3 OKLAHOMA CITY NOTES.... Tonight: After dropping two of their first three outings to begin the season, the Thunder is now in search of a sixth consecutive victory this evening as Oklahoma City matches-up against the Memphis Grizzlies. In fact, both the Thunder and Grizzlies enter tonight s contest with the same NBA-best five game win streaks on the line. During the last five games, OKC is winning by an average margin of 10.8 points per game after limiting the opposition to 90.8 points on 39.9% shooting (Oklahoma City shooting 48.4% during this span). Tonight s outing versus the Grizzlies will mark the fifth game for the Thunder in the past seven nights. Getting Defensive: As one might expect, team defense is always critical to overall team success. Through the first eight games of the season, Oklahoma City is allowing opponents to score 92.0 points on 41.1% shooting. In both of these categories, Oklahoma City is allowing the seventh fewest points in the NBA while holding their opponent to the fourth worst field goal percentage. Last season, the Thunder showed material improvement in a number of defensive categories. After allowing points per game on 46.2% shooting through the first 66 games of the season (in which the team started 43-23), the Thunder responded by holding the opposition to 96.9 points on 42.7% opponent field goal percentage this past season. The Thunder wrapped up last year by going a perfect 16-0 when limiting the opponent to less than 90 points. Including the Thunder s win over the Sacramento Kings on April 13 th of last season, Oklahoma City held 19 opponents to less than 40.0% shooting, while posting a 15-4 record in those games. Early Season Notables: During the Thunder s recent outing versus the Detroit Pistons (11/9), Serge Ibaka set a career-high with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Ibaka logged back-to-back 20 point scoring efforts for the first time in his career. In the last five games, Ibaka is averaging 17.6 points on 59.6% shooting (34-57 FGs) to go along with 4.40 blocks. During the Thunder s game on 11/4 vs. Atlanta, Kevin Martin recorded a game-high 28 points (including 19 second quarter points on 5-of-5 shooting in the period). On the night, Martin came one three point field goal shy of the Oklahoma City era record after connecting on 6-of-8 shots from long range. Martin has scored in double figures in each of the Thunder s first eight outings and through the first two weeks of the season, Martin is scoring at a 17.1 point per game clip (on 50.0% 3PT shooting; FGs). It is also worth noting Kevin Durant opened this season with three double-doubles (never before has the sixth year forward accomplished such a feat to open the season). Through eight games this season, Durant is averaging a team-best 10.4 rebounds per game (9 th best in NBA). Making them Look Free: Through the first eight games of the season, the Thunder is once again the top free throw shooting team in the NBA. Oklahoma City leads the league in free throw shooting accuracy after converting at a 84.7% clip ( ) from the charity stripe. Moreover, through games played on Nov. 12, OKC has thus far attempted a league-high 222 free throws. Last season, the Thunder finished the campaign as the top free throw shooting team in the NBA (OKC shot 80.6% from the free throw line). OKC finished the season leading the NBA in free throw makes per game (21.3) while ranking second in free throw attempts per game (26.4). In four instances last season the Thunder converted 30-plus free throws and on each occasion the Thunder won the contest. During the season, OKC shot a league-best 82.3% from the free throw line (5 th highest percentage in NBA history). On the year, OKC converted 30+ FTs on eighteen occasions (16-2 record) after doing so six times during all of the season (4-2 record). During the season Durant recorded 756 free throw makes, an all-time OKC Thunder franchise record and the 6 th most in NBA history for a single season. Durant s 756 free throws made were the most for a single-season since Michael Jordan recorded 833 free throw makes during the season. KD is the ONLY player in NBA history to convert 700+ free throws while shooting 90.0% or better. The Age Question: As of opening night, the Thunder clocked in as the sixth youngest team in the NBA with an average age of 25 years and 38 days. Block Party: Through the first two weeks of the NBA season, the Thunder once again leads the NBA in blocked shots. Led by Serge Ibaka s 3.63 blocks per game (tied for best in the NBA), OKC is averaging 8.38 blocks per game this season. When the dust finally settled last season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in blocked shots (8.17 bpg), but Oklahoma City recorded the highest block per game total in the NBA in nearly 20 years. The Denver Nuggets team (8.37 bpg) was the last group to average more blocks than last year s Thunder squad. Serge Ibaka led the NBA while setting an all-time franchise record with a 3.65 block per game average (most blocks per game since Theo Ratliff recorded 3.74 bpg during the season). To put a bit more perspective on Ibaka s accomplishment; with a total of 241 blocks last season, Ibaka recorded only 19 fewer blocks than the entire New Jersey Nets team. During the Thunder s game versus the Nuggets on 2/19, Ibaka set a franchise record by blocking 11 shots en route to his first career triple-double. On the season Ibaka became the first player to register three 10-plus blocks games since Shawn Bradley during the season (five games with 10+ blocks). Russell Rules: