1 Get To Know Our Jr. Cobras Coaches Ms. Laurel Adolphe, BA, BEd, MEd - DIRECTOR/BASKETBALL Ms. Adolphe is a NCCP Level III Nationally Certified Basketball Coach as well as a Canadian Certified Athletic Administrator. She has a long and varied basketball coaching background. In addition to coaching in high level High school programs in British Columbia and Alberta, she has spent time coaching in the ACAC at SAIT, coaching many British Columbia and Alberta Provincial teams and was heavily involved in the Canada Basketball Development program. Ms. Adolphe's biggest and proudest coaching success has been the 13-year development of the Sr. Varsity Girls Basketball Program at Rundle College where she has seen her team achieve back to back Provincial Championships, 2014 and Ms. Adolphe is passionate about the development of the Jr. Cobras Athletic Programs. Emily Buchanan, Class of VOLLEYBALL Emily attended Rundle College from Grade 4 until graduating in While in high school she was apart of many Cobra teams. Emily ran cross country and track, played JV and SV Volleyball, and was one of the few female members of the wrestling team. Since graduation, Emily has completed a Bachelor of Science in BioPsychology at the University of Victoria, and will be attending medical school at the University of Calgary in July Emily had the pleasure of coaching the grade 7 girls volleyball team with her sister, Meg, this fall. She is thrilled to be able to further her coaching skills with the Grade 1-3 Boys this winter. Go Jr. Cobras! Meg Buchanan, Class of VOLLEYBALL Meg is a 2015 Alumna who played on a number of sports teams throughout her academic career at Rundle College, including senior varsity girls basketball, senior varsity volleyball, soccer, badminton, cross country, and track and field. In addition to being involved in school sports, Meg also played on a club volleyball team in Calgary, and enjoyed furthering her skills as a player and as a leader on a team. After completing two years of post secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan in the Physiology and Pharmacology program, Meg chose to move back to Calgary to complete a biology degree with a minor in kinesiology at Ambrose University. She also enjoys playing soccer and futsal for the Ambrose Lions. Being back home, Meg is super excited to help as a coach for the Jr. Cobras volleyball program and share her love of sport with the younger athletes.
2 Ms. Meghan Calvert, BEd - VOLLEYBALL Ms. Calvert has been involved in a variety of sports throughout her life including show jumping, volleyball, badminton, and basketball. It was her passion and commitment to physical activity and wellness that led to her achieving a bachelor of Physical Education at the University of Victoria. In addition to playing volleyball for the past 13 years, her recent experience has been coaching U13 school and club volleyball; winning 4th place in Alberta for the 2016 club season. Ms. Calvert is passionate in the development of young athletes by encouraging them to explore a variety of sports and activities. She is devoted to facilitating a fun and engaging environment that is centered on team building and developing well-rounded athletes both on and off the court. Ms. Taryn Cossar, BPE, BEd - VOLLEYBALL Ms. Cossar has been actively involved in volleyball for over 25 years. During her time in the sport, she learned first as a player and then in the roles as both head and assistant coach with senior high, junior high, and club teams. Ms. Cossar has had much success with developing her coaching philosophy and her playing experience has helped numerous athletes grow to their potential. She has an enthusiastic approach to coaching and hopes all athletes continue to play because they simply love the game. Mr. Neil Domstad, BPE, BEd - WRESTLING Mr. Domstad competed for the University of Calgary and as a 5-time National Champion also had the opportunity to compete as part of the National Team. Mr. Domstad has had the good fortune to continue his passion for wrestling in the form of coaching for the last 28 years at all age levels within the school system, and the University and Club program level. Mr. Domstad is in his 22nd year coaching the Jr. High Wrestling Team and 13th year coaching the Sr. High Team. In those 12 years the Sr. High girls team has won 4 Provincial Championships and the Sr. High boys team 7 Provincial Championships. Mr. Domstad, along with all the coaches in the wrestling program, believes that building character together with the resiliency, determination and respect one learns about themselves and others in sport are the essential tangible takeaways for students to use in every aspect of their lives.
