8 Head Coach Lynn Bria 8th Season at Stetson 21st Season Overall Charleston (WV), 1990 A three-time Atlantic Sun Conference champion as a head coach, Lynn Bria enters her eighth season at the helm of Stetson women s basketball program. Over the past five seasons Bria has turned the Hatters into a formidable force in the Atlantic Sun. She has guided the Hatters to two conference titles, two NCAA Tournament appearances, three WNIT bids, and five consecutive 20+ win seasons. In fact, Stetson is just one of two schools in the state of Florida to post as many as 117 victories since the start of the season. Stetson posted its fifth straight 20-win season in , compiling a 23-8 record overall. The Hatters won 11 non-conference games for the time ever, and the 23 wins overall tied for the third-winningest season in school history. Three Hatters were named First-Team All-Conference for the second year in a row, including the league s Defensive Player of the Year Amber Porter. In and for the third year in a row, the Hatters set a school-record for most victories in a single-season with 27. Stetson also won a school-record 16 conference games and won a school-record 16 consecutive contests during the regular season. The Hatters also earned their second-ever bid to the WNIT and the program s firstever NCAA postseason victory, a win at Miami on Mar. 20. Stetson had three players named First Team All-Conference, including A-Sun Freshman of the Year Amber Porter. The season was one for the history books as the Hatters set numerous team records for success and captured their second A-Sun title in the past three seasons. Bria helped lead the Hatters to a school-record 24 wins overall, a 12-1 record at home, a school-record 14 wins in conference play, and winning streaks of 11 straight overall and 16 in a row at home. In the A-Sun Championship game, Stetson rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat top-seeded and previously undefeated FGCU 70-64, and then earned their highestever NCAA Tournament seed (14) and an appearance in the Columbus, Ohio regional against UCLA. In , the Hatters won a school record 23 games and advanced to the postseason for the second year in a row, participating in the WNIT for the first time in school history. Three players earned All-Atlantic Sun honors including A-Sun Player of the Year and All-Tournament Team selection Victoria McGowan, who led the nation with three triple-doubles. Also honored were Second Team All-Alantic Sun forward Sasha Sims and A-Sun All- Freshman Team forward Cherisse Burris. Bria s Hatters won 20 games for the first time in 10 seasons, captured their third Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history and first time since

9 Stetson s turnaround under Bria from 6-24 to (+12.5 games) was the second largest improvement in NCAA Division I women s basketball. Honors that came to members of the team included A-Sun Tournament MVP (Victoria McGowan), A-Sun All-Tournament Team (Tierra Brown, Sasha Sims), Second Team All-Atlantic Sun (McGowan), A-Sun All-Freshman Team (Sims), A-Sun Player of the Week (Natasha Graboski) and A-Sun Newcomer of the Week (McGowan twice, Sims). Graboski went on to sign a professional contract with Alexandria of Romania s Division 1 League in the summer of In Bria led the Hatters to their seventh consecutive A-Sun tournament appearance. The highlight of the season was a December 16 victory over USC Upstate, which would go on to finish as a 20-win team, that led to forward Jessica Conner receiving A-Sun Player of the Week honors. In her first season at Stetson, Bria coached the Hatters to eight victories, including the program s first victory against an RPI Top 100 opponent (FGCU, 12/4/08) in the 10 years since online data has been kept. She also made an immediate impact on the recruiting trail as her incoming class was ranked by Michael T. White s noted scouting service All-Star Girls Report as the best in the Atlantic Sun Conference and in the top third of all NCAA Division I teams. Bria has coached women s basketball for 20 years with 14 seasons of Division I head coaching experience to her credit at UCF, Ohio University and Stetson. In addition to coaching, she has extensive classroom experience at the university level and is committed to developing young women both athletically and academically. Prior to joining the Hatters, Bria spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at top-level programs West Virginia ( ) and most recently the University 7 of Miami. Her excellent recruiting skills led to the Hurricanes signing a Top 25 incoming class according to recruiting experts at HoopGurlz.com. With WVU, Bria served as recruiting coordinator in addition to her on-court coaching duties. Her leadership helped the Mountaineers achieve one of their best seasons in school history, which featured an at-large bid to and second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament as well as the second-largest turnaround in W-L record in Big East Conference history (15-16 to overall and from 4-12 to 11-5 in Big East games). From , Bria was the head coach at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She is second all-time in career wins at Ohio and was the first coach in Bobcats history to sign a recruit that would become Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. Bria s first-year players earned MAC All-Freshman honors three consecutive years; only seven other players in the 20+ year history of the program had done that. In addition