What s Happening? The NCAA Gymnastics Championships is in the Show-Me State for the second consecutive year. The event is April in the Chaifetz (SHAY-vitz) Arena in St. Louis, Mo. Florida has qualified for the NCAA Championships 36 times, missing only the 2000 event. The Gators advanced to the 2018 national stage by winning the NCAA University Park Regional ( ) at Penn State s Rec Hall. Florida is the No. 5 seed for the sixth time and for the first time since The Gators took third in 2017 NCAA Super Six action (197.70), as Oklahoma claimed its third team title ( ). Alex McMurtry set the NCAA semifinal record to win the all-around ( ) and her mark of 9.95 shared the NCAA uneven bars title. A Gator has won five of the last six NCAA all-around titles Kytra Hunter (2012, 2015), McMurtry (2017) and Bridget Sloan (2013, 2016). Super Six & Event Champions The top three teams in each of Friday s semifinals advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. (ET). The Super Six winner is the NCAA team champion. The NCAA Super Six format began in 1993, with Florida advancing to the team final 15 times including each of the last six years. This is the final year for the Super Six team format. Starting in 2019, four regional sites produce the NCAA Championships eight-team field. Four teams compete in each semifinal, with the top two advancing to the NCAA Championships team final. The NCAA Individual Event Finals discontinued after the 2015 season. NCAA individual event champions now are based on Friday s semifinal session performances. The results from the two semifinals combine to determine each of the five event champions. Eight Gators have won 18 NCAA individual titles. Who s in the Field? This is the fifth year a team s seed holds through NCAA Regional and Championship competition. Seeds 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 are in Friday's second semifinal and seeds 2, 3, 6, 10, 11 and 18 appear in the opening semifinal. The six teams to win NCAA team titles in the meet s 36-year history are evenly split between the two semifinals (I: Alabama, UCLA, Georgia; II: Florida, Oklahoma, Utah). The teams appearing in the 2017 NCAA Super Six are split between the two 2018 semifinals (I: Alabama, UCLA, LSU; II: Florida, Oklahoma, Utah). Florida met eight of the teams qualified for the NCAA Championships. In addition, the league-record six Southeastern Conference teams in the NCAA field, Florida faced Nebraska, Oklahoma and Washington during the 2018 season. 2 MEET COACH ROWLAND Jenny Rowland, one of the nation s rising coaching talents, is in her third season as University of Florida s head gymnastics coach. Rowland is the seventh head coach for the Gator program, which is in its 46 th season in She shared the 2016 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year honor with Arkansas Mark Cook. She joins volleyball s Mary Wise (1991) as a Gator coach who claimed SEC Coach of the Year honors in their first season at UF. Rowland s experiences from the sport s highest level are the same as many current Gators. She is a former U.S. National Team member, a collegiate All-American and was named a 2015 National Collegiate Assistant of the Year. Rowland is a Category 3 International Brevet level judge. She served on the judging panel for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Rowland s Coaching Career: At Florida: Florida reached the NCAA Super Six team final in each of Rowland s first two seasons with the Gators, taking fourth in 2016 and third in Rowland was named the 2016 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year after the Gators won that season s team title. Gators won NCAA individual event titles in each of the last two seasons. Bridget Sloan won the 2016 NCAA all-around and shared that season s uneven bars and balance beam titles. Alex McMurtry is the reigning NCAA all-around champion and shared that season s uneven bars crown. The Honda Award for gymnastics went to Sloan (2016) and McMurtry (2017), distinguishing them as the nation s top collegiate gymnast. McMurtry was part of a rare double in 2017 and 2018, claiming both the SEC Gymnast (2017)/SEC Event Specialist (2018) and the SEC Scholar-Athlete awards. In National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC) All-America regular-season awards, nine Gators picked up 33 honors since At Auburn: Rowland came to Florida after spending five seasons at Auburn. She joined the Auburn coaching staff as an assistant coach in October of 2010 and was elevated to associate head coach in March of Rowland worked with all aspects of the Auburn gymnastics program, coordinating all of the program's community outreach efforts and interactions on campus as well as playing an integral role in recruiting and in-gym activities. She was named co-national Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015 after helping Auburn reach the NCAA Super Six for the first time in 22 years. Coaching Career Start in Sooner State: Rowland coached Elite gymnasts at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy in Norman, Okla., for five years and then joined the Oklahoma coaching staff in June of At OU, she helped coach the Sooners to the 2004 Big XIII title, three-time team NCAA qualifiers ( ) and three Big XIII Gymnasts of the Year. As a Gymnast: During her gymnastics career, Rowland was a USA National Team member from and was part of the U.S. s 1989 World Championships team. During her collegiate career, she earned All-America honors for the uneven bars in 1993 for Arizona State. The regional/super-regional competition will be conducted over three days at four sites around the country. Two teams at each site compete in a play-in on the first day. On the second day of regionals, eight teams compete in two sessions of four, with the top two in each session advancing to the next day. On the final day, four teams compete with the top two teams advancing to the finals site. At the national championship site, the eight-team field will compete in two fourteam semifinals. The top two teams in each semifinal advance to the NCAA team final. NCAA University Park Regional Recap Florida earned its NCAA Championships berth winning the NCAA University Park Regional with the nation s second-highest region total. Florida s took the program s seventh consecutive regional title and Washington took the second spot ( ) to advance to St. Louis, Mo., for the April NCAA Championships. A Gator took at least a share of every