3 Mr. Mike Duncalfe - BASKETBALL Mike Duncalfe is thrilled to be working with Jr. Cobras this year. He grew up playing basketball, volleyball, and baseball but loves just about every sport he s had a chance to play. He s previously helped coach at Ambrose University, and Olds Koinonia Christian School, and this year had the privilege of coaching the Rundle Cobras Grade 9 girls volleyball team, and is now coaching the Grade 7 girls basketball team. Mike and his wife Stacy recently moved to Calgary after spending 6 years in Medicine Hat, and he now works in the Rundle Society office. In his spare time you might find him out watching a Flames game, eating ice cream or Thai food, or longboarding with Stacy on a sunny day. He s very excited to to be part of the Jr. Cobras program and to share his knowledge with our young athletes. Graham Fader - RUGBY/WRESTLING Graham Fader graduated from Rundle College in He wrestled for the Cobras throughout senior high school, winning team MVP in 2013 and 2015, named co-capitan in 2015 and won athlete of the year that same year. Graham is continuing his wrestling career at Simon Fraser University (NCAA DII) while he pursues a degree in electronics engineering. In addition to wrestling at Rundle, Graham also played on the football and rugby teams and participated in track, while playing baseball outside of school. Graham is very excited to help with the Jr. Cobras wrestling program to help develop the next generation of wrestlers for Rundle s storied program. Brittney Giacchetta, BA - WRESTLING Brittney graduated from Rundle College in She attended University of Alberta where she completed her Bachelor of Arts in psychology as well as wrestled for part of her time there. She is currently completing a Masters of Counselling at City University of Seattle.
4 Mr. Ben Gibson, B Kin, BEd - BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL Mr. Gibson has coached for over 15 years; coaching basketball in Lethbridge and New Zealand before arriving at Rundle College. He has been at Rundle College for ten years and in that time has coached grade 9 boys volleyball, grade 9 girls basketball, SV boys basketball and junior high track and field. His teams have won multiple league and zone championships as well as a silver medal at the SV boys basketball provincials in 2016/17. Mr. Gibson believes that enjoying the game and building strong character are the most important parts of youth athletics. Mr. Gibson is devoted to helping young athletes reach their potential both on and off the court. Jillian Goodhart, Class of 2011, BA - BASKETBALL Jillian played Basketball on Rundle College teams for all six of her years at the school; including three years on the Varsity Girl s team coached by Ms. Adolphe. She also brings six years of experience playing competitive club basketball to our program. Jillian is passionate about sport and about fostering a love for the game of basketball in young players. Last year, she was the Head Coach of a Calwest Midget Girl s basketball team, and was the Assistant Coach to Ms. Adolphe for the Varsity Girl s program at the College. This will be her second year assisting with the Jr. Cobra s Basketball program, as well as her second year coaching at within the High School Program. Mrs. Kassie Green, BA, BEd - BASKETBALL Ms. Kassie Green is a NCCP Level II Certified Basketball Coach. She has been coaching girls basketball for 12 years and has been playing basketball for over 25 years. She spent 5 years coaching in our Sr. High program as JV Girls head coach and SV girls assistant coach. This past year, Kassie took on the role of head coach of our grade 9 girls basketball team and will continue with that program in the years to come. Kassie is a promoter of multi-sport athletes and believes that kids learn to love the game when they are given the opportunity to play.