to coaching, Bria also taught a class in the Education department. For her efforts, Bria was named the TAAC Coach of the Year. In just three seasons, she ranked second in career wins at UCF and was 6-1 against the Hatters. Bria s first head coaching position came at Division II Texas Woman s University in Denton, Texas for three seasons from At the age of 24, Bria was the fourth-youngest head coach in the country when she was hired. She coached the team, coordinated fundraising and taught in the Kinesiology department in addition to serving on the NCAA Division II Tournament regional selection committee. Her Pioneer squads won more games each year of her tenure than the one previously. Her first three years out of college at the University of Charleston (W. Va.) were spent on the coaching staffs at Marshall (where she obtained her Master s degree in 1992) and Radford, where she helped lead the Highlanders to the Big South regular season and tournament titles in A standout performer for the Charleston Golden Eagles, the Class of 1990 graduate was inducted into her alma mater s Athletic Hall of Fame in She scored 1,146 points in her career, averaging 10.3 points per game and was a 75.3 percent free throw shooter over her career. A member of the Women s Basketball Coaches Association and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Bria is an avid runner who has completed three marathons. The native of Charleston, W. Va. has had her high school jersey retired by Charleston Catholic High School. 11 Assistant Coach Roy Heintz 1st Season USF, 1985 Roy Heintz begins his first season as an assistant coach at Stetson University. Heintz previously served as the head coach at UAH, leading the Chargers to a Gulf South Conference title in 2013 and two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament. He posted 69 wins overall from , including a mark over his final three seasons. In the season, Heintz guided UAH to a school-record 23 wins and the program s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Heintz was honored as the GSC Coach of the Year. In , UAH recorded its first-ever conference championship, returned to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year, and won its first-ever NCAA postseason game. Heintz mentored three-time All-American Jasmine Hammon, who was also the 2013 GSC Player of the Year and the school s all-time leading scorer. He also mentored Jordan Smith, another All-Region and All- American performer. Overall, Heintz s players garnered a total of seven all-conference selections during his tenure. Heintz also spent seven seasons as women s basketball head coach at Covenant College, a former NAIA and current NCAA Division III program in Lookout Mountain, Ga. He led the Lady Scots to 119 victories, an Appalachian Athletic Conference championship in 2009, and three separate appearances in the NAIA Top 25 poll. He also coached four NAIA or State Farm All-American selections, 13 All-AAC players, six AAC All-Freshmen honorees and six AAC All-Defensive team members, including two AAC Defensive Player of the Year honorees. At both UAH and Covenant, Heintz s teams were known for their academic excellence and service toward the community. At UAH, the women s basketball program produced more than 40 GSC Academic Honor Roll honorees, and two of Heintz s players Morgan Duncan and Natalie Kelley earned CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District recognition. At Covenant, seven Lady Scots earned NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete 9 honors and 24 garnered AAC All-Academic recognition. Heintz also served for a time at Covenant as Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director. Under his leadership as Director of Athletics, the Covenant athletic program grew from seven varsity teams to 13, with the addition of spring sport offerings in baseball, softball, men s and women s tennis and men s and women s golf. Covenant also added seven junior varsity teams over that time as well, as the number of student-athletes more than doubled from 113 to 270. Heintz served as an assistant coach at Florida State University from The Seminoles recorded a overall record during his tenure and advanced to the second round of the 2001 NCAA Tournament. Heintz also served as head girls basketball coach and Director of Athletics at The First Academy in Orlando. He led the Lady Royals to the FHSAA Class A State Championship in 1998 and Heintz attended Stetson University in the early 1980s and graduated from USF in Heintz and his wife, Sharon, have a daughter Sarah, and a son-in-law Ryan. 12 Assistant Coach Daniel Barber 2nd Season Florida, 2012 Daniel Barber begins his second season as an assistant coach at Stetson University. He is also the program s recruiting coordinator. Barber joined the Hatters from UNC Asheville where he served as an assistant coach in While there, Barber worked with Bulldog guards, enhancing their skills and development during team practice and individual workouts. He also assisted with recruiting, scouting, team academics, and team building activities. Prior to his time at UNC Asheville, Barber served as a Graduate Assistant and Team Manager at his alma mater, the University of Florida. While at UF, Barber assisted the women s basketball coaching staff with scouting reports, player development and team travel. He was also responsible for conducting individual summer workouts with the team. Barber graduated from Florida in 2012 with a Bachelor s degree in Nutrition with a specialization in Dietetics. He served as the Head Manager for women s basketball in He helped facilitate team practices, distribute equipment and assist with team travel responsibilities. 