event title. Senior Alex McMurtry claimed three titles all-around (39.725), uneven bars (9.975) and balance beam (9.95). It was her second consecutive regional all-around win and her second title of The is the nation s second-highest in regional competition. Rachel Slocum took the regional vault win for the second-straight year, using a 9.95 to win both years. Slocum shared her first floor title (9.90) as a Gator with Alicia Boren. National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) regional honors were announced at each of the nation s six regional competition sites. McMurtry repeated as the region gymnast of the year, as a Gator has picked up this honor the last five years. McMurtry, who also is the Southeastern Conference Event Specialist Gymnast of the Year, is the fourth Gator to be named NACGC Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year. 8 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes FLORIDA QUICK HITS Florida opened at No. 2 on the 2018 Road to Nationals preseason poll. This is the Gators 12 th consecutive appearance in the nation s preseason top five. Florida returns five gymnasts with 21 All-America honors earned in NCAA Championships competition. The five earned 10 All-America honors in 2017 NCAA competition seniors Kennedy Baker (floor exercise), Alex McMurtry (all-around, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor) and Rachel Slocum (vault). Junior Alicia Boren (all-around, vault) and sophomore Amelia Hundley (all-around) earned 2017 All-America honors. McMurtry won the 2017 NCAA all-around and among a six-way tie for the uneven bars title. An Achilles rupture at the end of February ended Baker s career. Eight Gators have been a part of their national teams, including seven for the U.S. Two incoming freshmen Alyssa Baumann ( , , ) and Megan Skaggs ( ) join sophomores Rachel Gowey ( , , ) and Amelia Hundley ( , , ) and seniors Kennedy Baker ( , ), and Grace McLaughlin ( ) as past U.S. Senior National Team members. NATION S BEST IN 2018 NCAA COMPETITION The U.S. has taken team gold in the last two Olympic Games. The depth available to U.S. coaching staff helped the U.S. take the team gold by comfortable margins. The last two U.S. Olympic Trials contained 24 different athletes and now 13 of those gymnasts are competing in NCAA action. Florida leads all programs with three representatives from the last two Olympic Trials Kennedy Baker (2012), Rachel Gowey (2016) and Amelia Hundley (2016). U.S. National Team Four current Gators were part of U.S. gold medal teams in Pan Am Games competition. Senior Grace McLaughlin was part of the 2011 Pan Am Games gold medal team. Freshman Megan Skaggs joined sophomores Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley on the 2015 Pan Am team. Gowey also won Pan Am gold for the uneven bars. Gowey, part of the , , U.S. Senior National Teams, was also part of the 2014 Jesolo Trophy gold medal team. Hundley ( , , U.S. Senior National team member) was also part of the 2014 Pan Am gold medal team and took silver on floor and bronze on bars at the 2015 event. Freshman Alyssa Baumann was part of the U.S. s gold medal team at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China. The three-time U.S. Senior Team member also competed on the U.S. gold-medal teams at the 2014 and 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy events. Gowey joined her on the 2014 roster for the Jesolo event. She took second on beam on both trips to Jesolo, Italy. Senior Kennedy Baker was part of the U.S and U.S. Senior National teams. Freshman Jazmyn Foberg, a and U.S. Junior National Team member, competed in the 2015 Jesolo Trophy junior division and also competed in that year s International Junior Japan meet. She was third in all-around at Jesolo Trophy and second in Japan. Canada Maegan Chant competed at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships for her native Canada. 10 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes MORE GATOR NOTES Five Gators on NACGC Regular-Season All-America List Nine honors went to five Gators in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC) All-America list. This is the sixth season for NACGC regular-season All-America honors. All-Americans are determined by their regional qualifying score (RQS) standings in the Road to Nationals rankings entering NCAA Regional competition. The top eight gymnasts on each event and the all-around receive first-team honors and gymnasts Nos are second-team All- Americans with all ties included. The five Gators earning spots on the 2018 list include two with a trio of All-America honors. Senior Alex McMurtry earned first team for vault, uneven bars and balance beam. Junior Alicia Boren collected secondteam honors for all-around, beam and floor exercise. Three Gators claimed All-America second-team honors Alyssa Baumann (beam), Rachel Gowey (beam) and Rachel Slocum (vault). All-America status can also be earned at NCAA Championships with a top-four (first team) or No. 5-8 (second team) placing in team semifinal action. The team is made up of one gymnast from each of the eight competing universities who gives back to her community through exemplary service efforts. Each of the 21 sports the league sponsors have its own Community Service Team. Since the start of the fall 2017 semester, Slocum accumulated 40 hours of community service, participating in 12 different events. McMurtry is Nominee for McWhorter Post- Graduate Scholarship Senior Alex McMurtry is the University of Florida s female nominee for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship. The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league s top male and female scholar-athletes. The 2018 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post- Graduate Scholarship is announced April 26. Gators Well Represented in SEC Awards The league s vault and bars champion, Gator senior Alex McMurtry, is the Southeastern Conference Event Specialist Gymnast of the Year, the league office announced March 29. She also claimed the SEC Scholar-Athlete award. The SEC awards are based on a vote of the league coaches. McMurtry is the SEC Event Specialist Gymnast of the Year (honor started in 2014). A Gator has claimed the SEC Gymnast or Event Specialist of Year award five times. McMurtry, the 2017 SEC Gymnast of the Year, is the first Gator to win top league individual honors in consecutive years. McMurtry joins Rebekah Zaiser (2008) as the only Gators to claim