(A MCGUIRE CENTER) A near record group of campers hit the courts across campus Monday morning as the final week of the 2011 season opened at the Al McGuire Center. Divisional team play began right away as players were evaluated based on skill level and ability. Each division will crown a regular season and tournament champion during the legendary Championship Friday festivities. Monday s campers of the day were CADE HONKAMP (Greece), YATT HEN- NESSY (Kentucky), CAUM JOUBERT (Syracuse) and MICHAE XU (Miami). Fans surely recognize Joubert s name, the brother of camp hall of famer Heath, who drained the first ever Buzzer Beater years ago. CONNOR GISSA (Venezuela) and GRANT PFISTER (Richmond) claimed the week s opening free throw titles. COACH S CIPBOARD: There is a saying in basketball that defense wins championships and as a result Monday s instructionals focused on that end of the court. The teaching emphasis was on live ball defense, focusing on the concept of closing out on a shooter. This process includes discouraging the shot, taking away quick post entry and guarding the dribble. Two of the teaching points at MU are showing hands and having a big chest when guarding the dribble. Tuesday: Pizza, Pasta, PB&J, Fruit and more. Prices per item range from $1-3.

(A MCGUIRE CENTER) The confidence level of the campers who call Village home was at such a high level Tuesday afternoon, one member of the group actually declared the team s Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C.) win before the competition had even concluded. The Olympians quickly posted two of the necessary three victories needed to claim the title, prompting a bold move by youngster Charlie evin. evin, perhaps sensing the emotional weakness of his competitors, told a member of the Former Golden Eagles that the contest was over and his statement was quickly confirmed thanks to the performance of his fellow teammates. ednesday s G.E.C. will more than likely include a tremendous amount of tension, as pride by all competitors is put on the line one more time. Campers of the day were PATRICK SAXTON (Venezuela), MOSES TABAK (Butler), BOBBY JOEHNK (Georgetown) and JAMES EIGHT (Boston). The free throw champions were CHARIE EVIN (Senegal) and JAMES RAGEN (Boston). COACH S CIPBOARD: Tuesday s lessons continued to focus on defense, including instructionals on how to establish and hold position. The components of the proper athletic stance were demonstrated, both offensively and defensively. ednesday: Pizza, Pasta, PB&J, Fruit, Chips and more. Prices per item range from $1-3.

(A MCGUIRE CENTER) Following an impressive victory in Tuesday s Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C), the Olympians were taught an invaluable lesson by the experienced and cagey Former Golden Eagles (F.G.E.). ith the confidence level running at a near criminal level, the F.G.E. s provided a dagger named humility when Joe Chapman s 3 pointer sealed the G.E.C. victory on ednesday. Chapman s squad rallied from down 2 1 and snatched the win from the Olympians, leaving the youngsters looking to the scoreboard in disbelief. Tuesday s antics by the junior division weren t soon forgotten an the intensity in the Al was a direct result of the shenanigans. ednesday s free throw champions were CADE HONKAMP (Greece) and GRAHAM SCHROEDER (Miami). The campers of the day were MATT MEYER (Greece), KEEGAN CRAPITTO (UCA), PATRICK ODES (St. John s) and NICK EAS (Dallas). COACHES CIPBOARD: Defensively, ednesday s instructional focused on teaching the basics of helpside defense and the importance of closing the gap on a player attacking the rim. Offensively, the discussion focused on various ways to get open without the benefit of a screen. Strength coach Todd Smith also offered some pearls of wisdom on how to build total body strength. photos on MarquetteImages.com. Action photos will be taken each day of camp in the Al arena. There is a large assortment of photo printing options, including print 12 sizes to choose from with four different types of finishes along with a high resolution digital download. The camp photo galleries are protected (musummer11) for camper's parents and guardians only. CAMP STORE: Check out the official Camp Store on the main concourse level of the Al McGuire Center all week long. Food, drinks and Marquette gear will be available all week long. The Camp Combo returns in 2011 and features a T Shirt/Shorts for $30 or headband/wristband duo for $12.

(A MCGUIRE CENTER) ith Championship Friday just around the corner, the Former Golden Eagles (F.G.E) were able to claim the first title of the week on Thursday with an impressive and improbable performance in the Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C.). Allowed to select who they perceived to be the worst shooter among the F.G.E. s, the Olympians crunched the numbers and picked Ousmane Barro. hile Barro did conclude his MU career an impressive 58.1 percent from the floor, he didn t even attempt a single 3 pointer in his 127 game career. ith the Olympians and F.G.E. s tied at two games each and with both squads at four baskets in the deciding matchup, Barro calmly drained what is believed to be his first 3 pointer ever outside the borders of his native Senegal. The basket proved to be a spark that lit a powder keg of emotion as pandemonium engulfed the Al. Thursday s campers of the day were JASON THOMPSON (USA), JOHN AYER (Butler), VINNY STO (Providence) and PETER FROMMET (Boston). The free throw champions were JONNY ADE (Greece) and RYAN DUFFEY (Boston). COACHES CIPBOARD: Thursday s schedule included a defensive positioning drill and Todd Smith demonstrated more techniques in building body strength without equipment. Offensively, campers focused on utilizing screens (curl, fade, reject), also factoring in the reaction of the actual screener. illiams will now be available for purchase online along with all action and group photos on MarquetteImages.com. Action photos will be taken each day of camp in the Al arena. There is a large assortment of photo printing options, including print 12 sizes to choose from with four different types of finishes along with a high resolution digital download.