13 Assistant Coach Brittany Young 1st Season Francis Marion, 2008 Former South Carolina and Daytona State assistant Brittany Young begins her first season as an assistant coach at Stetson University. Young comes to Stetson after two seasons at Daytona State College, where she served as the program s recruiting coordinator, director of player development, director of operations, academic coordinator, and strength and conditioning liaison. During her tenure, Young helped recruit and develop seven all-conference selections, including Brittney Chambers, an NJCAA All-American and the 2015 Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year. The program also achieved its highest ranking in 2015 climbing to No. 10 in the national polls and No. 3 overall in the state of Florida. The Falcons went 23-8 on the season and claimed the Mid-Florida Conference Championship. With Young serving as academic coordinator, the Falcons posted a team GPA of 3.0 or better in three out of four semesters. In 2014, Daytona State was recognized as having the highest team GPA of all NJCAA programs in the state of Florida. Young saw eight student-athletes earn their Associate of Arts degree including six who received full scholarships to continue their basketball careers at the NCAA level. From , Young served as a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina under Olympic Gold Medalist Dawn Staley and her coaching staff. During her two seasons at South Carolina, the Gamecocks were nationally ranked and twice earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament. The team advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2012 and the second round of the tournament in While at South Carolina, Young assisted with player development, scouting, game preparation, and academic enrichment. She also worked closely with the Director of Basketball Operations and assumed many operational duties. She obtained her master s degree in Sport and Entertainment Management in Young has worked several basketball camps throughout the Southeast, serving in various capacities. Most recently she assisted with the University of South Carolina s team, elite, individual and Little Gamecock camps. She also spent three years as the camp director of the Pearl Moore Fundamental Basketball Camp, which is organized by the All-time Career Scoring Leader in Women s Basketball History and Hall of Fame Inductee, Pearl Moore. In 2011, Young was just one of 26 recipients of the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics. Prior to beginning her coaching career, Young was a CoSIDA Academic All-American and all-conference performer at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. She served as team captain all four years, twice earning team MVP honors. She is a member of the school s alldecade team and remains one of three players in FMU history to surpass 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career. Recent improvements to the DeLand campus include: $6.7 million athletics complex, including a field house and four playing fields (under construction), addition of a coffeehouse in the Carlton Union Building (completed), renovation of Nemec Hall into pet-friendly housing (completed), renewal of landscaping and walkways in the campus core (ongoing), upgrades to classrooms and the addition of more energysaving lighting (ongoing). Recent additions to the DeLand campus include: $8 million Science Center addition to the existing Sage Hall, Mary B. McMahan Hall, an addition to the School of Music s Presser Hall, Homer and Dolly Hand Art Center, Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Environmental Learning Center. Within the past 10 years: a softball training facility was added at Patricia Wilson Field, 5 fraternity houses were renovated, 6 residential halls were built, 5 of which feature apartmentstyle living. 58

61 This Is... Stetson University Faculty The DeLand campus has 262 full-time faculty members, 93 percent of whom hold Ph.D. or equivalent degrees and who teach undergraduate classes. Our student/faculty ratio is 12- to-1. Student Body Stetson s 3,084 undergraduates come from 44 states, three territories, and 52 foreign countries; 56 percent of undergraduates are female and 44 percent are male. Study Abroad Stetson University students may study in other countries for a few weeks to a full semester. Faculty-led programs take place in Austria, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, mainland China, Mexico, Russia, Scotland and Spain. Certain School of Business Administration classes and programs include an overseas component to such locations as Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Athletics Stetson is a member of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference and offers 18 intercollegiate sports: football, baseball, softball, volleyball, sand volleyball, men and women s basketball, men s and women s tennis, men s and women s golf, rowing, cross country, men s and women s soccer, and women s lacrosse. The non-scholarship football program will be part of the Pioneer Football League and played its first games in the fall of The university also has a vibrant Club Sports program featuring Aikido, baseball, basketball, croquet, dance, equestrian, men s and women s lacrosse, shooting, skydive, men s and women s soccer, softball, surf, tennis, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball. Student Life The DeLand campus alone is home to more than 112 student organizations, including service and special interest groups, student government, social fraternities and sororities, and 18 scholastic and honorary societies including Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Kappa Psi. Admission Stetson seeks students with a challenging high school curriculum. The Fall 2013 incoming freshmen class had an average 3.86 GPA and SAT averages of 577 for Math, 584 for Reading, and 562 for Writing. 59