the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. The SEC Scholar-Athlete award started in McMurtry is the second to take both a Gymnast and Scholar-Athlete honor in the same season. The first was Alabama's Kayla Hoffman in McMurtry, who claimed the SEC Gymnast and Scholar-Athlete honors in 2017, is the first to win both awards in consecutive years. Florida equaled the league high with six on the All-SEC team. Two also appear on the All-SEC Freshman team. Joining McMurtry on the All-SEC team were the other two Gators with SEC individual titles junior Alicia Boren (floor) and freshman Alyssa Baumann (beam). Also on the All-SEC team- senior Rachel Slocum, sophomore Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley. Baumann and Megan Skaggs represented UF on the SEC All- Freshman team. Gators at the Southeastern Conference Championships A sweep of the Southeastern Conference Championships event titles wasn t enough for the Gator gymnastics team at the March 24 event in St. Louis, Mo. LSU took its third SEC Championship at , followed by Alabama ( ) and Florida ( ). The Gators led at the midway point, but a miss calculated in its floor rotation dropped UF in the standings. Senior Alex McMurtry won vault (9.975) and uneven bars (9.95). She is the third in league history and first since 1999 to earn a SEC Slam winning each of the five SEC individual event titles during course of collegiate career. Freshman Alyssa Baumann s beam mark equaled McMurtry s vault score as the high individual score of the SEC Championships. That is second only to Georgia s Cory Fritzinger's 10.0 in 2004 SEC Championships' beam competition. Junior Alicia Boren claimed a share of the SEC floor title (9.90) and took second in the all-around. They were joined on the All-SEC team by Rachel Slocum, Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley. Baumann and Megan Skaggs also earned SEC All-Freshman team honors. As Florida s nominee, McMurtry receives a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship. If she were named Florida s fourth winner in the 32-year history of the award, she would receive a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. McMurtry is gymnastics SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2017 and She also claimed the 2017 SEC Gymnast and 2018 SEC Event Specialist Gymnast of Year honors.

11 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Freshman Class Ranked No. 1 The Gators four-member freshman class tops the 2018 CollegeGymFans.com rankings. In the last nine years, Florida s freshmen class ranked No. 1 six times and No. 2 twice. Three have been part of U.S. National Teams. Three-time U.S. Senior Team member Alyssa Baumann earned gold with the 2014 U.S. Senior National Team at the World Championships. Megan Skaggs joined Baumann on the U.S. Senior National Team. She earned gold with the 2015 U.S. Pan American Games team. Jazmyn Foberg was a two-time U.S. Junior National team member. She competed with U.S. Junior teams in 2015 meets in Italy and Japan. Nicole Webb trained at the same club, Sonshine Gymnastics, as senior Rachel Slocum. Webb was second on beam and fifth on floor at the 2017 North Carolina Level 10 State Championships. Event Sweep It started with a tie for vault (9.95), but the rest of the March 9 versus Nebraska event titles including the all-around were solo wins for senior All-American Alex McMurtry. She used marks of for the bars and beam wins and won floor at McMurtry s all-around of equals the school record set by Alaina Johnson and then equaled by Bridget Sloan (both in 2014). Five event titles in a single meet doesn t happen often. The last came at LSU when then sophomore Ashanée Dickerson won the 2011 dual meet titles. I Got This Freshman Alyssa Baumann was next up on balance beam for the Gators. She was following a miss and was competing for the first time at the University of Georgia s Stegeman Coliseum. To add to the moment, shortly after Baumann started her routine, the sold-out Stegeman Coliseum crowd of more than 10,000 started cheering the first Bulldog 10.0 of the season just posted for Sydney Snead on floor. If she noticed the roar, it didn t appear in Baumann s performance. She was calm and steady throughout to earn the meet s winning beam mark of Before I got on beam, I knew someone had fallen, so there was a little bit of pressure there. But I knew I could hit my routine. When I was performing and someone had a perfect 10.0, I couldn t hear myself think. I ve never before performed with a crowd cheering like that. In elite, you can hear a pin drop. I just tried to tell myself it [the cheering] was for me and to stay calm and confident. Baumann went on to win her third beam title of the 2018 at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Her winning mark of equaled her collegiate best. It is second only to the 10.0 by Georgia s Cory Fritzinger in 2004 SEC beam competition. Baumann is the first freshman to win the SEC beam since Georgia s Brittany Rogers was among a three-way tie for the 2013 title. Alex McMurtry Top 10 on Career Wins Chart Senior Alex McMurtry is among Gators all-time with 40 or more career event titles. She is sixth on the list with 74 event wins. She s been consistent in the three events primarily competed (vault, bars, beam) to accumulate her wins, as only nine titles come from floor and all-around. Among those on the list with 40 or more event titles, McMurtry s 17 career all-around appearances is by far the lowest (Melanie Sinclair s 26 all-arounder performances is second-to-lowest). It was also a sellout of 9,652 when Oklahoma visited on Jan. 26. Those crowds rank No. 4 and No. 5 alltime, as the O Connell Center gymnastics capacity was larger before the venue s renovation prior to the 2017 season. Florida s 2018 attendance average of 8,304 per meet sets the program record (previous record: 7,433 per meet in 2016). The average stands No. 5 among the nation s gymnastics programs for That average stands No. 9 among NCAA women s basketball, gymnastics and volleyball programs. 