Russell Westbrook now in his fifth NBA season currently maintains the longest active games played streak in the NBA (appeared in 320 straight games). Currently this season, Westbrook is the only player in the NBA to average 20+ points, 5+ rebounds and 7+ assists. If Westbrook was to maintain such averages for the entire season, he would be the first player to do so since LeBron James ( season). During Westbrook s first three full seasons in the NBA, he became one of only five players in NBA history to record 4,000 points, 1,500 assists and 1,000 rebounds through three NBA seasons (Chris Paul, LeBron James, Anfernee Hardaway and Oscar Robertson). By averaging better than 21+ Players to Avg. 19+ points, 6+ assists and 4+ rebounds through first 4 years of career (last 10 years) Player (TEAM) Points Assists Rebounds Russell Westbrook (OKC) Chris Paul (NO) LeBron James (CLE) Dwyane Wade (MIA) Steve Francis (HOU) points and 8+ assists last season, Westbrook became just the FIFTH player in the last 15 years to average 21+ points and 8+ assists {Gary Payton (4x), Stephon Marbury (4x), Chris Paul (2x) and LeBron James). Dynamic Duo: With a combined total of 51.6 points per game last season, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook became the highest scoring duo in franchise history (surpassing their own previous record of 48.2 ppg during and followed by Dale Ellis and Tom Chambers 48.2 point per game average during the season). Durant and Westbrook surpassed the tandem of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade (combined 49.2 ppg) to become the highest scoring pair of teammates in the NBA during During the Thunder s outing against the Denver Nuggets on 2/19, the Thunder prevailed after receiving a combined 91 points from Kevin Durant (51 points) and Russell Westbrook (40 points). The 91 combined points for the two players is an all-time franchise record. After Durant and Westbrook each scored 40+ points in the Thunder s recent outing vs. Minnesota (3/23) the duo becomes the first pair of teammates in NBA history to each score 40+ points on two separate occasions during a single season. On 14 occasions dating back to the start of last season Durant and Westbrook have each scored 30-plus points in the same game (11-3 record). Just Another Back-2-Back: After defeating the Detroit pistons on 11/12, the Thunder registered their second sweep of a back-to-back this season while also remaining a perfect 3-0 on the second night of a back-to-back this season. With three sets of back-to-backs already in the books, Oklahoma City is scheduled to play a total of 15 back-to-backs this season. To date, OKC is 2-1 on the first night and 3-0 during the second night of the club s back-to-back pairings. Last year, the Thunder competed in 18 sets of back-to-backs (in addition to the team s lone back-to-back-to-back) while recording nine sweeps of those back-to-backs in addition to the club s sweep of their only back-to-back-to-back. Oklahoma City posted a 15-4 mark on the first night and a 14-6 record on the second or third night of a back-to-back during the season.

4 Home Cooking: Last season, the Thunder registered a 14-game home winning streak which represented the longest home win streak for the OKC franchise since the season (17 game home win streak from 11/11/94 1/24/95). Prior to the Thunder s home loss versus Cleveland on 3/9/12, more than two months had elapsed between Thunder home losses (1/3/12 vs. POR). The Thunder finished behind only Miami (28-5) and San Antonio (28-5) in the race for the NBA s best home record. So far this season, OKC has gone 4-1 on their home floor (the 4 home wins is tied for tops in the NBA) Rewind: Oklahoma City concluded the regular season with the second best record in the Western Conference (47-19) and the highest year-end winning percentage for the franchise since the season (.744). The Thunder s.712 winning percentage this past season ranks fourth best all-time for the franchise. When the dust finally settled on the season, the Thunder claimed a second consecutive Northwest Division title after finishing 9.0 games above the second place, Denver Nuggets. Oklahoma City has advanced to postseason play in each of the last three seasons for the first time since Bouncing Back: Dating back to the start of the season, Oklahoma City has demonstrated a high level of resiliency in those games played immediately after a loss. Through the early part of this season, OKC is already a perfect 2-0 in those games played after a loss. During the season, Oklahoma City posted a 15-3 mark in games played after a loss. Only the Chicago Bulls recorded a better record in those games played after a loss (15-1). This comes on the heels of the season in which the Thunder posted a record of 20-6 in games played immediately after a loss. The Thunder s.769 winning percentage in those was trumped once again by only the Chicago Bulls (16-4 following a loss). Boards are the Barometer: As one might expect, Oklahoma City has traditionally found its greatest success when outrebounding the opposition. During the season, Oklahoma City went 31-5 when outrebounding the opponent (12-1 when outrebounding the opponent by 10 or more). Conversely, OKC has failed to outrebounded their opponent in 14 of the team s 19 losses this season. Oklahoma City is currently 4-1 this season when outrebounding the opposition. During the Thunder s win vs. Portland on 11/2, Kevin Durant recorded 17 rebounds, one shy of his career-best mark. In fact, Durant recorded a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) by