10 Mike Krzyzewski Head Coach Army 69 36th season (31st at Duke) overall at Duke Winning seasons, superb graduation rates for his players and a basketball team that is as close as family are all attributes that reflect on the man who is in his 31st year as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils, Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski. Krzyzewski guided Duke to its fourth NCAA Championship in , finishing the season with a 35-5 overall record. The Blue Devils defeated Butler, 61-59, in the championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Duke captured the ACC Regular Season and Tournament Championships as well as the NIT Season Tip-Off title. In the NCAA Tournament, Duke made its 15th straight appearance and 15th overall trip to the Final Four. They have been a No. 1 or 2 seed in 12 of the last 14 seasons. The Blue Devils have posted back-to-back 30-win seasons under Coach K and have 11 overall 30-win seasons in school history. Duke has won two straight ACC Tournament championships and nine of the last 12 league titles. During the regular season, Duke has claimed in-season tournament titles in three straight seasons, winning the Maui Invitational in 2007, the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in 2008 and the NIT Season Tip-Off in From , Duke finished number one in the nation in the final Associated Press poll for a record four consecutive seasons. In , the Blue Devils reached the nation s top spot in the AP poll, marking the seventh straight year they had been number one (only UCLA s string of 12 consecutive years reaching No. 1 from was longer). Duke has won nine of the last 12 ACC Tournament championships and nine of the past 15 ACC regular season crowns. The Blue Devils have also won at least 11 ACC regular season contests in 14 of the past 15 years. In the past 12 years, four different Blue Devils Elton Brand, Shane Battier, Jason Williams (twice) and J.J. Redick (twice) have earned National Player of the Year honors. Krzyzewski s record as Duke s all-time winningest coach offers evidence of his success: 816 total wins; 461 weeks ranked in the top 25; 400 weeks ranked in the top 10; 103 weeks ranked No. 1; 11 Final Four berths in the last 25 years, including five straight appearances from ; 26 seasons with at least 20 wins; 24 upper-division finishes in the ACC in the past 26 years; 11 seasons with 30 or more wins (most by any coach all-time); 13 regular season ACC crowns and 12 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament titles, including nine of the last 12 years (a record five in succession from ). But most impressive are the four National Championships (1991, 1992, 2001 and 2010) that make Coach K one of only four coaches in NCAA history to earn three or more NCAA titles. In addition to Krzyzewski, only John Wooden (10), Adolph Rupp (4) and Bob Knight (3) have accomplished that feat. With back-to-back national championships in 1991 and 1992, Coach K became the first coach since Wooden in to earn consecutive NCAA crowns. He and the Blue Devils have been a fixture on the national basketball scene with 15 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths from and 26 in the last 27 years.