12 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Did You Know The average height for the Gators is 5-2 ½. Sierra Alexander is 5-7, the tallest Gator since the 2007 roster had a pair of 5-8 gymnasts Breanne King and Chantelle Tousek. Kennedy Baker s younger brother, Stephen, is also a gymnast. Alyssa Baumann is the third Gator to be a part of a medal-winning U.S. World Championship team. Baumann was part of the 2014 gold medal team. Mackenzie Caquatto and Bridget Sloan were both part of the 2010 U.S. team that took silver. Alicia Boren won four consecutive Junior Olympic Level 10 all-around titles (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012). Maegan Chant got her dog Charlie when she was 12. He dad said if she finished in the top three in the 2010 Elite Canada all-around, she could get a dog. She took second. Amanda Cheney will spend the summer of 2018 serving a production internship with The Golf Channel. Jazmyn Foberg is the second member of the 2018 Gator team to graduate high school a year early to start college. Alex McMurtry also finished high school in three years to join the 2015 Gator team. Rachel Gowey learned a bit more than how to become an elite gymnast while she trained at Chow s Gymnastics. Liang Chow also taught her to count to five in Chinese. Amelia Hundley s family owns a dance studio and she s taken classes for a variety of types of dance. Her favorite? Tap. Francesca Lawal s first language spoken was Italian. She also is fluent in Spanish and English. Grace McLaughlin is fourth member of the current Gator team who was part of a U.S. s gold medal Pan American Games Team. McLaughlin was on 2011 team, Gowey and Skaggs on 2015 and Hundley on 2014 and 2015 teams. Alex McMurtry is the fifth Gator to claim both Southeastern Conference athlete and scholar-athlete honors in a single season. Others to sweep are: Camilo Villegas, 2004 men s golf; Tim Tebow, 2008 and 2008 football; Bank Vongvanij, 2011 men s golf and Patric Young, 2014 men s basketball (defensive player of year). Megan Skaggs is one of three Gators on the 2015 Pan American Games gold medal team. Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley also were on that team. Rachel Slocum also trained as an ice skater until age 9 when she had to pick which sport to pursue. Gymnastics won because she loves flipping and magically landing on her feet. Nicole Webb also was a competitive swimmer until age 13. Her best events were breaststroke and backstroke. All-Around Consistent Junior All-American Alicia Boren has been an all-around competitor since Meet 2 of her freshman season. She now has competed as an all-arounder in 39 consecutive meets. All but five of those performances totaled or better. This season, Boren has won six all-around titles, including five consecutive. She set her season-best of with her win versus Alabama. Boren just missed winning her seventh all-around, as she was edged by the sport s slenderest margin of from claiming the 2018 Southeastern Conference title. The last time a Gator competed in 30-plus all-around competitions was Gator Great Chrissy Van Fleet. She performed as an all-arounder in 33 consecutive meets from the seasons. Gators Collect SEC Weekly Honors Southeastern Conference weekly honors went to five different Gators in Week 1: Jazmyn Foberg: SEC Freshman of Week Runner-up in the season opener all-around at in Florida s win last Friday at West Virginia. That total is the second highest among the nation s freshmen and highest among SEC freshmen so far in Her total is the fifthhighest ever for a Gator freshman in a season opener. Week 4: Alex McMurtry: SEC Gymnast of Week Alyssa Baumann: SEC Freshman of Week A pair of 10.0s (vault, beam) moved McMurtry to the top of Florida s career 10.0 list at nine. The perfect mark on beam completed a Gym Slam a perfect mark on each apparatus. Also became the first Gator to earn a pair of 10.0s in a single meet. Baumann became the second Gator freshman (Bridget Sloan first in 2013) to post a near-perfect on beam. Her on floor as UF s final performer of the meet moved Florida ahead of Oklahoma for the first time of the competition. Week 6: Kennedy Baker: SEC Specialist Gymnast of Week Alyssa Baumann: SEC Freshman of Week Baker closed competition with a 10.0 her third on her signature event. 15 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes McMurtry Completes Gym Slam She stuck her dismount and the Exactech Arena crowd started a 10.0 for Alex McMurtry s balance beam routine. When the 10.0s flashed from both judge s tables, the arena erupted in celebration of McMurtry s ninth perfect mark of her career and her second 10.0 of the evening. The beam score gave McMurtry a 10.0 in each apparatus, completing the Gym Slam for perfect marks. She joins Gator Great Bridget Sloan as the two in Florida s 46-year history to record a 10.0 in each apparatus. McMurtry is the 10 th in collegiate history to complete a Gym Slam. Her first regular-season all-around win came after posting a total of equaling the Florida record and tying for the nation s third-highest total of Florida s all-around record of was set by Alaina Johnson in 2014 and equaled later that season by Bridget Sloan. McMurtry s record all-around came from some big event scores. She tied for the March 9 vault title (9.95) and won the other events outright (9.975 bars, beam; floor). McMurtry has won four all-around titles as a Gator. The other three came in 2017 championship meet succession Southeastern Conference, NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship. Her winning total of set the NCAA Championships semifinal record. Did You Know Every Gator gymnast has a Gator Chomp choreographed into her floor exercise routine. All-American Colleen Johnson was the first to chomp in her 1994 floor routine. It has been a part of all Gator floor routines since McLaughlin Honored for Community Service Efforts For the third consecutive year, senior Grace McLaughlin is a University of Florida Presidential Service Award recipient. She will receive the honor later this month at the UF President s House. To receive the honor, UF students need to record 400 plus hours of logged community service during their time as a UF student. This year, the award was open only to undergraduates or professional students who finish their degrees in McLaughlin has more the 660 Goodwill Gator hours in the last four years. The majority of McLaughlin s 200-plus hours in the last year came from serving as counselor at the Florida Diabetes Camp. At the camp, she monitored blood sugar of the children, led activities and stayed in the cabins with the camp participants. This is the fourth consecutive year a Gator gymnast was recognized as a UF Presidential Service Award recipient, as Bianca Dancose- Giambattisto claimed the honor in 2015.