5 Leigh Hauck, Class of BASKETBALL/RUGBY Leigh Hauck is a 2017 Rundle College Graduate who is currently attending the University of Calgary studying business with a focus in Finance. He is an extremely passionate archer, bowhunter and conservationist. He coaches archery for both adults and children and is a practicing bow technician. He participates in the AFL Canada playing Australian Rules Football for the Calgary Kangaroos, volunteers with the AusKick youth Australian Football program of Calgary and played Rugby for both Rundle College and the Calgary Mavericks. He will be working with the Jr. Cobras Rugby program for his second year. Ms. Charity Helman, BA, BEd, Event Coordinator EdTechTeam Canada - VOLLEYBALL Ms. Helman is a former Rundle teacher and volleyball coach. In her ten years with Rundle, Ms. Helman coached grade 7, 8 and 9 volleyball. With the help of several mentors and amazing assistant coaches, Ms. Helman captured 7 CISAA League Championships with her teams, along with one second place finish, and one third place finish. She loves the game and the camaraderie that are a part of team sport. It is a pleasure for Ms. Helman to be able to return and help out in the Junior Cobras program to instill the love for the game of volleyball in our young elementary children. Mr. Brent Hargreaves, BKin, BEd - FOOTBALL/RUGBY Mr. Hargreaves is an NCCP Level II Nationally Certified Football Coach. He played football for the University of Calgary from as a quarterback and a receiver. He was named an Academic All Canadian in two of those five years. Mr. Hargreaves has coached at Rundle for the last 9 years. In those nine years, the team has won two Provincial Championships, three Big Sky League Championships and two Big Rock Football Conference Championships. Mr. Hargreaves is passionate about the growth and development of young athletes when it comes to sport specific skills and life skills in general.
6 Sarah Hougen, Class of BASKETBALL Sarah recently graduated from Dalhousie University this past spring with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and social anthropology, and a minor in psychology. While she took a break from competitive sports in university, she was very active in a variety of them throughout junior and senior high, participating in volleyball, badminton, and soccer - but was most passionate about basketball. Sarah played community ball for Calwest for six years and was a part of both the Rundle JV and SV teams during her time in high school. In Sarah s grade 12 year, she helped lead her team to a provincial championship, a first for the Rundle basketball program. This will be her first year with the Jr. Cobras program and she is excited to share her passion for sports! Mr. Atilla Kasap, BA, MScEd - WRESTLING Mr. Kasap wrestled for 10 years out the Hamilton Wrestling Club. In 2005, wrestling varsity with McMaster University, they won the National Dual Meet Championships. Mr. Kasap went on to compete at the Olympic Trials in He then coached varsity athletes for a couple years after retiring from competition, helping several athletes win gold at the University National Championships. In 2015, Mr. Kasap joined the Rundle College Wrestling program. Maddy Kehler, Class of VOLLEYBALL Maddy played on the girl s volleyball team, soccer, track & field and golf teams throughout her academic career at Rundle College. In high-school, she was a co-captain of her volleyball team and was a part of winning two divisional championships with her volleyball and soccer teams. She served alongside Ms. Adolphe as the team manager of the Senior Girls Basketball Team for the two years they brought home provincial championship banners. Outside of school, Maddy played competitive club soccer. Maddy has always been an enthusiast for sport and loves the development, positive mental attitude, training, and teamwork that come along with them! Maddy is currently in her 4th year of her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree at Ambrose University. Her love for sports has continued into post-secondary as she plays Varsity Soccer and Futsal at Ambrose and serves on their Athletic Leadership Team. Maddy is thrilled to be back at Rundle to assist with coaching the Jr. Cobras Volleyball program and to spend her afternoons fostering a love for sport in little kiddos!
7 Daniel Krayzel, Class of WRESTLING Daniel wrestled in Jr. and Sr. High and won second place in the city championship. Daniel is currently in his third year of mechanical engineering at the University of Calgary. For Daniel, wrestling laid the foundation for both physical and mental skills he uses today. He is excited to share these fundamentals with our Jr. Cobras and help develop their enjoyment of the sport. Lauren Kruger, Class of WRESTLING Lauren was a member of the wrestling team at Rundle for 6 years. She is now going to the University of Calgary pursuing a Bachelor of Music, and is currently a member of Calgary s competitive quidditch team. Lauren is interested in coaching the Junior Cobras because she d like to revisit her wrestling roots and is looking for a new challenge. Julie Lockwood, Class of VOLLEYBALL Julie began Rundle in Grade 7, where she was introduced to volleyball and played all through her Junior and Senior High years. She continued on to Queen s University in Kingston, ON, to study engineering, where she was a member of the Varsity Women s Volleyball Team for 3 years. Following graduation, she returned to Calgary, began her career, and has continued playing in two competitive leagues here in the city. She has experience in assistant coaching a U17 Boys Club Volleyball Team, being a guest coach for a U14 Girls Club Volleyball Team, in addition to private lessons.