62 Dr. Wendy Libby UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT Cornell, 1972 Seventh Year Stetson University entered a new era of leadership in July 2009 when Dr. Wendy B. Libby became the university s ninth president. With a broad career in higher education and private industry, she is building on Stetson s valuescentered heritage and tradition of academic excellence and community engagement. Libby is leading a comprehensive strategic plan focusing innovation to drive Stetson from success to significance through reinforcement of academic excellence, establishment of a Student Success program, campus infrastructure improvements and growth in recruitment and retention. She spearheaded a major landscaping and classroom improvement project and development of a DeLand Campus Plan as a guide for future growth. She has taken a progressive approach to residential life at Stetson, including introduction of petfriendly residence halls and purchase of an apartment complex for student housing. Athletics has grown dramatically under her leadership, Along with Director of Athletics Jeff Altier, Libby was integral in bringing football back to Stetson for the first time since Coming with the return of football was the construction of a $6.7 million, 25,000-square foot athletic training facility, which opened in August, Other additions include Division I women s lacrosse and sand volleyball programs, a robust Club Sports program, and a cooperative effort with the city of DeLand to renovate Spec Martin Stadium for the return of Hatter Football in Dr. Libby is active in Central Florida life and, in 2010, was appointed to the Mainstreet Community Bank Board of Directors. She is an honorary member of the Rotary Club of DeLand and is a Paul Harris Fellow. In 2011 and 2013, Dr. Libby was named to The Volusia/Flagler Business Report s list of Influential Women in Business. In 2014, she received a Women Who Mean Business Award from the Orlando Business Journal and was also named one of the Top 55 Most Influential in Volusia and Flagler counties by MyCoast Magazine. Libby served as president of Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., from , and as vice president for business affairs and chief financial officer at Furman University, Greenville, S.C., from 1995 to Her administrative and teaching experience in higher education began in 1980 at institutions including Westbrook College (now part of the University of New England), the University of Hartford, the University of Connecticut Health Center, The Ohio State University and Cornell University. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Libby earned her doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Connecticut in Her undergraduate degree, in Biology with a concentration in Genetics, is from Cornell University. She earned an MBA, with a concentration in Finance, from Cornell s Johnson Graduate School of Management. In honor of her outstanding leadership, Libby received the 2007 Athena Award from the Columbia (Mo.) Chamber of Commerce Women s Network for her support of women in realizing their full leadership potential. She and her husband, Dr. Richard M. Libby, a former college president, have two sons, Glenn and wife Ginger, and Gregg and wife Lori, four grandchildren, a greatgranddaughter, and two Labrador Retreivers. An avid reader, she enjoys cooking and entertaining. 60

63 Jeff Altier DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Stetson, th Year Jeff Altier, a 31-year veteran of the Stetson University athletic department, is in his 19th year as Director of Athletics. During his tenure, Altier has earned a reputation as an outstanding fundraiser and a leader with an eye on the future, and is noted for his active participation in the NCAA governance structure. Altier, captain of the nationally-ranked 1982 Hatter baseball team, earned both his bachelor s and master s degrees from Stetson. Upon wrapping up his Stetson baseball career, he spent two years as a player/coach developing the sport in Perth, Australia. He then returned to Stetson as an assistant coach before being promoted to Ticket Manager, Director of Athletic Promotions, and then Associate Athletic Director. In these rolls, he spearheaded the department s development efforts as well as oversaw athletic marketing and promotions, concessions and travel coordination. He was named Director of Athletics in Altier also served as Tournament Manager for the NCAA Division I Southeast First and Second Round Men s basketball tournament hosted by Stetson in 1993 and 1996 at the Orlando Arena, and as Tournament Director for the 1999, 2004, and 2014 tournament. Stetson has taken great strides in the area of gender equity under Altier, increasing scholarships, participation opportunities and staffing for women s athletics. The unprecedented success of the women s tennis, golf, soccer, basketball and