The Gator gymnastics regular-season finale brings the fifth top-15 opponent to the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O Connell Center in UF will face No. 13 Nebraska on Friday, March 9. Meet time is set for 6:45 p.m. The meet streams live on SEC Network + with Daniel Gillman and Gator gymnastics alumna Stacey Gleim calling the action. Friday is Senior Night. A post-meet ceremony celebrates the collegiate careers of Kennedy Baker, Grace McLaughlin, Alex McMurtry and Rachel Slocum. A sweep of the individual titles wasn t enough as Florida dropped a decision last Friday at then No. 20 Missouri. The Gators led by two-tenths at the midway point but was forced to count a fall during the floor exercise rotation. Heading into the final rotation, Florida trailed by 0.075, but UF s balance beam scores couldn t keep up the Tigers floor scores. It was the first loss for UF in the 23 all-time meetings between the two programs. At Missouri, senior All-American Alex McMurtry took the vault (9.925), bars (9.95) and beam (9.95) wins for the second consecutive meet. Florida s Alicia Boren and Alyssa Baumann shared the evening s floor title at 9.925, which equals Baumann s collegiate high. Boren took her sixth all-around win of 2018 and fifth consecutive with her total of Nebraska is coming off two multi-meets last weekend. McMurtry won the NCAA all-around with a NCAA semifinal record of and was among a six-way tie for the uneven bars title. McMurtry received several awards, including the Honda Award (awarded to top collegiate gymnast), SEC Gymnast and SEC Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of Year. She is the first Gator to receive the NCAA Elite 90 award, given to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average at each of the 90 NCAA Championship sites. Of the 12 teams at the 2017 NCAA Championships final site, only Florida returns all 24 routines competed. Bolstering Florida s lineup options in 2018 is the addition of four freshmen. Three bring experience from the U.S. national team program. This trio brings the number of gymnasts with all-around potential on 2018 Gator roster to eight. Alyssa Baumann was part of the U.S. s gold-medal team at the 2014 World Championships. She qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials, but an elbow injury while preparing for the Trials led Baumann to defer enrolling at UF until fall 2017 as she recovered. Megan Skaggs joined current Gator sophomores Rachel Gowey and Hundley on the 2015 Pan America Games gold-medal team. Jazmyn Foberg graduated high school in three years, allowing her enroll at UF in fall of Foberg is a two-time member of the U.S. Junior National Team, representing the U.S. in Italy and Japan in Nicole Webb trained at the same club, Sonshine Gymnastics, as senior Rachel Slocum. Webb was second on beam and fifth on floor at the 2017 North Carolina Level 10 State Championships. This class ranks No. 1 on the 2018 CollegeGymFans.com Top Recruiting Classes list. In the last nine years, Florida s recruiting classes have ranked No. 1 six times and No. 2 twice.

2 MEET COACH ROWLAND Jenny Rowland, one of the nation s rising coaching talents, is in her third season as University of Florida s head gymnastics coach. Rowland is the seventh head coach for the Gator program, which is in its 46 th season in She shared the 2016 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year honor with Arkansas Mark Cook. She joins volleyball s Mary Wise (1991) as a Gator coach who claimed SEC Coach of the Year honors in their first season at UF. Rowland s experiences from the sport s highest level are the same as many current Gators. She is a former U.S. National Team member, a collegiate All-American and was named a 2015 National Collegiate Assistant of the Year. Rowland is a Category 3 International Brevet level judge. She served on the judging panel for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Rowland s Coaching Career: At Florida: Florida reached the NCAA Super Six team final in each of Rowland s first two seasons with the Gators, taking fourth in 2016 and third in Rowland was named the 2016 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year after the Gators won that season s team title. Gators won NCAA individual event titles in each of the last two seasons. Bridget Sloan won the 2016 NCAA all-around and shared that season s uneven bars and balance beam titles. Alex McMurtry is the reigning NCAA all-around champion and shared that season s uneven bars crown. The Honda Award for gymnastics went to Sloan (2016) and McMurtry (2017), distinguishing them as the nation s top collegiate gymnast. McMurtry was part of a rare double in 2017, claiming both the SEC Gymnast and the SEC Scholar-Athlete awards. In National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC) All-America regular-season awards, seven Gators picked up 24 honors since At Auburn: Rowland came to Florida after spending five seasons at Auburn. She joined the Auburn coaching staff as an assistant coach in October of 2010 and was elevated to associate head coach in March of Rowland worked with all aspects of the Auburn gymnastics program, coordinating all of the program's community outreach efforts and interactions on campus as well as playing an integral role in recruiting and in-gym activities. She was named