8 Mr. Jonathan Long, BEd - BASKETBALL/RUGBY Mr. Long has completed the NCI National Coaching Diploma. He is a World Rugby Coach Trainer and is a NCCP Master Learning Facilitator. He took part in World Rugby s Talent Identification program and has experience Head Coaching the Canadian Women s rugby team from he also has experience in the sevens game guest coaching for the national men s program providing the video analysis at the 2012 Las Vegas irb international sevens tournament. He is a keen enthusiast of Basketball both playing and working with the Junior Varsity team the past 2 seasons. He is currently working with National Age grade rugby coaches developing all aspects of coach development. Having young students experience a multitude of sports is a passion. Rayff McMahon, Class of BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL/BADMINTON/RUGBY Rayff was a multi-sport athlete at Rundle College, being successful in all of his athletic pursuits. In his Grade 12 year, Rayff was part of the ASAA Silver Medalist Volleyball team as well as a significant member of the ASAA Silver Medalist Basketball team. Rayff now attends the University of Calgary and is studying business. With Basketball as his passion, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Jr. Cobras basketball program. Mrs. Anna Miller BA, BEd - BASKETBALL Mrs. Miller has built athletics and coaching into her career and life at many levels. In addition to assistant coaching Gr. 6 girls basketball, most of her experience lies in teaching Phys. Ed at St. Michaels University School in Victoria, BC. Mrs. Miller believes that finding a love of sport and fitness in any activity provides a beautiful opportunity for personal development and allows for the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle that is so important for today s young children. She is devoted to creating an engaging, challenging, and fun environment for kids to learn and grow on and off the court.
9 Mr. Ryan Mitchell, BKin, BEd - BASKETBALL Mr. Mitchell grew up competing in numerous sports including hockey, baseball, basketball, volleyball, badminton and track. Based on his experiences he is a passionate supporter of youth participating in multiple sports and not specializing at an early age. Mr. Mitchell was an ACAC Collegiate All-Star in basketball. While teaching in Lloydminster he was an assistant coach for the Lakeland College Men s Basketball team from He has been the head coach for the Sr. Varsity Boys Basketball team since Last year the Rundle Boys Basketball team finished second in the province. It is the highest any Sr. Varsity Boys Basketball team has ever finished at Rundle College. He is enthusiastic about being a part of the numerous opportunities Jr. Cobras provides youth in sports. Kathleen Mitchell, Class of BASKETBALL Kathleen is a recent graduate from Queen s University with a degree in Psychology and Sociology. During her six years at Rundle, Kathleen was involved in a variety of sports including volleyball, rugby, and wrestling, with a heavy focus on basketball. She was a member of the Senior Varsity Girls basketball team for all three years of high school and was proud to be a part of the first Senior Girls team to represent Rundle at Provincials. Kathleen also played community basketball for Red Jackets. This will be Kathleen s first year with the Jr. Cobras Program. Jordan Ng, Class of VOLLEYBALL Jordan Ng attended Rundle College from Over the years at Rundle she was involved in many sports, specifically volleyball. Jordan fell in love with the sport on the first day of tryouts in 7th grade. Since then, she played for the Cobras every year and was on the senior varsity team 2 years in a row. Outside of school, Jordan played on club teams such as 403's, Canuck Ignite, and Mount Royal Cougars. In addition to playing on both Team Alberta U16 and U18 teams, after graduation, Jordan went on to University in Washington State where she played Libero. This is Jordan s first coaching experience with the Jr. Cobras and she looks forward to meeting all of the campers and helping them develop, not only technical skills, but teamwork and sportsmanship.