softball teams in conference competition during Altier s tenure are evidence of his commitment to women s athletics. In fact, under his direction Stetson s women s and men s teams have won an impressive 15 conference championships. A hallmark of Altier s professional career was the building of Stetson s $4.5 million baseball facility, Melching Field at Conrad Park. Built in conjunction with the City of DeLand, Melching Field is regarded as one of the nation s premiere college baseball facilities. Altier then turned his attention to construction of an on-campus softball facility, which broke ground in 2002 and was ready 61 for competition in February of Patricia Wilson Field has been named Collegiate Softball Field of the Year six times. He was also instrumental in securing new state-ofthe-art field lighting for both the softball and soccer fields in Under his guidance, the Athletic Department has also seen the addition of the Wilson Athletic Center, a $ 1.5 million health and wellness facility for the use of Stetson student-athletes. Stetson athletics has continued to grow under Altier s guidance. Three new sports have recently been added - sand volleyball started competition in the spring of 2012, while women s lacrosse will start in the spring of 2013 and football will return in the fall of The program is also growing in terms of staffing and facilities, with construction complete on the $6.7 million, 25,000 square-foot Athletic Training Facility that houses offices, locker rooms, and sports medicine facilities for the football, women s lacrosse, and men s and women s soccer programs. Altier s leadership has extended beyond campus, as he has taken on Atlantic Sun Conference leadership roles, chairing many committees and serving as conference vice-president. Additionally, he has served on the National Association of College Directors of Athletics Division IAAA board of directors, the NCAA A.E.C. Cabinet and is currently a member of the prestigious NCAA Leadership Council. Locally he has served as president of the DeLand Rotary Club, vice-president of the DeLand Sports Redevelopment Association, and is a graduate of Leadership DeLand and Leadership Orlando. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Central Florida Sports Commission. Altier was honored as the West Volusia Sportsperson of the Year for In 2011 Altier was recognized by his peers in the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics as the Under Armour Southeast Region Division I Athletic Director of the Year. Altier s family includes wife, Sarah (Booker) (Stetson B.A. 82, M.Ed. 96), and children Heath (Stetson M.B.A. 09), Brianne, and Garrett.

64 The Edmunds Center The Stetson women s basketball team has called the J. Ollie Edmunds Center home since 1975, and the Hatters have won over 290 games in their 40 years on their home court. Entering the season, the Hatters were 57-6 over their last 63 games at home, including 14-1 home records in and Also home to Stetson men s basketball and volleyball teams, the Edmunds Center houses coaches and staff offices, locker rooms, an equipment room, a ticket office, and a VIP suite. 66 The Stetson University Sports Medicine staff is under the direction of the head team physician, three associate physicians, and full-time certified athletic trainers providing a full complement of services to enhance the physical performance and personal healthcare of each student-athlete. The sports medicine staff is primarily located in the athletic training room of the Wilson Athletic Center. The athletic training room is a 2,500 square-foot facility dedicated to the healthcare of all student-athletes. The sports medicine staff is focused on identifying and preventing athletic injuries through the use of a complete line of evaluation tools including a state of the art isokinetic testing and rehabilitation device. Sports Medicine The division of sports medicine utilizes a wide array of physicians, counselors, and other allied health care professionals to assist our student-athletes in all aspects of their healthcare, growth, and development. A full-time certified athletic trainer is on site for all in season practices, games, weight training, and conditioning sessions. The teams make full use of the 2,500 sq. ft. weight room located in the Wilson Athletic Center. The facility is stocked with over 9,000 pounds of free weights and selectorized equipment. Team members follow a comprehensive and individualized program designed to increase power, strength, speed, quickness, agility, jumping ability, flexibility and overall conditioning. 67 Mark Wateska DIRECTOR OF STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING Penn State, 1989 A veteran strength coach with more than 20 years of experience at the highest levels of college athletics, Wateska came to Stetson from Indiana University where he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Strength and Conditioning from While in Bloomington he designed the Hoosiers 25,000 square foot Student-Athlete Development Center and assisted in the development of the IU Excellence Academy. Prior to his promotion to Assistant AD, Wateska served at IU as Director of Athletic Performance from A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Wateska played college football at Penn State for legendary coach Joe Paterno. During his time with the Nittany Lions he competed in three bowl games including the 1986 Orange Bowl, where Penn State lost in the national title game, and the 1987 Fiesta