co-national Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015 after helping Auburn reach the NCAA Super Six for the first time in 22 years. Coaching Career Start in Sooner State: Rowland coached Elite gymnasts at Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy in Norman, Okla., for five years and then joined the Oklahoma coaching staff in June of At OU, she helped coach the Sooners to the 2004 Big XIII title, three-time team NCAA qualifiers ( ) and three Big XIII Gymnasts of the Year. 4 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes FLORIDA QUICK HITS Florida opened at No. 2 on the 2018 Road to Nationals preseason poll. This is the Gators 12 th consecutive appearance in the nation s preseason top five. Florida returns five gymnasts with a total of 21 All-America honors earned in NCAA Championships competition. The five earned 10 All-America honors in 2017 NCAA competition seniors Kennedy Baker (floor exercise), Alex McMurtry (all-around, vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor) and Rachel Slocum (vault). Junior Alicia Boren (all-around, vault) and sophomore Amelia Hundley (all-around) earned 2017 All-America honors. The last two U.S. Olympic Trials contained 24 different athletes and now 13 of those gymnasts are competing in NCAA action. U.S. National Team Four current Gators were part of U.S. gold medal teams in Pan Am Games competition. Senior Grace McLaughlin was part of the 2011 Pan Am Games gold medal team. Freshman Megan Skaggs joined sophomores Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley on the 2015 Pan Am team. Gowey also won Pan Am gold for the uneven bars. Gowey, part of the , , U.S. Senior National Teams, was also part of the 2014 Jesolo Trophy gold medal team. Hundley ( , , U.S. Senior National team member) was also part of the 2014 Pan Am gold medal team and took silver on floor and bronze on bars at the 2015 event. Freshman Alyssa Baumann was part of the U.S. s gold medal team at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China. The three-time U.S. Senior Team member also competed on the U.S. gold-medal teams at the 2014 and 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy events. Gowey joined her on the 2014 roster for the Jesolo event. She took second on beam on both trips to Jesolo, Italy. Senior Kennedy Baker was part of the U.S and U.S. Senior National teams. Freshman Jazmyn Foberg, a and U.S. Junior National Team member, competed in the 2015 Jesolo Trophy junior division and also competed in that year s International Junior Japan meet. 7 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes MORE GATOR NOTES Freshman Class Ranked No. 1 The Gators four-member freshman class tops the 2018 CollegeGymFans.com rankings. In the last nine years, Florida s freshmen class ranked No. 1 six times and No. 2 twice. Three have been part of U.S. National Teams. Three-time U.S. Senior Team member Alyssa Baumann earned gold with the 2014 U.S. Senior National Team at the World Championships. Megan Skaggs joined Baumann on the U.S. Senior National Team. She earned gold with the 2015 U.S. Pan American Games team. Jazmyn Foberg was a two-time U.S. Junior National team member. She competed with U.S. Junior teams in 2015 meets in Italy and Japan. Nicole Webb trained at the same club, Sonshine Gymnastics, as senior Rachel Slocum. Webb was second on beam and fifth on floor at the 2017 North Carolina Level 10 State Championships No. 3 for Baker She waited through the entire meet to compete as Florida s final performer of the competition. And it was worth the wait, as Baker anchored Florida s floor exercise lineup with a Third 10.0 floor mark of her career (once as a sophomore, junior and now a senior) Third floor 10.0 in the nation this season and only perfect floor mark of the weekend Season average of ranks Baker second in the nation on floor. 14th floor title of career and second of th 10.0 mark in Florida gymnastics 46-year history Baker was lost for the season after tearing her right Achilles tendon performing her second tumbling pass in the Feb. 23 dual versus Arkansas. I Got This Freshman Alyssa Baumann was next up on balance beam for the Gators. She was following a miss and was competing for the first time at the University of Georgia s Stegeman Coliseum. To add to the moment, shortly after Baumann started her routine, the sold-out Stegeman Coliseum crowd of more than 10,000 started cheering the first Bulldog 10.0 of the season just posted for Sydney Snead on floor. If she noticed the roar, it didn t appear in Baumann s routine. She was calm and steady throughout to earn the meet s winning beam mark of Before I got on beam, I knew someone had fallen, so there was a little bit of pressure there. But I knew I could hit my routine. When I was performing and someone had a perfect 10.0, I couldn t hear myself think. I ve never before performed with a crowd cheering like that. In elite, you can hear a pin drop. I just tried to tell myself it [the cheering] was for me and to stay calm and confident. The win was her second as a Gator, with the other also coming on the road at the season-opener at West Virginia. Alex McMurtry Top 10 on Career Wins Chart Senior Alex McMurtry is among Gators with 40 or more career event titles. She is seventh on the list with 64 event wins. She s been consistent in the three events primarily competed (vault, bars, beam) to accumulate