10 Joelle Petersen, Class of BASKETBALL Joelle is a Rundle College Graduate who was involved in the girls basketball program for 6 years, 3 of which were spent playing for Ms. Adolphe on the Senior Varsity team. Joelle played 3 years of competitive club basketball where she competed in tournaments around the United States, and across Canada. She has also involved herself in helping coach at 3 different basketball associations. Joelle looks forward to spread her love for basketball amongst younger players in her second year assisting with the Jr. Cobras Basketball program. Ms. Jillian Robinson, BPE, BEd - BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL/RUGBY Whether participating, coaching or teaching students from Kindergarten to grade 12 physical education, Ms. Robinson has always been involved in a variety of sports. Prior to joining Rundle College in 2014, she taught and coached overseas for 10 years. Her experience has primarily been in junior/senior high basketball, volleyball, netball, swimming and track and field. Ms. Robinson is passionate in the development of young athletes and believes that learning to play on a team develops lifelong skills, friendships and a love of sport. Last year, she was honored to help with the development of the Rundle College Senior/Junior High Girls Rugby team and the Jr. Cobras, Rookie Rugby Program. Morgan Saunders, Class of BASKETBALL/RUGBY/SOCCER Morgan Saunders is a former high level club soccer and high school basketball player. She played on the Rundle College basketball team from grade 7 to her graduation in 2015, during which the team achieved back to back Provincial titles; and her soccer career was spent playing with Foothills FC, where her team achieved 4th place in U14 Nationals and consistently went to tier 1 provincials each year placing in the top 3. In university, Morgan still pursues athletics in the form of division 1 women s soccer, basketball, and all around sporting events for fun. Morgan is currently studying Policy Studies at Mount Royal University, but is aiming to get into and complete a combined degree at the University of Calgary in Psychology, Community Rehabilitation, and Disability Studies. This will be her first year with the Jr. Cobras program.
11 Matthew Sirianni, Class of BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL/RUGBY Matthew is a graduate of the 2017 class, and played sports avidly through his Rundle College career. In high-school he played for the Junior Varsity Basketball and Volleyball teams while also playing on the Football team and captaining the Senior Varsity Rugby team in his senior year. Currently he is attending the University of Calgary studying political science which he hopes to take into Law. Matthew is a U18 rugby provincial champion with the Canucks as well as playing for the Calgary Mavericks. He is also currently playing for the U of C rugby team. Mr. Gary Sylven, BA, BEd, MA - WRESTLING Coach Gary Sylven s wrestling didn t start with wrestling - it was with judo! The martial art of judo ~ which Coach Sylven calls wrestling with pajamas ~ involves throwing your opponents to the ground and pinning them there. Coach Sylven started judo when he was 9-years-old and by the time he started wrestling in high school, he already had a lot of experience to draw from. Wrestling in high school followed Coach Sylven all the way to Rundle, as his high school wrestling teammate was Mr. Domstad and their coach was Mr. Hauk! The pinnacle of Coach Sylven s competitive career came in high school when he won both the national judo championships along with silver and bronze medals at the national wrestling championships, and he represented Canada in international wrestling and judo tournaments. Although Coach Sylven retired from competition after university, he holds NCCP Level 2 coaching certification in both sports, helps to coach the College and Academy wrestling programs, and participates in judo at Ishi Yama Judo club as a third-degree black belt. Ms. Cathleen Timlick - BEd - Basketball Ms. Timlick began her coaching career during as an assistant coach for Jr. High Girls basketball. During her first year at Rundle Academy, Ms. Timlick coached the Senior High Girls basketball team. Ms. Timlick wants to be a part of the Jr. Cobras program because she believes it is such a great opportunity for the younger grades to experience the benefits of team sports!