16 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Meet 1 Preseason No. 2 Florida at West Virginia Jan. 5, 2018 WVU Coliseum / Morgantown, W.V. Gator gymnastics opened the season with a win Friday evening at West Virginia in front of WVU Coliseum crowd of 2,613. Florida swept each of the meet event titles. Senior Alex McMurtry won the meet s opening two events vault (9.90) and uneven bars (9.925). Three Gators shared the balance beam win at 9.90 Alyssa Baumann, Alicia Boren and Rachel Gowey. Boren took the floor exercise win (9.925) and claimed the all-around with the top season-opening total ever for UF (39.575). Freshman Jazmyn Foberg was an unexpected Gator all-arounder, as she stepped into the beam lineup to replace senior Kennedy Baker. A bout with the flu earlier in the week likely led to Baker s leg cramps and she was replaced after bars in each of the three remaining events to be safe. Foberg was runner-up at the fifth-highest all-around for a freshman in a UF season opener. Florida had a few bobbles during the evening but finished strong on its closing event. The Gators went six-for-six on beam, with four marks of 9.85 or better. GATOR PERFORMANCE NOTES: The from Boren is the highest all-around total ever by a Gator in a season opener. All-American Ashanée Dickerson posted the previous high of in Gainesville in UF s 2011 season-opening win versus Nebraska. It was the sixth all-around win of Boren s career. McMurtry picked up career wins No.19 for vault and No. 16 for uneven bars. Freshman Alyssa Baumann was among Florida s three-way tie for first on beam. A three-time member of the U.S. Senior National Team, Baumann deferred enrolling at Florida until fall of 2017 after suffering an elbow injury preparing for the 2016 Olympic Trials after her senior year. Tonight was Baumann s first competitive performance since the 2017 P&G Championships a span of 18 months. Gowey shared her third beam win while Boren collected the fifth of her career. Boren opened each of her three seasons with a beam win 2016 (9.90), 2017 (9.925), 2018 (9.90) Boren s floor win was her sixth as a Gator, with the other five coming last season. Tonight, she opened her floor with a double layout, marking the first time she performed the skill as a collegiate. THE SERIES: Florida leads the series HEAR FROM THE GATORS: Thoughts on first meet with the Gators: Definitely a roller-coaster ride. However, there was some amazing highs to go along with the lows. We knew coming into this competition no one was going to be perfect. It was a start to get the kinks worked out. I think there is a lot to take away from this meet good and bad. Anything that was good, they can take away with a lot of confidence. Anything that wasn t exactly how they planned it to go, they can take it and work on it for the next meet. I was nervous for so long because we were practicing, training and getting ready all fall. It felt really good to get out there and just compete. Top-ranked Louisiana State edged Florida in front of a sellout crowd of 9,661 Friday evening at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O Connell Center. The margin of victory of a point marks the fifth time among LSU s last eight wins against UF (dating back to 2015 season) that or less resulted in a Tiger victory. Florida made its Friday Night Heights debut this week and the meet certainly provided great competition for the O Connell Center crowd and those watching on the SEC Network. The Gators led the meet after the opening rotation, but trailed LSU by at the midway point. Florida only could gain a quarter of a tenth on each of the final two rotations, not enough to close the mid-meet gap. Florida senior Alex McMurtry won her second consecutive uneven bars title of the season with a Sophomore Rachel Gowey s 9.95 on balance beam equaled the high mark of the evening. That scored set her collegiate best to give Gowey her second consecutive beam win. LSU s Lexie Priessman took the vault win at Myia Hambrick used a 9.95 to win floor exercise. She also was the all-around winner at The win gives the Tigers a key win toward claiming the program s second consecutive regular-season title was the first year the Southeastern Conference awarded a gymnastics champion for regular-season competition. The Tigers took the 2017 title with a 7-0 league record. Florida was runner-up at 5-2. SELLOUT NOTES: Tonight s crowd of 9,661 is the first sellout in Gator gymnastics 46-year history. It is the fourth largest crowd for the program, as the O Connell Center gymnastics capacity was larger before the venue s renovation prior to the 2017 season. We talked a lot about filling the bag this week, which means making everything count doing everything you can to control the controllables in order to be fulfilled in the end, no matter the outcome. This team did a good job fixing the little things that we needed to fix from the first meet. We worked together extremely well as a team. We still have a lot of new players this competition, which is a really exciting time for us. Our freshmen did a great job for us, there were a few mistakes, but it is okay, we have a long season ahead of us. Everyone is getting ready for postseason and that is when it counts. Most importantly, it doesn t have to deal with gymnastics; it has to do with coming together as a team. This team was close throughout the entire competition, I saw them arm-in-arm throughout the meet. That was something we missed last meet the energy was low. But tonight, they brought the energy and Gator Nation really helped in that respect. It was my first sellout, which was exciting. The team improved on a lot of things that they were able to control. There are still some jitters in competition, but that is going to come with time. Our seasoned veterans did a great job and Slocum had a little hiccup [on vault], but the team was there to pick her up. 17 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Meet 3 No. T6 Florida at No. T6 Kentucky Jan. 19, 2018 Memorial Coliseum / Lexington, Ky. LEXINGTON, Ky. In the meeting of the collegiate gymnastics teams ranked No. 6, it was Florida with the win Friday in front of a Memorial Coliseum crowd of 5,549. The Gators took the win, , over Kentucky. The Gators trailed by 0.15 after the opening rotation but owned more than a point lead at the midway point. That lead narrowed to a point after the third rotation. The final rotation was a bit uncomfortable as the Gators had a fall at the beginning and end of the beam lineup, but the Wildcats could not close