(A MCGUIRE CENTER) The Session II campers set a high standard for the rest of the week with an impressive opening day that included several standout performances on the court. HAYDEN PRUCHA (Maryland) got the ball rolling by knocking down a shot in overtime to propel his squad to victory. Prucha s heroics were only possible because of a missed free throw by the opponent, further backing up the importance of the game s fundamentals. CARTER ES (USA) found nothing but net on a short baseline jumper to cap the day. Team USA cleverly drew the defense to the perimeter before dumping the ball down to ells for a wide open shot. Monday s free throw champions were JOSH TERRIAN (Venezuela) and KYE HANSON (St. John s), who automatically earned spots in Friday s championship event. Camper of the day awards went to OUIS MAIER (Senegal), OEN MEYER (Texas), I KOCH (Georgetown) and JEFFREY MEVIN (Dallas). (A MCGUIRE CENTER) There are a number teaching moments throughout the week of a Marquette basketball camp, always crossing the street at the stoplights for example, and Tuesday produced yet another valuable life lesson for the participants. Cheaters never win. This week s first installment of the Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C.) became shrouded in controversy as rumors occurred as quickly as a Dwight Buycks turnover regarding a match fixing scandal similar to the one currently destroying the ancient sport of Sumo. Camp administrators were unavailable for comment when asked about the fact that the G.E.C. s roster of Former Golden Eagles (FGE) was hand picked for the victory. The teams consisted of the best Hot Shot performers of the day, which included camp veterans KENNY PIACSEK and QUINTON HOOKER. The Olympians, Big Camp (/BIG EAST/) and FGE s all claimed two victories, forcing a deciding game seven. ith the Big Camp and FGE s tied at four baskets each and needing just one more to win, NICK POUROS drained a basket right in front of sharpshooter Dan Fitzgerald, who quickly grabbed an injured wrist as the reason for the loss. The emotional roller coaster, which included the damaging allegations, ended as all of the G.E.C. losers (especially the FGE s) were forced to complete fingertip hound dogs for the shame they brought to the Al. Tuesday s free throw winners were PARKER SCHAKE (Venezuela) and GEORGE BAESTEROS (Providence). The campers of the day were FINN SOMERS (Greece), J.C. TERRIAN (Arkansas), SAM THOMANN (UConn) and AARON SUSEN (Miami). (A MCGUIRE CENTER) A 24 hour time period can make a tremendous amount of difference and that was surely the case for the Session II campers, who might as well as not have shown up for ednesday s Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C.) at the Al McGuire Center. Fresh off an embarrassing defeat in Tuesday s matchup, the Former Golden Eagles (F.G.E. s) blew past the campers like many MU opponents have done to Darius Johnson Odom while on defense. Maurice Acker, Joe Chapman and Dwight Burke swept away the competition on 15 of 17 shooting from the field, which leaves Thursday s G.E.C. as the deciding match for overall bragging rights. The efforts of Team F.G.E. were some of the best ever witnessed during the fabled history of Marquette Summer Camps. e watched the reaction of the campers yesterday and weren t happy, F.G.E. team captain Joe Chapman said. It s one thing to celebrate, but act like you have been there before. One thing I do know is that they won t be celebrating tonight. In game action, the day s action was highlighted by TOUSSAINT EBB S rainbow jumper with four seconds left to give Pittsburgh a victory over Georgetown. The win knocked the Hoyas from the elite ranks of the unbeaten and now every team in camp has at least one defeat on its results. ednesday s free throw winners were XANDER DANIE (Senegal) and TONY STREET (Miami). The campers of the day were ADAM DOAN (USA), ROBERT HANDA (Arizona), UKE YAHR (est Virginia) and MATT GOGAN (Milwaukee). (A MCGUIRE CENTER) ith anticipation growing on each passing day, Championship Friday has finally arrived for the Session II campers. The importance of the event can t be overestimated and trying to describe its magnitude wouldn t do it justice, especially considering the amount of pride the staff puts into the competition. All that needs to be known,,however, is that lives will be changed forever and heroes will have the mere mention of their names echo through the rafters. The campers got a jump start on Friday s action with a historic victory in Thursday s Golden Eagle Challenge (G.E.C.). Faced with the prospect of not winning a G.E.C. title during the week for the first time in the history of history, the Olympians reached deep within their souls to post an unbelievable win. Matched up against their nemesis, the Former Golden Eagles (F.G.E.), the youngsters quickly fell behind 2 0 to the trio of Chris Grimm, Ousmane Barro and Dwight Burke. Emotions were running high at this point and the situation wasn t helped by the constant motivating (or taunting) being conducted by certain senior members of the camp staff. Against all odds, the Olympians (EAGAN REAMS, EM- METT OE, CARTER ES) knotted the score at 2 2 to force a deciding game five. ith each team in possession of four baskets in the final stanza, the fundamentally sound Olympians banked in the game winner for the miracle finish. The celebration that followed would make the classy citizens of Vancouver, whose character was revealed following the Canucks Stanly Cub playoff loss, reconsider their approach several weeks ago. Thursday s free throw winners were NICK FERGE (USA) and TROY THOMPSEN (Dallas). Campers of the day were MIKEY FORSHEIM (Venezuela), IIAM SKORONSKI (Butler), JON SCHMUS (UConn) and CONNOR JACKSON (Boston).