Bowl, where the Lions defeated heavily favored Miami to win the national title. After receiving his degree in Exercise and Sport Science in 1989, he began his career as a strength coach at his alma mater, working as a graduate assistant coach from while at the same time working on his Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science. Upon completing his second degree, Wateska served as an intern with the Philadelphia Eagles in the Player Personnel Department in 1991 before moving to Boston College as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach where he worked with the Eagles nationally ranked hockey program as well as the football and men s and women s basketball teams among other sports. Wateska got his first opportunity to serve as a head strength coach in 1994 when he took over the program at the University of Maine as the Black Bears first full-time strength coach. After a short tenure in Orono, Wateska attracted the attention of Stanford University. He took over the Cardinal strength and conditioning program in January of 1995, overseeing all 33 intercollegiate sports, with direct oversight of the football, women s basketball and softball programs. He was named the Pac 10 Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year for by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He was promoted to Assistant AD for Strength and Conditioning at Stanford in Wateska and his wife, Kim, have two daughters, Julia (15) and Cameron (11). 68 The Atlantic Sun Conference For 37 years, the Atlantic Sun Conference has supported its member institutions in providing intercollegiate athletics programs committed to Building Winners for Life. The A-Sun accomplishes this mission by maintaining the highest standards in academic and athletic achievement, creating a balance between student and athlete. Adding an emphasis on sportsmanship in the competitive arena and fostering leadership opportunities through community service, the A-Sun, its member institutions and its student-athletes aim for an overall educational experience that is successful in Building Winners for Life. BUILDING The student-athletes of the A-Sun consistently achieve academic accolades at all levels... Three institutions set record highs in the A-Sun All-Academic honors. More than 68 percent of the student-athletes in the A-Sun posted a 3.0 grade point average or better, setting a new A-Sun record, including the nearly 86 percent of Lipscomb student-athletes honored as the Bisons claimed the league Academic Trophy for the second-straight year. For the sixth -consecutive year more than 60 percent of the A-Sun s teams were honored, a first for the conference. Also for the third straight year at least three institutions recorded new highs in their final percentages of student-athletes honored academically. In addition to the institutional highs, a total of nine sports also recorded percentage highs and four sports also turned in totals of at least 80 percent of the teams recording a 3.0 GPA or better. WINNERS... while performing at a high level in the competitive arena... Three men s basketball teams earned invitations to postseason play with North Florida in the NCAA, while FGCU and USC Upstate both earned spots in the CIT. For the seventhstraight season, the conference earned a postseason victory as the Spartans defeated James Madison, in the opening round. USC Upstate softball advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year, picking up a win against Fairfield. It marked the sixth consecutive time an A-Sun team has won an NCAA Regional match up. FGCU women s soccer hosted Auburn in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, marking the first time in school history an NCAA Championship event took place on campus and the first time an A-Sun women s soccer team hosted a tournament contest. For the first time in conference history two A-Sun Volleyball teams were awarded spots in the NCAA Tournament field of 64 with Jacksonville receiving the automatic bid and Lipscomb earning the league s first at large selection. FOR LIFE!...and at the same time preparing themselves to become valuable members of their community. A total of 14 Atlantic Sun Conference teams posted perfect scores for the academic year and 98 percent cleared the NCAA s standard benchmark in the NCAA s 11th annual Academic Progress Rate report. A total of 67 A-Sun teams met or exceeded the most recent four-year Division I APR of 978. Additionally, 69 A-Sun teams in the measure posted at or above their sport-specific averages. The A-Sun also had 14 teams recognized by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year APR. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. The A-Sun recorded at least 13 teams for the fourth straight year, and for the seventh consecutive year the A-Sun has had at least 10 teams earn the award. For the second consecutive year, seven Atlantic Sun Conference member institutions were named to the 2014 President s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, one with distinction. Headquartered in Macon, Ga., the A-Sun footprint reaches into seven of the top media markets in the Southeast. The A-Sun includes a blend of the most prestigious and dynamic private and public institutions in the region: Florida Gulf Coast University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Lipscomb University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of North Florida, University of South Carolina Upstate and Stetson University. 66