the gap. Florida s two Rachels claimed the first two event titles. Sophomore Rachel Gowey used a to win her first collegiate uneven bars title. Then senior All-American Rachel Slocum used the Gators season-high of to claim a share of her first vault title of Senior All-American Kennedy Baker led Florida on floor exercise to tie for second at Gowey collected her second event win of the evening, sharing the beam title at Kentucky sophomore Mollie Korth took the all-around at and shared the vault win with Slocum (9.925). We made a lot of improvements in different areas from our first road meet, which is always good to see. We worked better together as a team; the energy was fantastic. The Gators were really having a good time and that did show in a lot of ways. Our performance on vault was much better this week. We had a great floor performance. Bars was ok a few missed opportunities here and there. Beam was a missed opportunity. It was good to see that after Kennedy [Baker] fell during the first routine, we had a freshman [Megan Skaggs] come up second and she nailed her routine. The team was able to keep their confidence up and keep moving through most of the lineup. Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland What can you say about Rachel Gowey s performance this season? She s been so solid. It s been so great to see Rachel s [Gowey] confidence rise. She came in last year as such a high-level athlete but looked shy in her performances. I was happy with my vault tonight. Obviously, these first two meets weren t what I had planned for vault, but I definitely think I brought it tonight. We want to control the things we are able to control and this team week by week has shown that they have learned from competition and are moving forward. It has been very rewarding for me to be able to see them to take everything from training and former competitions and be able to put it out on the competition floor. I am super proud, the athletes did a great job of building off one another s routine. We have been lacking that over the last couple of weeks, but tonight, the momentum kept flowing. The team fought with a lot of heart and a lot of grit. As much as I love watching their performances, I also love watching the sidelines and seeing how encouraging and uplifting this team is to each other. 18 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Meet 5 No. 5 Florida at No. 17 Auburn Feb. 2, 2018 Auburn Arena / Auburn, Ala. AUBURN, Ala. No. 5 Florida gymnastics won Friday at No. 17 Auburn in front of a Groundhog Day crowd of 6,391 at the Auburn Arena. The Gators is Florida s best road total of The Tigers stands as AU s high for the season. The Gators trailed by after the opening rotation, but moved in front for good after equaling the nation s high of on vault. Florida turned in a solid on floor exercise and closed with a on balance beam. Two Gators won event titles in consecutive rotations. First, Gator senior All-American Alex McMurtry won the meet s uneven bars title, and then added the vault win on the next rotation. The first win came with a nearly-perfect on uneven bars. Then she posted a perfect 9.95 on vault, as she performed the Yurchenko full tonight (start value: 9.95). In the meet s second half, it was junior All-American Alicia Boren s turn to be a multiple event winner - both with season-best marks. Boren equaled her collegiate best of 9.95 to take the floor exercise title. Then she finished her competition with a for the balance beam win. Boren added her third title of the day with a in the all-around. Sophomore Amelia Hundley was second with a in her 2018 all-around debut. GATOR NOTABLES: McMurtry s turned in perfect vault marks in consecutive meets, albeit both have different scores. Last week versus No. 1 Oklahoma, McMurtry earned the third vault 10.0 of her career for her Yurchenko double full (start value: 10.0). Eleven season-best marks by eight different Gators posted Friday HEAR FROM THE GATORS: Thoughts on tonight s meet: Today s performance was a big improvement over any of our previous road meets. The team seemed to take a little more confidence on the road with us after our last home meet. We were able to build on each routine, which was great to see. We were resting some and others were coming back from illness so there were some new faces in the lineups, which is always fun to see. At the beginning, the energy was a little conservative. We were a little quiet on bars. After bars, the energy ramped up and we had a stellar vault. We ve had some amazing vault this year but balancing the power and the finesse of the landing has been a challenge sometimes. So it was great to see there was improvements shown there. We had some new faces on floor tonight. Rachel Gowey went out and had a great performance. I thought performances overall on floor were really good. We finished off with a solid beam rotation. We had a miss from Alex [McMurtry] but the rest of the team did really well. Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland How did you think the team did tonight? I think the team did great for an away meet. We brought the energy and kept the momentum from last week. We started a little conservative. Luckily, we picked up the energy as the night went on. It was a little cold so you try to get warmed up and get started. Bars gave me a great start and that brought me to vault. I was really going for that landing. We have more to give and more to show. We are going to get back to the gym and work on that but considering the circumstances of this week, I think we did well tonight. Two of the nation s top five team totals now belong to Florida No (Jan. 26) and No (Feb. 2). The Meet s Flow The Tide led by after the opening rotation, but after a season-best on uneven bars, the Gators owned a lead at the midway point. We had some struggles this week with some nagging injuries and illnesses. Even with new lineups, the team accepted the challenge and handled it with a lot of grace. In our team meeting before the competition, we talked about filling our bag. That is something we have been talking about a lot and everyone came forward and said something that they wanted to work on today. We had a lot of confidence and we had a lot of people saying that they believed in themselves. There were a few individual goals set; some said that they did not want to be perfect; they wanted to be great tonight. All of those qualities that we have been working on in the gym shined