halftime. Only once previously in his career had Durant posted a double-double by halftime (OKC at PHI 03/09/2011). Good Company: During the first three games of the season, Kevin Durant recorded 22+ points, 12+ rebounds and 5+ assists in each of his three outings. Durant joins Oscar Robertson ( ), Sidney Wicks ( ) and Kevin Garnett ( ) to become one of only four players in NBA history to open the season with those specific benchmarks through three games Playoffs: During the 2012 Finals, the Thunder represented the Western Conference after becoming became just the third team in NBA history to win four straight games in the Conference Finals after trailing 0-2. Oklahoma City advanced to the NBA Finals for the fourth time in franchise history (and for the first time since 1996) after defeating the Dallas Mavericks (4-0), the Los Angeles Lakers (4-1) and the San Antonio Spurs (4-2). Point Made: With a point per game scoring average last season, the Oklahoma City Thunder finished behind only the Denver Nuggets (104.1 ppg) and the San Antonio Spurs (103.6 ppg) in the quest to become the NBA s highest scoring team. During the season, the Thunder led the NBA in free throw shooting accuracy (80.6%) while ranking third in field goal shooting accuracy (47.1%). OKC finished the year a perfect 18-0 when shooting 50.0% or better from the field. So far this season, OKC is averaging 99.1 points (9 th best in NBA) on 48.5% shooting (4 th best in NBA). A Golden Summer: This past summer, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each earned gold medals in London as a member of the United States Olympic Team. During Olympic competition, the United States team went a perfect 8-0 including a victory in the gold medal game against Serge Ibaka and the Spanish team. Including his 30-point effort vs. Spain in the gold medal game, Kevin Durant led all US scores after averaging 19.5 points during Olympic play (Durant set a USA Basketball record by scoring 156 points during Olympic play). Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook averaged 8.5 points in 13.5 minutes while appearing in all eight games for the United States. With the Spanish team, Ibaka earned a silver medal after averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in eight games. OKC is Fan Friendly: As was the case during all 33 home games during the season, the Thunder has registered sellouts in all five of their home contests this season. This occurs on the heels of the season in which the Thunder sold out 14 consecutive games to close the regular season and 35 games overall. Fans in attendance this year will once again enjoy the improvements made to the Chesapeake Energy Arena as part of a taxpayer funded initiative passed in March Thanks to the publically funded initiative, the team s arena boasts a state-of-the art scoreboard, new terrace suites, an updated main concourse with new concession stands, a new Sunset Lounge on the Club Level and a first-class courtside club. Record of Success: Since the start of the season, only the Chicago Bulls (167) and the San Antonio Spurs (168) have claimed more victories than the Oklahoma City Thunder (158). Since Kendrick Perkins made his Oklahoma City debut in the middle of the season on 3/14/11 at Washington, the Thunder has posted a record (.725). 10,000: With a game-high 23 points in the season opener on 11/1 at San Antonio, Kevin Durant (24 years and 33 days old) became the second youngest player in NBA history {behind LeBron James (23 years and 59 days old)} to record 10,000 career points. After amassing the 10,000 career point milestone in 381 games, Durant becomes the 15 th fastest player in NBA history to reach the 10,000 point plateau. Durant is just the sixth player in all-time franchise history to cross the 10,000 point barrier {Jack Sikma was previously the fastest player to reach 10,000 points scored (599 games)}. Road Warriors: With the regular season now in the record books, Oklahoma City once again found success playing away from Chesapeake Energy Arena. In 33 games road games last season, the Thunder registered a mark {3 rd best road record in the NBA behind Chicago (24-9) and San Antonio (22-11)}. The Thunder was one of only THREE Western Conference teams (Denver & San Antonio) to boast a winning road record. 3X Scoring Champ: After averaging an even 28.0 points per game last season, Kevin Durant becomes the seventh player in NBA history to capture three consecutive scoring crowns {Michael Jordan was the last player to win three straight scoring titles ( )}. By claiming back-to-back-to-back scoring titles, Durant has joined a hall-of-fame list of NBA players to record the feat (Michael Jordan, George Gervin, Bob McAdoo, Wilt Chamberlain, Neil Johnston and George Mikan). During the season, Durant became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history (21 years and 197 days). Awfully Good in OT: Despite falling to the L.A. Lakers in double overtime on 4/22/12, the Thunder finished last season with a 3-1 record in overtime affairs. During the season, the Thunder became just the FIFTH team in NBA history to win eight overtime games in a single season (8-2). OKC set an all-time franchise record by winning five straight overtime games to start the season and the club s eight OT wins are the most in the NBA since 2002, when the Detroit Pistons went 8-0 in their overtime contests. During the season, OKC captured the franchises first-ever triple-overtime victory (12/1/10) against New Jersey (the OKC franchise was previously 0-4 all-time in triple overtime games).
