. Held on 18 August 2015 at the NTU Auditorium, TURF gave students the opportunity to interact with our Deloitte partners and ambassadors to find out more about working at Deloitte. D.cisions At the event, Deloitte launched our new quarterly student magazine, D.cisions, which provides undergraduates with tips, advice and success stories to help them take the first step in making the right choice when choosing an employer. Highlights from the first issue of D.cisions include a motivating story of Jayden Tran, one of our Deloitte Inspire awardees who strives for academic excellence while juggling his dancing passion as well as highlights of our key events to give students a glimpse of the latest happenings and culture.