through tonight and I am really proud of this team. No. 5 Florida gymnastics took a win Friday at No. 14 Georgia in front of a sold-out Stegeman Coliseum crowd of 10,017. The Gators opened the meet by equaling their season-best uneven bars team total of Two Gators equaled their 2018 uneven bars best Friday Amelia Hundley (9.925) and Alex McMurtry s winning score of The Gators final three vaulters all scored a 9.9 or better Rachel Slocum (9.90), McMurtry (9.925) and Alicia Boren won the event by equaling her collegiate best of McMurtry made her season floor debut Friday, posting a She was one of three Gators with floor marks of 9.9 or better. Even beam as the last event in a tough environment, what they were doing looked great. The little details that we ve been working on are being fixed, landings are being fixed as well as executive and presentation. Really proud of them overall. I feel we are still moving in the right direction. We had to count a fall tonight, but on the other events, we showed big strides. Beam is an event we are very solid on and we will work out those little bumps. Really the performances overall, the confidence, the grace and the stepping up it is really good to see this team continue to move forward. Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland The lineups were shuffled a bit tonight. How did the new performers do? As a whole, we had several new faces in tonight and shuffled different people into the lineup. Everyone on the team felt and knew they were going to be successful. These three hadn t competed a lot in the lineups they appeared in tonight. Alyssa [Baumann] did a fantastic job starting us off on vault. She really set the tone. [Rachel] Gowey went back in on floor. She s competed a couple of times this season and did a fabulous job nice solid routine. Then Nicole Webb, a freshman who had not yet been in the lineup this season. She really rocked her beam routine. She was a little hesitant as she knew there were two falls ahead of her and it was a tense situation, but she handled it very well and with a lot of grace. Florida Head Coach Jenny Rowland There was a fall before you on beam and while performing, the crowd celebrated a floor What were you thinking while you performed? Before I got on beam, I knew someone had fallen, so there was a little bit of pressure there. But I knew I could hit my routine. When I was performing and someone had a perfect 10.0, I couldn t hear myself think. I ve never before performed with a crowd cheering like that. In elite, you can hear a pin drop. I just tried to tell myself it [the cheering] was for me and to stay calm and confident. freshman Alyssa Baumann Alex McMurtry made her first appearance on floor tonight. How did that performance go? It was great to see Alex back out in the floor lineup. I think I can count on one hand how many floor routines she s actually trained. She did a fabulous job and to come away with that confidence and knowing that you ve got at least that many more until post-season is really just setting her up for a lot of success. Baker, who earned her third career 10.0 on floor exercise in her last performance in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O Connell Center on Feb. 9, tore her Achilles tendon on her second tumbling pass and was carried off the floor exercise mat by UF medical staff. She will have surgery next week to repair the seasonending injury. Before we started the competition, our Gator of the Day was Kennedy [Baker] and she talked about family with this team. She has their backs and they have her back. That s the core of this team this year, of these athletes this year. They did a fantastic job of building off of each other all the way through from beginning to end tonight performance after performance. The little details we have been working on in practice really shone through tonight, so that was really awesome to see. We have been working on rhythm. These athletes are spectacular and perfectionists, so there are times when we have to dial it back and distract them from things other than what they have to do perfectly and rhythm is a good way to do that. They did a fabulous job supporting each other, executing and having fun out on the competition floor. We are very thankful to have that support from Gator Nation tonight. 20 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Meet 9 No. 5 Florida at No. 20 Missouri March 2, 2018 Hearnes Center / Columbia, Mo. COLUMBIA, Mo. No. 5 Florida gymnastics lost at No. 20 Missouri Friday evening in front of a Hearnes Center crowd of 1,811. It was the first loss in the 23 all-time meetings between the two programs. About the Meet: The Gators started Friday s competition with a solid uneven bars rotation. Alex McMurtry took the win at Sophomore Rachel Gowey took third at McMurtry also took the event title on the Gators next rotation with her vault mark of Marks of from Alicia Boren and Alyssa Baumann led the Gators on floor to share the evening s event title. The Gators were forced to count a fall on floor exercise when Gowey and Jazmyn Foberg both had trouble on their second tumbling passes. The Gators went into the final rotation trailing the Tigers by No falls were recorded in UF s balance beam rotation, but enough wobbles and breaks dinged the Gators scoring potential on the final rotation. Florida s beam scores couldn t keep up with Missouri s floor marks, as no score lower than counted toward the Tigers floor total. McMurtry anchored Florida s beam lineup with the evening s winning mark of Boren was second on beam at Boren claimed her fifth consecutive all-around at GATOR NOTABLES: For the second consecutive meet, McMurtry won three event titles. I wanted to do well for the team and help the team score. It was tricky tonight due to the holes without Kenn [Baker] and [Rachel] Slocum so my personal goal tonight was to be loud for the team. I think we need to take our mistakes and bring them into the gym. There are little kinks here and there are some areas we can gain more confidence in ourselves. With Kennedy [Baker] being out with an injury and [Rachel] Slocum being sick, that did bring our confidence down a bit. We need to believe in each other. We are down a couple of team members and I think it was a good reality check. We will use this to fuel the fire going forward. freshman Alyssa Baumann It is easy to get a little down after a loss. I thought we kept it together and the team showed a lot of fight. There