4 In order to compete against the best in the country and world our athletes need to have professionalism in all areas of their training. As a coach I see the benefits and results from the Enhanced Sport Science and Medicine Program, which allows our athletes to access professionals in specific areas which can have a tremendous impact when they perform. 5 GAME PLAN On September 24, 2015 The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Deloitte launched Game Plan, a high performance athlete wellness and transition program designed to give Canadian athletes new tools to pursue excellence during and beyond their sporting careers. Game Plan is a world class program supporting national team athletes in living better lives both during their high-performance careers and beyond. Address athletes most pressing needs: career development, personal development, and healthy minds and bodies Enable the development of mentally stronger athletes who apply what they have learned as leaders in sport to the betterment of themselves and their communities 96 athletes and coaches participated in the 2015 Athlete and Coach Advance. This was an opportunity for attendees to take part in educational opportunities and workshops related to the Game Plan program. This year s topics and speakers were: Colleen Sostorics, 3x Olympic Gold Medalist - Women s Hockey Topic: Sport and Life - A Balancing Act Kia Schollar (nee Byers), 2007 Pan American Games Gold Medalist - Canoe/Kayak Topic: Transition from Sport Lisa Thomaidis, Women s Basketball Head Coach 2015 Pan American Games Topic: Changing the Culture of a Locker Room Dr. Selina Zaluski, Sport Psychologist Topic: Athlete and Coach Self-Care Deidra Dionne, Olympic Bronze Medalist - Freestyle Ski Topic: Confidence - The Key to Success Like so many athletes retired or considering retirement from sport my transition to life after sport wasn t simple. After two years I realized the initial career path I had chosen wasn t for me; it was invaluable that I could access the support of the Game Plan services, such as Dale Carnegie program and the Game Plan Advisor to help pursue and secure a career more suited to my skill-set and passion, giving me the extra confidence to not just settle.