her wins, as only six titles come from floor and all-around. Among those on the list with 40 or more event titles, McMurtry s 13 career all-around appearances is by far the lowest (Melanie Sinclair s 26 all-arounder performances is second-to-lowest). It was also a sellout of 9,652 when Oklahoma visited on Jan. 26. Those crowds rank No. 4 and No. 5 alltime, as the O Connell Center gymnastics capacity was larger before the venue s renovation prior to the 2017 season. So far this season, six different programs have sellouts Denver, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU and Utah. Perfection for Two Different Vaults It was her first performance of the Yurchenko double (start value: 10.0) of 2018 and Alex McMurtry was rewarded with a 10.0 her third vault 10.0 of her Gator career. In the next meet at Auburn on Feb. 2, McMurtry performed the Yurchenko full (start value: 9.95). That vault received a perfect mark of She again posted a 9.95 for the same vault versus Arkansas. 8 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes McMurtry Completes Gym Slam She stuck her dismount and the Exactech Arena crowd started a 10.0 for Alex McMurtry s balance beam routine. When the 10.0s flashed from both judge s tables, the arena erupted in celebration of McMurtry s ninth perfect mark of her career and her second 10.0 of the evening. The beam score gave McMurtry a 10.0 in each apparatus, completing the Gym Slam for perfect marks. She joins Gator Great Bridget Sloan as the two in Florida s 46-year history to record a 10.0 in each apparatus. McMurtry is the 10 th in collegiate history to complete a Gym Slam. 9 Gator Gymnastics Meet Notes Did You Know The average height for the Gators is 5-2 ½. Sierra Alexander is 5-7, the tallest Gator since the 2007 roster had a pair of 5-8 gymnasts Breanne King and Chantelle Tousek. Kennedy Baker s younger brother, Stephen, is also a gymnast. Alyssa Baumann is the third Gator to be a part of a medal-winning U.S. World Championship team. Baumann was part of the 2014 gold medal team. Mackenzie Caquatto and Bridget Sloan were both part of the 2010 U.S. team that took silver. Alicia Boren won four consecutive Junior Olympic Level 10 all-around titles (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012). Maegan Chant got her dog Charlie when she was 12. He dad said if she finished in the top three in the 2010 Elite Canada all-around, she could get a dog. She took second. Amanda Cheney started gymnastics at age six. She was involved in dance but couldn t suppress the desire to do cartwheels. She asked her mother if she could try gymnastics. Jazmyn Foberg is the second member of the 2018 Gator team to graduate high school a year early to start college. Alex McMurtry also finished high school in three years to join the 2015 Gator team. Rachel Gowey learned a bit more than how to become an elite gymnast while she trained at Chow s Gymnastics. Liang Chow also taught her to count to five in Chinese. Amelia Hundley s family owns a dance studio and she s taken classes for a variety of types of dance. Her favorite? Tap. Grace McLaughlin is fourth member of the current Gator team who was part of a U.S. s gold medal Pan American Games Team. McLaughlin was on 2011 team, Gowey and Skaggs on 2015 and Hundley on 2014 and 2015 teams. Alex McMurtry is the fifth Gator to claim both Southeastern Conference athlete and scholar-athlete honors in a single season. Others to sweep are: Camilo Villegas, 2004 men s golf; Tim Tebow, 2008 and 2008 football; Bank Vongvanij, 2011 men s golf and Patric Young, 2014 men s basketball (defensive player of year). Megan Skaggs is one of three Gators on the 2015 Pan American Games gold medal team. Rachel Gowey and Amelia Hundley also were on that team. Rachel Slocum also trained as an ice skater until age 9 when she had to pick which sport to pursue. Gymnastics won because she loves flipping and magically landing on her feet. Nicole Webb also was a competitive swimmer until age 13. Her best events were breaststroke and backstroke. All-Around Consistent Junior All-American Alicia Boren has been an all-around competitor since Meet 2 of her freshman season. She now competed as an all-arounder in 36 consecutive meets. All but four of those performances totaled or better. This season, Boren has won six all-around titles, including the last five. She set the team s high of with her win versus Alabama. Gators Collect SEC Weekly Honors Southeastern Conference weekly honors went to five different Gators so far in Week 1: Jazmyn Foberg: SEC Freshman of Week Runner-up in the season opener all-around at in Florida s win last Friday at West Virginia. That total is the second highest among the nation s freshmen and highest among SEC freshmen so far in Her total is the fifthhighest ever for a Gator freshman in a season opener. Week 4: Alex McMurtry: SEC Gymnast of Week Alyssa Baumann: SEC Freshman of Week A pair of 10.0s (vault, beam) moved McMurtry to the top of Florida s career 10.0 list at nine. The perfect mark on beam completed a Gym Slam a perfect mark on each apparatus. Also became the first Gator to earn a pair of 10.0s in a single meet. Baumann became the second Gator freshman (Bridget Sloan first in 2013) to post a near-perfect on beam. Her on floor as UF s final performer of the meet moved Florida ahead of Oklahoma for the first time of the competition.