were some performances we weren t thrilled with, but we saw each other fight through every rotation. Even on beam, we had some wobbles, but everyone stayed on. There are mistakes we can definitely improve upon. It was a night of records mixed with a few tears. Friday s meet was the final home appearance for Florida s four-member senior class Kennedy Baker, Grace McLaughlin, Alex McMurtry and Rachel Slocum. They, along with team manager Casey McLaughlin, were honored in a post-meet ceremony. Some notables about this class: Baker, McLaughlin and McMurtry part of Florida's 2015 NCAA and 2016 SEC Championship teams Turned in a regular season record since in home action Performed 423 routines as part of the Gators' competitive lineup, with 201 of those scored a 9.9 or better Gator Nation also helped close out home action by setting a season average attendance record of 8,304, breaking the previous record of 7,433 set in Five Wins for McMurtry McMurtry swept the individual honors in her final O Connell Center appearance, including taking the allaround at That total equals Florida s record set by Alaina Johnson in 2014 and equaled later that season by Bridget Sloan. 21 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Meet 11 No. 5 Florida at SEC Championships March 24, 2018 Chaifetz Arena / St. Louis, Mo. ST. LOUIS, Mo..- The Gator gymnasts led all teams on three events Saturday at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Unfortunately, Florida s performance on floor exercise ended their pursuit for their 11 th team title. LSU made it a sweep of the 2018 SEC gymnastics titles Saturday with its win in front of 6,073 at the Chaifetz Arena. Earlier this month, LSU claimed its second consecutive SEC regular-season title with a 7-0 league record. Tonight, LSU claimed its third SEC Championship and second consecutive - with a score of Alabama took second ( ) and the Gators were third at It was a disappointing ending for UF after leading the meet at the midway point. Falls from two consecutive Gator floor performers freshman Megan Skaggs and defending SEC all-around champion Alex McMurtry forced the team to count a miss in its final floor total. McMurtry Joins Select Group With her two event titles Saturday, McMurtry is now one of six in the 38-year history of the SEC Championships to claim at least one event title in four consecutive seasons. The last to reach that milestone was her 2015 Gator teammate Kytra Hunter. She is the third in league history (joining Jenny Hansen of Kentucky and Karin Lichey of Georgia) and first since 1999 to win each of the five apparatus titles (all-around, vault, bars, beam, floor) over the course of her collegiate career. McMurtry s six career SEC event titles is second for the Gators behind Hunter s seven. Gator Great Bridget Sloan also claimed six SEC titles. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. The Florida gymnastics team is off to the NCAA Championships after winning the University Park Regional title, held Saturday afternoon in front of 2,755 at Penn State s Rec Hall. The win advances Florida to St. Louis, Mo., where the NCAA Championships appears for the second consecutive year. The Gators turned in a Saturday for the team s seventh consecutive NCAA Regional title. The top two teams in regional competition advance to the NCAA Championships. Washington claimed the other berth at Arizona State was third at , followed by New Hampshire (194.95), Penn State ( ) and West Virginia (194.40). Senior Alex McMurtry won three event titles, including her second all-around title of Her winning allaround total of is just a tenth away from the school record (39.825) she shares with Bridget Sloan and Alaina Johnson. The Gators Meet Performance: The Gators put together a complete meet, with the top Gator score on each event taking the regional title. Florida opened the meet on the two power events floor exercise and vault. A solid floor set led by All- Americans Alicia Boren and Rachel Slocum s 9.90 gave the Gators a for their opening event. Gators looked sharp on vault, with the final three posting marks of 9.90 or better Boren (9.90), Alex McMurtry (9.925) and Rachel Slocum (9.95). Florida s equals the team s third-highest uneven bars total this season. Three turned in marks of 9.90 or better Megan Skaggs (9.90), Rachel Gowey (9.90) and McMurtry (9.975). The Gators closed the meet on balance beam, again turning in a A trio of Gators earned scores of 9.90 or better Boren (9.90), Gowey (9.925) and McMurtry (9.95). GATOR PERFORMANCE NOTES: The three titles for McMurtry tonight gives her 26 event wins for the season. That sets her career high for event wins, as she collected 24 wins as a junior. This is the third consecutive NCAA Regional event win for Slocum. As a sophomore with Eastern Michigan in 2016, she shared the NCAA Ann Arbor Region floor exercise title. That win advanced her to the NCAA Championships as an individual competitor. She won the Gainesville Regional with a 9.95 and used that mark again to take the University Park vault win. The regional all-around title has gone to a Gator each of the past nine seasons Ashanée Dickerson (2010, 2012), Alaina Johnson (2011 & 2014), Kytra Hunter (2013), Bridget Sloan (2015, 2016) and McMurtry (2017, 2018). Boren s share of the floor win is her sixth title on the event this season. She also used a 9.90 to share the 2018 Southeastern Conference floor crown. Florida s McMurtry, who was named SEC Specialist and Scholar-Athlete of the Year last month, claims her second NACGC Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year honor. She is the fourth Gator to claim the honor since QUOTE Opening Statement: It was a great night. We came in and did our job and that s what we set out to do. The team performed tonight like they have been doing in the [practice] gym. This team has a lot to be proud of. We had a little bit of adversity tonight but picked each other up and carried on just as nothing ever happened. That was great and they handled it very well. The team s first five [on beam] were rock solid just as they do in practice and it took the pressure off everybody. Alicia Boren had a little mistake on bars and covered it to the best of her ability. I was very proud of her for finishing as strong as she did, but the next five [on bars] just killed it. Didn t miss a beat and their confidence didn t sway whatsoever, so it was really good to see them just go up and perform like they do in practice.
